You guys should know the difference between making an argument and trolling :P.
I think you'd be a lot better just ignoring them. You can't really troll someone who's only looking for attention. At my campus we have a "free speech lawn" where this kind of stuff happens a lot, which is super unfortunate since it's next to the fountain, which is an otherwise excellent place to chill.

The sane ones is a bridge too far in my opinion. In reply to the question about growing up poor and did you get rid of things:
I always sold games and stuff because it was the only way I could afford to get new games. My first computer was reposessed by sears. I got another computer shortly after that. Years later I found out my mom borrowed money from her boss to pay for it. So I've had trouble getting rid of old computers ever since.
I did have attachment to toys. I still have a dumb plastic cow out of one of those quarter vending machines. My dad gave me quarter to get it.
I get teary eyed even thinking about getting rid of it. My dad is still alive. But I knew he struggled, and as a kid I thought a quarter was so much money. I felt terrible about it altogether. He never made me feel that way, I just was born with some natural guilt.
Honestly I'm all misty thinking about that fucking stupid cow. I have other toys like that too. Even though I realize now, that at the time, I got the toys because my parents had the extra money at the time..and it was only a quarter, or two bucks, or maybe 5. But I had this inherit guilt about it, like I was a terrible person if I didn't revere their sacrifice.
Even in retrospect, understanding things better, I can't rationalize that guilt out of existence.
going to an anti-abortion rally to counter protest with a clothes hanger and a 'free abortions' sign is horrible. do you realize how offensive this can be to women present who have received abortions? marginalizing the gravity of the procedure is something done by conservative cunts who insist it's just the 'post-sex ritual' for 'loose women' in america. don't be that dude, feigning offense and then creating your own just because it makes you laugh.

We need a psychologist in this thread to understand this stuff better.
FYI, Planned Parenthoods often recruit volunteers for escorts. People whose job it is to go to women getting out of the car and walk them to the entrance so they're not harassed, and then stand outside looking serious and making sure that cars don't get vandalized.
Feral on
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

Yeah, I imagine the only passable ways to go would be to either pretend to be with them and gradually get crazier and more blatant about wanting to punish women for being independent OR to just be a human and show genuine pity on these people who are obviously so lost as to think they're helping anybody.

Holy shit. I would totally volunteer for this. I need to get in shape so I can stare down fundies!

I was really shocked the first time I learnt about this. It's just horrifying.
I really kinda worry that people will start doing this in the UK, but I don't think it will ever become widespread.

On Mother's Day, anti-abortion activists march down the streets around here waving around pictures of aborted fetuses. Those people are shitbags. Whatever your stance on abortion is, I don't give two shits. Waving around pictures of aborted fetuses makes you an asshole, period.

Oh man, that sounds great. All my volunteerism with PP was either phone banks or being the token male at awards banquets and stuff.

I hate shock tactics. Growing up in an evangelical household will do that to you though. I am so over being threatened with fire and brimstone (or shock images) that I just laugh when it's brought up now.
As for abortion, I have no opinion. It's a very, very, conflicting subject for me. I am deeply, deeply, mixed about it. But I know that making women feel like shit for being in that terrible situation is wrong. Period.

I have an opinion on abortion, but that's unimportant. What is important is what is bolded here. No woman treats abortion lightly. It is not something they take the afternoon off to do before their tennis lesson. Women who choose to get them are making a pretty serious choice and they often do so because their situation sucks.
Especially since quite a few women walking into that clinic were raped, and shaming and accosting rape victims is not something I can support, ever.

I'm not comfortable with either political party, because I am offended to my very core that it is so easily said and understood when you say "either political party" what the fuck.

So do most people here.
The south is nice when you are white and not talking about politics.

"demonrats" and "muslim lovers" don't bother you tho?
Getting tired of it being donkeys and elephants all day long.
What party do you vote for when you're in Israel? Uh, if that's ok for me to ask.
