I hope it's different like how Mega Man and GB Mega Man were different.

What, the console and handheld versions? They'll be the same game. The GB Mega Man games were different largely due to the reduced hardware specs (and color limitations), none of which is a concern on modern handhelds.

It's great that there's a 3DS version of this, but since this game is being developed with the Unreal engine, can it even run UE3?

If the iPhone can run UE3, I'm sure the 3DS can.

A quick google shows that this is not the case; won't be surprised if they end up using UE2 for the 3DS port.

The iPhone what? I'm guessing the 5 is but the 4S is probably not more powerful than the 3DS.

I'll turn as much of this game 8-Bit as they'll let me.
Ugh. One of the main reasons I'm excited about this is that they're not making a retro-looking game. Between MM9-10, and probably a few hundred indie titles at this point, I'd be happy if I didn't see the 8-bit art style in another modern game for a very very long time.

Retro is a very fun style with it's own unique charm. I'm glad it's become a thing.

I still enjoy the classic 8-bit Mega Man games more than I ever did MM7 or 8.

The 3DS not running UE3 is more of thing with Epic not liking to port their engine to Nintendo devices rather than hardware specs. I think they said something about lacking programmable shaders or like, but it's mostly a unwillingness to port(comparable game engines have been ported over).

Taking into account the Paypal money, the total is now at ~3,550K-3,600K. I'm pretty certain that we'll get the SP Call stage and retro music, but I'm not sure about that last one. If the Kickstarter continued till Midnight PST, it'd be hit for sure, but it's going to end at 4:15pm PST. IDK if it has any correlation to it, but having it end before "after work" hours just seems like you're losing money(presuming people are more willing to pledge after work and are at home).

Yeah they are always bitching about Nintendo - I think it's partially a personal choice (which they try to justify by complaining about hardware... but yeah, iOS is not more powerful, I'm sorry).

The problem is everyone's doing it. Every week a new game comes out or gets announced with a totally retro NES style. It doesn't feel unique anymore. It doesn't feel fresh.

Retro is an easy style to do because you don't have to draw very well (i.e. you can be lazy/cheap) :P I often feel like I could make better graphics than a lot of "retro" games these days tho, and sprite art is just something I picked up on my own :P

Luckily it seems the only thing 8-bit about this game is going to be the music (if it reaches that goal).

oh man Hyper Light Drifter disagrees so hard

I mean, I guess HLD is less "8-bit" and more "gorgeously animated simple sprites"

Yeah, I think the majority of those games use the style as a crutch. It really just makes me more excited about MN9, since they obviously don't need it.

At 3,565,000 and at LEAST 135,000 via Paypal (as of 6AM this morning) I think it's safe to say with 4 hours to go, that we have hit the next stretch goal of the Single player Call level.

Which makes me incredibly happy as I was really looking forward to that goal!

Let's see what happens in the next 4 hours, only need another 100k for the Chiptune soundtrack!
