Yeah i agree. i know some folks have ripped it, but I enjoyed the book. Especially since it plays with some of the stereotypes we have in our head of jedi, sith, smugglers and bounty hunters. for instance ...
Agreed. Great character development. I've only read positive reviews on this book.

They have said to EA investors it'll be released by the end of 2011 at least twice.
They've said in interviews it'll be released by the end of 2011.
And they just reiterated in their forums with other E3 information that the game will be released by the end of 2011.
At this point they'll need a very, very good reason to not release the game by the end of the year.
Amen, brother. I hate to get all "You kids don't understand the corporate world" but, you kids don't understand the corporate world. This game IS coming out by the end of 2011, period. For just these reasons.
Huh, I didn't know they've said to the investors that it'll be out by the end of 2011. Guess that means it really is coming out this year.
They left a window open, as this gaming news story from May reports. So the corporate window is open for a delay, though their latest announcements seem to say 2011 is the expected target that they aren't deviating from yet. Either is fine by me.
In the end, I don't mind if the release date is later rather than sooner, but I do dislike this whole marketing game they seem to be playing with the release date. I'm guessing because it's a big game in terms of size and scope it needs a ton of testing, but we've already had a full year of testing. I'm just curious to know what the deal is.
btw I didn't notice this until folks talked about the whole backwards timeline thing.
So far we've seen Malgus in three videos (plus Deceived). In those videos we've gotten to see him go from normal to a mangled/Vader-like Sith in verse order.
In return his face is normal and he doesn't seem to be wearing anything but armor. In Hope his face is banged up but he's not wearing a mask/respirator-thing.
And finally in Deceived he's pretty banged up and needs help breathing.
So you can basically piece together the timeline of these videos based on his face.
I'm jumping into following the game late, so my patience tank is full. I'm sure those of you who have been following for a year or more are getting tired of it.

A year of testing doesn't mean "a year of the game being done and just being tested". They start testing as soon as they can and stuff is being implemented while they do so. A full year of testing (including alpha testing) is not at all surprising for an MMO. According to the beat Q&A, shit is still being implemented. That's normal and expected.
And every game has release dates that jump around. It's business as usual.

yes they can and do change. but like i mentioned you need a good reason. because it potentially means your stock taking a hit (especially when they've been as emphatic as they have been about it being released this year).
people pretty severely overestimate the value of statements made to investors in public meetings
ed: I mean, the idea that investors are going to jump in significant numbers from EA (a worldwide company with dozens and dozens of properties and revenue streams) because one title got delayed six months is ridiculous

The excuse will be, "the game isn't ready yet". There, that's the excuse. And it is coming. To my narrow mind, it's pretty clear, given how little they had to bring to the table at e3 the game isn't ready.
You have to remember if you wish to sell "late 2011" you'd want to get it out in time for Christmas, which means a November release (at the latest), which means CDs, box art and other pieces that need to get actually manufactured, need to out the door in the next 30-60 days. When that happens, they have to announce the date, because it will leak anyway. So you have about a two-month window right now to get it done on time.
Sorry, I just don't see it, of course I am just speculating.
And as for investors and the stock, EA would take a far greater hit if they released a game before it was ready or stable.
Besides, they could delay the announcement after quarter results post. So if they have a decent second/third quarter, they could announce the delay after the stock surged on the results...and take a lot less loss that way than they would if they forced a game through that isn't done yet.
You also deny any delay, right up until the day you admit there will be a delay. So whatever bravado you read on a forum, is just bravado. All dates are tentative until they are officially confirmed.
I think we'll see some sort of pay-2-beta test scheme soon. That for those who subscribe for a yearly rate (or lifetime rate) at reduced pricing, will get a guaranteed beta spot. That should show the stock holders they mean business, and allow the very rabid fans an entryway into playing the game this year.
Unless I see a radical expansion on fully playable content made available to the public, this to me, looks like an incomplete game that they expose in only very controlled ways, to very select crowds. Which seems to signal, a game that isn't ready to be released. I think the fact there is no open-beta yet and they have about 60 days to ship their box art and CDs to the manufacturer, we're looking at another delay...one they won't announce until it is the best tactical time to admit it.
I just see a need for the game to collect revenue. And they need people to test their scalability. So I just saw a happy marriage of those two facts.
I dunno, EA seems to be in a difficult spot. My main point is, if they were in a position to start producing their retail sku, they'd have touted more loudly and liberally at e3. And if they don't start producing retail skus soon, there's no way they can be ready in time for the 2011 Holiday season.
If they knew for a fact that the game was coming out in 2011, we'd already have a release date: holiday '11. The fact that they haven't announced that already tells you that even if that is their target, they are unsure enough that they'll make it that they're unwilling to announce anything.
There won't be any paid beta scheme, particularly not for the sake of investor relations. There's no more counterproductive thing to say to investors than "we're getting desperate and we'll do anything to raise more cash for this project."

I know of no stock investor who sees revenue as desperate. If a pay-2-beta scheme locks in a significant number of long term subscriptions, investors will LOVE it.
That said, I concede the scheme may not make sense. It might actually create more blow back than actual revenue. So I take your larger point. It all depends on how desperate people would be to play the game early.
I never understood why anyone would pay a lifetime subscription, they have a history of completing ripping people off.
Speeder wouldn't render, they had to go to another speed to get it to show. At first, it looked like he was straddled on thin air. Hilarious. This game isn't close to being done.

I've had the same bug occur in both wow and rift as well just so you know

Yeah that shit is HARDLY enough to go "LAWLZ NOT READY".
Having actually seen and played other MMOs while they were in beta and at release, I can say the gameplay footage I've seen of the TOR beta looks far more far along than the other games were at their respective releases. I've no doubts at all the game is going to be ready for launch by the end of this year. 3 or 4 more months might as well be an eternity at this point.
I think we'll just have to wait and see for two month before it'll be clear about a release date this year. There's Gamescom and PAX Prime right next to each other in August. PAX Prime was a big deal to them last year, so it might be the place for a release date. August is as close to the holiday season as they can comfortably get if they want to push out the release in November while still being a place for big announcements.
Also, what they're showing at E3 isn't a demo. They're logged onto the actual full game there. They've been bringing the full game to shows since Gamescom last year.
My six man programming team has pulled off miracles over three months. Art assets take considerably longer to generate.
I know what you mean. "Crunch" time pulls off real miracles. Point, well-taken. I've been on teams that do exactly that.
It was unclear if the art was incomplete, or the art simply didn't render. It was dismissed quickly as a "bug" and they chose another vehicle. It wasn't supposed to happen though, that was clear, based on the reaction.
I have other negatives about the demo too. But I've tainted this forum enough with my worry and frustration, let me accent the positive.
I liked the power trees, I liked that clearly there was some ability to really customize your build. I like the continuation of how the force affects your toon as KOTOR had. I liked overall zone (although they seemed to recycle travel through a specific part of it I notice).
I liked the general lack of sprawling mobs everywhere. This seems like a strange thing to praise, but I find a lot of MMOs are just CRAWLING with trash. This seemed to lack that - and it would be a welcome relief if this is how it really was. Of course, this might be indicative of the demo and lack of people on the server they played on. Still it would be great of SW:TOR was not littered with mobs on every square inch of the map.
The Jawa was cute.
I think this game could be a smash. I really do. My cynicism about the release date is perhaps my reaction to the frustration that it is not already here. I'm actually quite bored as a gamer right now. I've burned out on WOW and COH. I couldn't get into Rift.
I'm playing a dumb tank game right now - for free, where half the tanks in the game were just "concept" tanks that never actually saw battle, but I inexplicably can't play as England, Canada, Australia or Japan. So I could use a new, fresh MMO to RP with.
I'll tone down the "it ain't gonna release this year" rhetoric and try to ride the general mood of enthusiasm and anticipation. I'll be calm, at peace so that I may see more clearly.

You may want to play a Sith Warrior/Inquisitor then

And now I may need to roll one...
The death system seems nice though.
Never had client-side models not render in Rift or WOW. Played WOW since 2005.
Considering the beef of the machine and how it would be optimized for the demo and the care at which demos are sculpted it was a total LAWL. I howled.
Of course, fanboi mileage may vary.
*shrug* It's not like I want it to fail guys. I just see a very cautious, scripted demo here, with glitches.
"Flame thrower: check."
Fanboy mileage may vary, however I can easily recall multiple mount bugs in WoW in the last month alone.
They're visual only, but they exist.
Granted, this was pre-BC but I had a good time "flying" around for a while after the wyvern thing took me where I was going.
