    Online is unplayable IMO. If you're at all use to playing offline or even decent netcode like GGPO, HDR/MvC2, or SF4 you will find dealing with MK's lag painful.

    That has been my experience with him as well unfortunately. I feel like his normal attacks are so slow that anything is going to have priority over them. Even most of his specials (meaning excluding the dash) and slow and easily telegraphed.

    And Thanks krylon666, gonna go check it out.

    EDIT: How the hell are people cancelling kabal or reptile's run? I keep seeing people do what I think is that running elbow or the run/spin special but stopping. I'm, pretty sure it's not a dash under the projectiles but I didn't even know you could do that. They aren't doing another special or attack they just...stop.

    Yeah Baraka has... Well, he just has nothing going for him. Poor guy. :(

    I'm in the same boat as you, Barrabas. Loved Baraka in MK2, but he's just terrible at komboing in this one coupled with a crappy moveset.

    Man, even notching the difficulty up to meager settings is showing me how bad I suck at this. I'm beginning to wonder if I will have any shot at beating the challenge tower... I hate how it tosses you into new characters constantly.

    So for anyone fighting the 360 controller more than their opponent I just want to 2nd (3rd?...whatever it is up to) the suggestion of the madcatz controller. It's amazing when your kombatant actually does what you are telling them. The only complaint I have is the triggers are a little small.

    My saved game just corrupted and now even after deleting it I can't save. On the phone with MS now...SUPER pissed off...I had just beat story mode!

    So I just realized im in the online tournament ( i dont remember signing up, maybe i did when i threw my hat into the xbox general player ring), but your my opponent and i can play tonight if you are around. If it is too late for first round action i can forfeit the match, though.

    Any luck getting a new save started?

    Nope - it's escalated up to tech support w/ Microsoft. It's all frigged up - can only play using a non-Live profile for right now. Sorry! I think I'm the one forfeiting :)

    I thought this too, but I've graduated to Medium difficulty in the ladder mode and I even held my own against a Hard AI practice bot very well.

    I can do all my moves and the basic combos flawlessly now, and I've even developed some slightly more advanced combos based on the sort of videos that 12 year old Korean cyborgs are posting on youtube. I think my best is like a 40% combo with an X-Ray finish. It's quite rad.

    Right now I'm working on defense and throws and it's helping tremedously on higher difficulties.

    So, yeah, pick a character you love and stick to it. If I can improve any of you motherfuckers can.

    Are people expected to be able to do Kung Lao's "Chained Fist" with their thumb? I can do it on the ps3 controller by bringing my index finger and middle finger up and press them rapidly, but no way my thumb can move that fast.

    Maybe when the patch rolls out we'll be able to skip the story mode cutscenes.

    It's 2011, folks, why the fuck can't I skip the terrible pre-rendered garbage?

    I propose a new system.

    FK = Hamster
    BK = Dog
    FP = Cat
    BP = Horse
    Up = Push
    Down = Pull
    Left = Yank
    Right = Shove

    So the first combo from the earlier video is now:

    Yank Horse, Horse + Cat, Yank then Push Hamster.

    I like this system! Therefor I've redone all the fatalities and babalities in this format.
    I will edit my other posts that has numbers (1 2) and letters (FK BK) to be unified in this system instead.

    I really want this game but with all the talk of it being unplayable on the 360 makes me a bit vary. A few pages back someone was saying that even the fightpad is bad for the game for some reason.

    I've been using this:

    a20791812c5ff30b4d86ca_m.JPG

    (Except the 360 version obviously)

    And it's pretty swell. Got my buttons laid out in a good way, with my thumb covering block and throw should the need arise. I was going to map the block button to left bumper, but then realised that made pulling off Enhanced moves such a pain in the arse I just gave up. Better than the standard 360 controller by miles and I don't have the money/practice to use a stick.

    Edit: Someone help me pick an alt out of the following (Main: Sektor, natch):

    Mileena, Noob Saibot, Smoke, Kano, Stryker, Shang Tsung, Kabal, Quan Chi, Cyber-Sub.

    I can do pretty well with regards to kombos with these folks, with the possible exception of Stryker. I'll let you guys help form my opinion.

    So, in the UK it doesn't feel like alternative 360 controllers are as easy to find. I would really like to try something different as I really do hate the standard 360 d-pad. It feels like it is lower than it should be, and not at the correct angle, causing me to jump when I want to press back. Another thing that is important to me is having the headset jack in it, as when I play MK online with my friends I want to be able to talk to them.

    What's my best bet?

    Secondly - If there are any drop outs or complications in the tournament leading to their being another gap in the ranks anywhere, I would (somewhat cheekily) like to volunteer to fill it. I know I had to drop out in the first round, but my life has found stability again and I really would, genuinely like to get involved! I didn't drop out lightly the first time.

    I tried a bunch of button combinations that didn't work. Maybe I missed the particular two that work. If it is actually possible, why not make Start or Select/Back skip? Or at least bring up a "are you sure you want to skip this cutscene?" dialog? Hiding it benefits nobody.

    Amazon.co.uk has the fightpads for pretty cheap. I will try to get them from them personally.

    Do you mean these?

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mad-Catz-Steet-Fighter-FightPad/dp/B002MZZLOQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1304423411&sr=8-4

    Are they more accurate than the 360 D-pad? It certainly looks like it's in a better place, for starters.

    Might take some getting used to what with the RB and RT buttons being on the face rather than at the back. And does it have the normal headset jack?

    [EDIT] And I just realised, that RT button on the right of the face is going to be block. ... I'm not sure about that. I like having block at my disposal under my right index finger without moving my thumb off the face buttons. Anyone got any experience with this Fightpad and MK?

    Yes, yes, heartily recommend that product to you, Bacon-BuTTy. It's pretty great. Larger buttons for easier inputting, and the joypad is damn good. It also does indeed have a headset jack at the bottom. My only complaint is the somewhat sketchy start/back buttons but otherwise it's a solid product.

    As for the RT button on the face being block, you could always remap it to either LB or LT, both of which are on the left/right shoulders respectively.

    Maybe when the patch rolls out we'll be able to skip the story mode cutscenes.

    It's 2011, folks, why the fuck can't I skip the terrible pre-rendered garbage?

    Also on the 2011 kick, why is there pre-rendered video and why is it terrible quality? The in-engine clips looks great and it's the same damn shit. Why isn't it all in-engine?

    The game is loading the fights during the cutscenes

    That's why there are no loading screens!

    Terrible excuse! It should allow you to skip as soon as the fight's done loading... The 10 minutes of cutscenes aren't necessary! Especially when you watch the movie, get into the fight, then quit... Then go back in later. You have to watch it again.

    I think someone mentioned earlier in the thread that you can only skip the cinematics when you've finished the story mode once.

    I've been using this:
    Edit: Someone help me pick an alt out of the following (Main: Sektor, natch):

    Mileena, Noob Saibot, Smoke, Kano, Stryker, Shang Tsung, Kabal, Quan Chi, Cyber-Sub.

    I can do pretty well with regards to kombos with these folks, with the possible exception of Stryker. I'll let you guys help form my opinion.

    Well, I guess that depends if you want someone who plays kinda like Sektor can (or at least has some similarities) or someone who plays totally different. Mileena, Smoke, and Quan Chi strike me as among the easiest to transition into from Sektor.

    That said my opinion may not amount for much in that regard, since I main Kitana but haven't really dedicated anyone specifically as an alt despite playing around with a decent number of the cast. One option could be to take Sektor with the characters you're interested with into tag practice and see if you notice any particular interactions between them you like.

    Right, I'm more or less looking for a "totally different" rather than an easy transition. I like Sektor, I like how he plays, his moves, his kombos. But I like ice cream, and if I eat too much ice cream I get sick of it. The bonus of 5 of those listed characters is a teleport move.

    The tag practice is a good idea, I might give that a whirl later this afternoon. :)

    And Kitana? Shiiiiiit, her damage potential is scary stuff. D:

    I'd recommend Kano. Plays nothing like Sektor and he's a fucking beast in this game. Stryker is also surprisingly good and fun.

    I would like to second this.

    Stryker is my bro. I find him rediculously fun to play as.

    I've missed Mortal Kombat. It's been over a week since I got to play and the soonest I get to play it again is thursday night. But on thursday night I will be playing the shit out of it.

    Problem I have with Kano is he seems like a very one-trick pony. BPFPBP x3 > Kanoball is reliable 30% damage but he feels like he lacks variety. And don't get me started on the input for his regular Kanoball.

    He is a very good character though. Excellent projectile and Kanoball is a brilliant punisher. I'll go tool around with him in the lab.

    How I play is:

    X Y RB = Throw FP BP
    A B RT = Block FK BK

    Assuming you hold the D-Pad side of the pad in your left hand like... Well, a regular pad, your index finger can rest comfortably on the left shoulder button (LB) for quick, instinctive blocking. However when I did this I had all manner of problems adjusting to the setup to use enhanced moves. By putting Block on the bottom row along with kicks, it's also very easy access to X-Ray attacks.

    Not to say it wouldn't and can't work with block as LB but it wasn't for me.

    netcode is not shit, it's only in king of the hill matches i've had bad lag. in 1v1 matches i've had solid connections with minimal slowdown.

    What other fighting games have you played online extensively and at a serious skill level?

    If it's stuff like King of Fighters or Soulcalibur, it'd explain a bit.

    kanoball may be the one move in the game that is inherently easier to do on a stick instead of a pad. It's so easy to do on a stick. You can pop it out on reaction to stuff easily.

    So i am sure people who play fighters competitively already were aware, but would linking Tom Brady's "ultimate MK guide" on testyourmight.com be worthwhile? He doesn't have all the kharacters done, but it does have useful stuff.
