The starting guns in BC2 really aren't all that bad, actually.
The only one that really gave me headaches was Assault's starting gun, but even that isn't too bad because their first unlock is, IIRC, the XM8 which will last you a good long while.
Yup, done with Crysis. This ultra-shitty finale is so bugged it's not even worth the effort. So far I've fallen through the floor multiple times, been insta-killed milliseconds after my checkpoint and been hit so hard the game crashed.
For those wanting to get into Bad Company 2, grab the SPECACT kit upgrade. It's $3.00 right now, and although you shouldn't be bothered by not having some special models/skins, the DLC unlocks the final gun in each class.
You know, unless you're a fan of getting your ass handed to you as you try desperately to unlock a weapon that doesn't shoot winged rubber dildos instead of bullets.
If you get your ass handed to you with the starting gun you're going to get your ass handed to you with the final gun.
Are you implying the starter gun isn't garbage compared to the final gun in each class? Cause that's just goosery. After grabbing SPECACT and having access to worthwhile weaponry, I did much, much better.
Also, the fact that +HP and +DMG are unlocks at later levels doesn't help one bit in that regard. Terrible idea, that.
The MG3 is probably the worst LMG in the game, the UMP 45 is not a bad gun but it's bad at being an SMG compared to, say, the PP-2000, the M95 is great if your goal is to be one of the worthless Wookiees whacking each other off on a hill while real men win the game, and the M16 can't even fire full auto. Meanwhile, the PKM is passable, the starting Engineer peashooter is about as anything's going to get until you unlock the PP-2000 or maybe the AKS, the M24 is worthless like most sniper guns, and the AEK is fine. Besides, you unlock the second gun after about 30 seconds of hiding behind a wall spotting people getting spawnkilled, so it's not a big deal that you are stuck with the first gun for a while.
Frankly the gun you have is more or less secondary, unless you're a sniper, in which case you're mostly useless unless you have something that fires fast enough to kill more than 1 person every 5 seconds. What really matters is arming the M-COMs or capturing the flags, and if you're good at the game, you can do that with a Tommy gun and a 1911 (which I sometimes do). Bad Company 2 is really good about making sure high levels don't make you UBER DUED, although you're right that the +DMG perk helps (and the SPECTAT kit won't get you that a second faster).
The only thing that really annoyed me about starting out in BC2 was that class-essential abilities are locked until you finish a couple of rounds.

I tend to leave that part out when recommending the game. Its a miracle I actually got through that without throwing my monitor out the window.

I was frustrated but willing to finish until I spent a solid 2 minutes getting hit with the ice beam continually. Eventually the game just crashed and I called it right there. Maybe I'll go back to it but it was very nearly enough to ruin the entire game. It was that bad.

The only Medal of Honor worth $15 is an actual Medal of Honor, for like, being awesome. And those are free. Except you have to be awesome. Also maybe some of the WW2 Medal of Honor games were worth $15 at some point.
I keep seeing that it's not. Spend your $15 on Section 8 like I did. It's not on sale but it is very cool games.
It has a couple issues, but yeah, this. Section 8 Prejudice is fucking awesome, especially for $15. I've bought games at $60 with less features and shittier gameplay on more than one occasion.

If you want a Medal of Honor game get the Airborne one for 2.50.
Even if you hate it, it's not going to put you out much. It's pretty good though, as the WW II MoH games go. I like the air drop in on each new map, and it maintains the style of the previous MoH games. I'd played the second MoH on PS and enjoyed it, haven't had one since so I grabbed it. I've just finished playing through the first mission and it's good times for John Wayne WW II heroics. It does have a checkpoint system though. It saves after each completed objecive. That sort of thing doesn't really bug me but I know that it's a deal breaker for a lot of y'all.
Yeah this Airborne game is pretty awesome. Likeing the mechanics of it a lot. I could have swore the game came a really long time ago like after Allied Assault but its the last of WW2 FPS games I guess.
Between Critic Reviews, and the 50/50 split on here about Single Player being at least semi-decent, plus what appears to be the ability to crash a helicopter into a tank, and at least a few people to shoot at online it looks like Bad Company 2 is what I am going to go with, besides its only 7 bucks.
Thanks!
Thanks for the tips all, going to mow now and start my download, Good lord its hot in Mississippi when you have to mow...
Why yes, yes it was fucking warm outside when i had to mow the lawn, but I got it done. When i finally finished up and 30 more minutes passed to finish up the download (/comcastgrumble).....I Jumped right into the Multiplayer to to see what was going on...
Promptly got my ass stomped into dust, but what a pretty stomping it was..
Game looks great on my Raedon 5870, and plays just great.... Christ the learning curve is steep, i finished 2/14 on my first map...but let me tell you about one of my first kills.....
I get a JET SKI, I ride around really fast on my jet ski and crash into a bunch of rocks, sandbars and shit before I get the hang of it..When I finally do I see a dude kind of off in the distance....I run my jet ski straight at him as fast as I can, crash (sort of) into the beach, dismount the jet ski, and promptly waste him with my assault rifle...granted I shot a man in the back, but fuck I looked good doing it.
Even if I never play it again (which is unlikely) I got my 7 Bucks worth right there, I was like John McClane, With a Jet Ski, in Armor, with an assault rifle... definitely worth the price of admission.
Thanks to all who replied to me earlier.

Yeah, for the minutes I'm able to play MP (thanks punkbuster for kicking me for "Reason: Unknown"!) it actually runs smoother then the SP. Probably because the lack of smoke/particles.
A good way to play Crysis is just to declare victory and quit partway through. You'll know when.
With the exception of the very last fight, I enjoyed all of Crysis. Two standout moments that most people sort of say "take a pass on:"
Loved the alien ship. The zero-g worked well and getting lost in it felt like experiencing the unknown rather than frustration.
Really enjoyed the aircraft carrier. It was a nice change of pace to have some actual corridor shooting, it was a very pretty environment, and those stupid squid aliens couldn't get away from my smackdown.

I played BF:BC2 back in the beta, pre-bought it because my friends are total Battlefield whores. It's all right, not really for me I guess, but I played it for a bit again a couple months ago and after being out for over a year the game's server browser and friend list are still broken. I have never been able to friend anyone. None of my friends can friend anyone. Sometimes I can search for servers, but not most times, which means I can only play the game with my friends when the stars align.
My best friend is totally stoked for BF3. I think I'm going to take a pass until I can see if BF3 is any better supported.
EDIT: About Crysis - Am I supposed to be finding the tank section brutally difficult. So far the game is fairly easy, a couple challenging places but nothing too hairy. I can't live past the tanks. It took 20 or so tries just to clear the railway station. Am I doing it wrong? I have to abandon the tank almost right away every time I get in a new one because of how heavy the RPG fire is.
Can't believe I made it through EA week with just SimCity 4.
Generally not playing multiplayer anything any more is a help in that regard, though; as is having a laptop that can't handle half the games that were on sale!
I did cave on Portal 2 the other day, on a sale price, although I went for the 360 version. No regrets; it looks, runs and plays great.

Can't speak for the friendslist but I never really had trouble searching for servers (apart from maybe the first week or so)

I had a problem for a while longer, then I discovered that my non-steam shortcut for the game just launched BC2. It never launched the updater. So I was unpatched only finding other unpatched servers/players for a while. Then I dug through the game files and found an updater .exe that was what I had to use as a steam shortcut for the game to launch the right way.
If anyone picked up Dead Space 2 on the Saturday sale, you may want to run the game once, exit, and then verify integrity. I ran into a bug where a bunch of the audio logs and in-game video screens didn't play/show. There was no error or anything. They just never played while going through the game. I didn't really even notice it until I got almost to Chapter 4 and it became obvious that something was missing.
Anyway, I checked the Steam forums and someone else had the same issue. His fix was to verify integrity, and sure enough when I did so, Dead Space 2 started downloading an extra 448Mb with the audio/video log stuff. Figured I would mention it in the thread so other players wouldn't have to start over to see the missing stuff like I have to.

I had a similar problem with Hot Pursuit, except in that case a part of the world was missing. For some reason, the AI racers just speeded past while I was stuck in nothing.
Ow god what have I done ... ended up with Fallout New Vegas, Plants vs Zombies GOTY, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Mount and Blade Complete, Mass Effect 1+2 and Men of War: Assault Squad, all in the last week or so..

Is there anything I can do to get around this ?
buy Vietnam from the EA store, or from Amazon.
Really all it is is a code that you can plug into Bad Company 2 to activate the content.
Unfortunately I don't think there's anything you can do there, actually.

"Hey, can you hop out and repair our tank?"
"No."
"Why not? You're an engineer!"
"Because I just started playing today."
I tend to leave that part out when recommending the game. Its a miracle I actually got through that without throwing my monitor out the window.

Ah! Very helpful indeed!
Thanks for posting that. I sometimes forget there is a world outside of Steam.

If you're a noob, grab someone else's kit!

Yes. The SP lacks polish, but the MP is solid fun.
Really good. Drop the $2.50 on it!

Now I know why everyone was cursing those damned amoeba.
Overall, an awesome experience.
My problem was that Punkbuster doesn't actually have a tab in explorer. I had to minimize everything and it was there.
