I was watching a movie on my laptop when it suddenly went black and shut off. Couldn't turn it back on, although the power light would come on there would be no other noise and nothing would happen.
I took it to a shop near me. I live in Thailand, so shipping the thing back to Dell would have been a huge pain in the ass and there are tons of computer shops all over. When I take it and show them the problem, they say it's probably the motherboard and will cost around 2000 baht (60 dollars), and that I can pick it up tomorrow. Today they call and say that the hard drive is totally fried, so I'm going to need a new one, and they can't find anything smaller than 500 GB which is going to be another 1400 baht (45 or so dollars).
I go to pick it up today, and everything seems fine except a bunch of keys arent working. (3,4,5 -- E,R,T - DFG CVB). Basically they are all in a row which makes it seem like something is definitely wrong with the keyboard, not just the keys are sticking. They said they will try to fix it, but if it is broken they certainly won't be able to get the replacement part.
If I go in tomorrow and they are not able to fix it, what should I do? I don't think I should have to pay them 3500 baht (a significant sum for me) for a computer I won't be able to use, especially considering its their fault (I have never had any trouble with the keyboard before, I'm certain that they are the ones who caused the problem.) From their perspective they would say they already put in the hardware (can I tell them to take it out?) Hopefully they will be able to fix it.
Has anyone heard of a keyboard problem like I have described (whole columns of keys not working)?

I never considered that, but that does certainly seem possible. Thanks
