It's gonna be the peacebringer. Taking up a challenge this time; tough class to play, but I did some teaming with him last night (a rare thing for me) and good lord it was a blast.

The fact they gain buffs depending on what is on the team doesn't hurt either.
So, reports are coming in from ComicCon that the way they'll handle the City Traveler veteran badge is to just give everyone travel powers at level four. Oh god I'm all tingly.
EDIT: Here we go, this is second hand. Keep it in mind.
Travel powers at level 4! New travel power pool powers.
Flight gets Afterburners. You cannot use any other powers while it is active.
Super Jump gets a leap attack that will probably work like shield charge.
Teleportation gets long distance teleport, but I only got to level 4 so I don't know how it works.
Super Speed gets Burnout, which instantly recharges all primary and secondary pool powers, but costs 48.5 end, reduces max end by 25% and has a 30 minute base recharge.
EDIT THE TWICE. This one is a direct quote from positron on the boards:
Street Justice and Beam Rifle are Premium Powersets, and all players will need to purchase them to unlock them on their account (similar to how we had locked powersets behind the purchase of Going Rogue).
(emphasis mine)
So. They are now selling new powersets. That might make me not care about any of this shit anymore.
EDIT THE THIRD: I should really finish reading this thread instead of doing this but well i'm stupid. Costume slots six through ten are coming. probably have to buy those also. Bitches.
So yeah, you DO have to buy the costume slots. If I'm reading this really, really fuzzy picture right they are 800 paragon points per slot (unlocked on all characters) so that's ten fucking bucks per slot. Prices are still in beta, but Street Justice and Kinetic Melee were both priced at 800 points (two months of being subbed up), They are actually selling uncommon recipes for 100 each (rare recipes were not for sale), and apparently there is a Hoverboard travel power that costs 600. Man this is just turning in to a regular Visa Crucible isn't it?
They're adding voiceovers. I haven't had sound on in this game since like the second hours that I owned it. So whatevsky.

This is also true, but I think it just brings them on an even level with the existing archetypes. The thing that I found engaging about them was basically how I was playing the character in the team environment - typically I was a straight damage dealer for the party, and didn't suck too badly at that, while at other times I was lobster tanking and disrupting when things started to get a little hairy. I like the dynamic role, and I like playing a toon who's maybe a bit tougher than my usual (blasters), and one that's team focused - I'm usually a solo player, so it'll be a nice change of pace.

I don't necessarily mind having to buy power sets if it means speeding up actually getting new ones, so long as the price is reasonable and the rate of production actually does increase. Two months' worth of a sub's stipend (or $10 in points, whichever) is stretching my idea of reasonable in regards to power sets just a bit, but given I'll probably be able to outright grab one or both the moment I21 goes live? Wouldn't be an immediate deal breaker even if I hated the idea.
Since subbed players do get free points, they can get the sets for free, so it's not a huge deal. If it hits the point where stuff that used to be free overwhelms what people can rack up in points (say, in the time between issues) then there might be cause for concern.
City of Heroes Facebook Facepalm Promotion
No gesture speaks louder than the facepalm. When words fail to convey the level of exasperation, embarrassment, disappointment, or incredulity at a situation, slapping your palm to your face says volumes. And now, a select few players will be able to use this versatile gesture in-game: with our City of Heroes Facepalm free prize draw Promotion, we will be giving out 5,000 facepalm emote codes on Facebook!
Visit the "Promotions" tab on our Facebook page, and follow the directions for a chance to receive a region-specific code that can be redeemed for an in-game facepalm emote! Codes are limited to 5,000 in this run, and it's first-come, first-served, so be sure to act fast!
Please note that this promotion is limited to residents of the United States (excluding the State of Rhode Island, and excluding Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. territories, military installations and commonwealths), Canada (excluding Quebec), or the European Union.
You can view the full terms and conditions of the City of Heroes Facepalm Promotion here.
Head over to Facebook now for your chance to get the in-game facepalm emote! And don't worry, if you don't get a facepalm code in this run, we will be giving out more at a later date!
Edit:
If paying for new powers means that we see more new powers I'm kind of okay with that. I figure I'll be accumulating 400-550 points a month for my paid subscription and I'll just use that to slowly unlock the goodies I want.
Also, does anyone know how to get the forum to email you when there are updates to a subscribed thread? Kind of seems like you can't anymore.

Boy, that was a slap in the face. Lumping Rhode Island and Quebec together?
Not sure on the email. I do get a lot of notifications about the bookmarked threads.
@Robziel, I don't think you can get emailed when someone posts in a bookmarked thread. You can go to your profile page, then hit "My Preferences" to see the notification options, but the only ones with an option for email are for receiving PMs or being added to a Private Conversation. Everything else just notifies through a popup.
What really strikes me about the next issue is just how much it rewards old players of the game. It's a real signal to old players that left to return.
As an old vet, who no longer subscribes, I get an awful lot to return - and I can do it all for free. I was reading how much I get to retain what I previously had to subscribe to get access to and I was pretty impressed.
I'll definitely be returning. I can now essentially revisit old characters and old friends for free. That's pretty damn cool. I think even the most jaded gamer out there, has to agree this is a pretty cool issue and could really help revitalize the game.
yeah, it does seem kind of crazy. It seems like I'll be able to play basically the same game for free that I previously had to pay 15 bucks a month for. I keep expecting there to be some kind of catch that'll result in me having to pay to get to all my shit, but it doesn't really seem as though there is.
are they just going to lock out the character slots that free/premium players no longer get access to? that's potentially sort of crappy
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
I don't know for sure, but I think if the slot had a character in it already, you get access to it. You just can't transfer it to another server, nor access the VIP server, nor will you get currency to buy their content. I also think all GR content is locked out.
They are essentially banking on two things with this structure:
1. That they'll attract an awful lot of old players back. This is pretty useful given how many old players are out there.
2. That when you do return you'll be so enticed with the new monthly content and want access to other paid content, you will eventually either subscribe again or buy points.
This has shown some success in other games. I am certainly intrigued and interested.
I hope it works, because I think its a pretty cool way to revitalize a game.
Free players will be given 2 character slots. That is all.
Premium Players will be given two character slots plus however many slots they purchase.
Returning Players not paying a subscription will be given 2 slots, plus however many they have earned through vet badges, or have purchased either directly or through buying GR or whatever.
When you come back, all of your existing characters will be locked, and you'll have a number of tokens available equal to 2+vetbadges+bought outright+GRetc. You can use these to unlock the characters you wish to play.
Oh and when I say two, I mean TWO. Not "two per server." I mean TWO.
Free players will be given 2 character slots. That is all.Premium Players will be given two character slots plus however many slots they purchase.
Yeah the phrasing on the site, doesn't make this clear, but Narbus is right. Here's the phrasing:
Retain nearly everything you already purchased or unlocked, including Super Boosters, expansions, and directly purchased character slots.
I took this to mean, because you had purchased the game before and subscribed you got access to all characters you'd previously made. It specifically means any additional slots you bought. I think I did buy one (maybe two) on Virtue back in the day. I forget.
Still, it's a pretty good deal. Having two characters that can go to top level and access a lot of the content in the game for free, is a very good deal indeed. I get all the vet rewards I got before, plus any additional boosters I bought before too. I'm pretty pleased with the deal. It's less draconian than what Champions offered, which took away costume pieces and wanted to convert my entire power selection for characters I had previously paid to create.
Would have liked to see some indication of what Time Manipulation actually does, other then just glow in a new way. But that's some damn nasty looking Shivan stuff running around.
There's something about the font. A bit off, just white like that, don't you think? Oh, I know, it's the drop shadow that's getting to me.
It's pretty amateur to say the least. Other aspects of the video are pretty cool though. This has plagued COH all its career though (in my opinion anyway), it has good ideas, some great implementation but sometimes it lacks even the simplest polish and professional sheen. Like a really great, moist cake, without icing.
Hehehe, which is why I subscribed to COH for years, warts and all. Oh, but a cake with warts is NEVER a good thing. Like the Hollows, the Hollows was a wart.
"Oh just eat around them, you know, cut them out and eat the rest of the cake, its quite delicious!"
My excitement is just kinda growing, here. It looks like they're giving us more of that delicious Apex.
Oh I do want, yes.

I dunno... Hollows had a good idea (zone with a self-contained story) but it was like a black hole with ALL your contacts telling you to talk to the detective and then you never left...

Hehe, in other words, it was one of the worst designed zones of all-time. But its over now...that horrible problem with COH is now long gone. The warts have been removed, we can all enjoy our cake without worrying about whether we'll bite into a polyp.
As an aside, I've never thought COH had good zone designs. I always thought the moniker "City of Doors" was the perfect description of what the game really was, at some level. But the real strengths of this game made the game supremely enjoyable anyway. It's the first game to really let you design your own creation - and players went to town with it and produced amazing stuff with it. Even the AE produced amazing content, I thought. There's a real creative element to the COH community, that I really admire. Even the base editor could produce spectacular spaces, with some supremely creative crafting of space. COH is an awesome game, but I don't think zone designs are in my top ten list of features at all.
Oh and there are some new i21 screenshots up at massively. The first few detail the shiny new chargen. For newbie you can "flag" what you like to do in game, melee damage, control, pets, and then you hop to the next screen where it offers you the ATs that you'll like based on that. Or you can just hop to the next screen.
Still looks like you can't chat from the chargen which is le sadness.
If you drop your sub and you go premium, they're giving you tokens equal to 2 + slots you bought + slots you earned through vet badges + 2 GR slots if you bought GR. These tokens (yes, I know, this is a LOT of currencies in one game) will let you unlock whatever characters you want to unlock.
If you are still subbed up, then their very, very stated goal is that as a VIP you will lose absolutely nothing when they go ftp. You will, in fact, gain a lot of things. So if you're wondering "as a subscriber, what will this cost me?" the answer is "nothing." If you had X slots as a subscriber before i21, you'll have X slots as a subscriber after i21.
