Moore was the worst Bond but he wasn't trying to be an early Connery/Craig Bond so it is hard to say he is worse, only that one prefers the latter. I mean, Moore tried to be more of a lothario and ladies man than the others, and I think that that was due to the intention of the writers/directors as well as the fact that those movies were made in the seventies and it really, really shows.
I listened to a radio interview of Moore. he was asked if he felt nervous following up Connery and such, his reply was "No, I am far too arrogant for that."

don't get me wrong, i love Roger Moore, and his films are enjoyable. but craig is the closest anyone's come to the bond that i imagined when i read the books.
I only ever watched Quantum of Solace on a plane ride without the headphones to hear the audio. Kinda feel like today might be the day for a double feature of Casino Royale and Quantum.

Roger Moore was a great Bond. Or more accurately, a great version of Bond. He's not as hammy as people make him out to be. In fact, he comes off as quite serious in The Spy Who Loved Me. He plays the role as an agent who loves his job, not unlike Sean Connery. The problem is the scripts made him do silly stuff like dressing up as a clown. And he isn't as masculine as other actors like Connery and Craig.
Some of the gambling scenes in Casino Royale were a bit odd for me, because I know fuck-all about poker. So in the scenes where the dealer would turn over say, an eight and a two and there would be a reaction shot of the other players I'd just be wondering "was that... was that a good thing? I think that was a good thing but oh wait the bad guy is gloating"

Brosnan was far worse than him.
i guess Moonraker really soured me on his Bond. that film also features the amazing line "bad news from space"
am I remembering correctly that Casino Royale set a world record for "most complete rolls of a car in a filmed scene"? I think the DVD special features pointed that out
EDIT: also holy shit yes Moonraker is terrible! Although it does include my favorite Bond line ever: "I believe he's attempting re-entry, sir." SO CHEESY!
Bond movies are fun, but they are pretty goofy. What is that mess of a movie with all the different Bonds, and Peter Sellers and Woody Allen and all that? I haven't seen that one. Or the new Daniel Craig ones.

Moore should've just stuck with doing The Saint and called it a day. A point that I agree with in the article about Moore linked above is that his Bond was doing the stupid shit like dressing up like a clown. Sure he bedded chicks left and right, but dressing up as a god damned clown? I think that's why I hold him in such low esteem.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, the final hand in that poker game is so absolutely ridiculous I was laughing the first time I watched it.
Ace High flush
Full House
Higher Full House
Straight Flush.

oh, that's the first casino royale. orson welles plays le chiffre and does magic. it's pretty awesome and incomprehensible at the same time.

the new Daniel Craig ones are considerably not goofy
QoS works best when considering it and Casino Royale as like a 2 parter
on it's own it dosent hold up nearly as well
I think of those two like The Long Halloween and Dark Victory.

Connery > Craig > Moore > Dalton > Brosnan > that weird looking guy from the one in the late 60s who probably ruined some poor casting director's career

And the crazy part is that there was a dude in that car! A stunt driver who broke his sternum in something in that crash

But I can barely even remember Lazenby's performances, which doesn't bode well
performance
singular
The sissiest alpha male ever to grace the big screen.
The ridiculousness of it makes it amazing plus:
ARR EIN SISS ME-YON.
Plus nobody knows what the fuck baccarat is.
sort of a sociopath! sort of a hot sociopath.
Did exactly the same thing in the Saint, an old TV show
Could've been old ladies fighting over the last digestive biscuit
Also huh, honestly forgotten that Lazenby was only in OHMSS
craig is my favorite bond
casino royale is just so good guys
that's awesome.
and Casino Royale is objectively the best Bond film
Brosnan was far worse than him.

Didge are you saying you don't even understand what makes a good poker hand
on its own i think it's a pretty decent action movie
but paired with casino royale i think it works pretty well

The odds of that must be close to 1 billion to 1.

I understand NOW, but at the time... no. No I did not
I wasn't even quite firm on the core concept that they were using the dealer's cards along with their cards to make a full hand! I was a poker dunce
Now I'm a poker "that kid in class who is kind of slow but not quite slow enough to be put in with the 'special' students"
I believe that Casino Royale set the record for "most complete rolls of a car ever"

Much like most of the things James Bond ends up getting into.
I mean, he dropped a guy in a wheelchair down a chimney with his own helicopter.
But yeah, Craig is the best non-Connery Bond, hands down.
