so is there an effective way to get maps going in co-op or am I stuck with bouncing around in rooms of my own creation in singleplayer?
I'm guessing you could follow every other valve game's precedent and make a server and have someone join it, but Portal 2 seems to like its hub and doesn't seem to rely on dedicated servers. It'd also be nice if maps could be downloaded by PS3 users, but I'm 99.9% sure that's not happening.
Anyone know if its possible to play the co-op campaign with yourself? I got the PS3 version, which means I also have the PC version. If I load the game up on both machines, can I "two box" it?
If you don't mind splitscreen, it's possible to play with yourself on your PC. Getting the controller to be recognized as player 2 is tricky, though. JoyID did nothing for me, so I just had to keep reloading and reloading the map until I finally got the unplug/plug method to work.
Oh, and you won't get achievements, due to having to enable the developer console.

A controller in both hands you say?
Incidentally, due to a misunderstanding with the Colonel, that's exactly how I fought Psycho Mantis the first time. It took getting used to, but it can be done.
I wish there actually was all that smooth acrobatic stuff that Chell is doing. It makes total sense that she'd tumble everywhere for safety, instead of all the headfirst dives and rolls that we make her go through.
odds are the brain dead playtesters they use would probably mess up so many times that the only thing left would be a straight hall with a door on each end.
Wait, when did we start mistrusting Valve's iterative game design and playtesting skills?

The other day I was thinking about all the aperture science experiments we don't see during the game, trying to come up with a few that might work as mechanics for a modification. The only viable ones I've thought of so far are
Frictionless surfaces (distinct from orange gels in that you or the object can't be redirected once you start moving) and gravity manipulation (zero gravity environments prevent you from putting cubes on buttons, high gravity environments mean you can pretty much only go down without a portal).
This game might be a good place to start off making a first modification, since you could probably get away with just using the set-pieces that are already there.
There is, of course, a difference between "the hole in this wall was too small for people to notice" and "people didn't remember what emancipation grids did."
It's also very difficult to judge if what they changed really makes that big of a difference, since no one here has played through the rooms as they originally were.
I'm still not seeing the reason to mistrust their process.
Are you looking at a game design decision that was objectively bad or wrong, and working backwards from there?
More to the point, do you believe Valve is incapable of seeing that this design decision was objectively bad, but you can see it so plainly and obviously? If so, why? And have you considered applying your extremely unusual talent to the field of game design? You might be the world's most naturally talented game designer and not even know it!

Totally right valve are perfect. There is nothing they do wrong ever and there will never be a game better than portal 2 because it is already perfect in every way. As a matter of fact, this should be the only game we should play for the rest of our lives.
Yay for being a passive aggressive dick!
EDIT: Seriously, it's pretty universal the games are extremely easy. The only area that I had to stop and think for 10 seconds was the 1st portal gel room. Which is a bit odd of a puzzle game.
They aren't perfect, wakkawa, they're just better at it than you are. That is literally what I have been trying to tell you.
Why do I believe they are better at it than you are? That's a larger discussion.

The people who make fun of the game being "dumbed down" because of the testers don't get it. I'll say it again: harder doesn't mean better. Portal 2 is a finely polished stone.
Do you have any idea how many people are interested in Portal 2 who don't play video games? A lot. I know a couple of handfuls, myself, and that's just my experience. Valve wants a lot of people to play this game, and they want them to see the end.
Oh Wheatly. My only gripe was how retarded the placement of the fact sphere was. Cost me a few attempts. Oh and the animal king being real was a bit of a wake up call. I'm curious why Glados didn't let Chell out by the parking lot. I mean a field of wheat seems unessecary and a car might be semi useful.

Er, its been a few hundred years. And the Combine had already invaded before the events of the first game. That wheat field might be the parking lot.
Not to mention GLaDOS still hates her guts, she's just sick of trying to kill her.
I have said it before but portal 1 had much more fulfilling puzzles than 2. Even recently playing through it again made me realize the single player puzzles in P2 were extremely easy. I know Valve didn't want to require actual slightly glitchy tricks required to complete puzzles like some of the mods for P1 had, but completely removing any and all twitch and reflex mechanics from puzzles just made it a bit too easy.
Co-op though was pretty damn fun and fairly challenging. I wouldn't have minded if they had puzzles of that difficulty in the single player campaign.

Just so you know, just because someone is better at something does not mean that they themselves also couldn't be better. Seriously, that was your whole point?

Some people like a challenge. There are varying degrees of difficulty however, which portal 2 did not have. just because something is polished doesn't make it auto good, baderpaderp
In the developer commentary they said multiple times they made things easier. I don't think once they said they had to make something more difficult. Also, they also said portal multiplayer was a terrible idea before.

I thought the coop did a good job of increasing the difficulty and feeling more like 'challenge puzzles' to supplement the singleplayer mode which is more about the story.
Besides, it's Valve. I'm pretty certain we'll get free DLC.

There's no evidence that's it's been longer than the span between half life one and 2. 20 years with a giant mutant potato running amok would surely lead to some decay but I seriously doubt the facility would be there a century later without GLados there to fix it up.
All we know for sure is that Wheatly should not be left in charge of relaxtion vaults.

I guess there's no figure stated in the game but all Valve statements say it's been at least hundreds of years. Not that they couldn't retcon that if they wanted.
Which is why a bunch of challenge rooms would have been appropriate.
Which is why now, with the SDK, you can make all the retardedly hard (read: poorly designed) levels you want. Which is all that 99% modders ever do, which is why they are not the ones that ever get hired.

No, there were a few timing based rooms in Portal 1.
I played on a touchpad, so I kinda hated and feared them. Like this one room where you had two buttons to hit to open doors for an energy sphere.
Why I fear the ocean.
(not that 1 isn't a good game)
That's not what your mother said. Last night. When I was with her.

I get an image in my head of a single person with a controller in each handle, and "super easy" isn't exactly the caption I would place under it. ;-)

Does it support KBAM at all? Is there any sort of way to do it? Portaling with a controller is very frustrating.

They tried that, but play-testers found them too challenging. Portal 3 will include a 'I'm #1!' sticker in the box, pre-peeled.
