I'm guessing the answer is no, but is there a way to deconstruct items to get some raw materials back?
Like, say, if you were clicking the "create iron bar" button too many times, and accidentally clicked the anvil button.
:x Someone let me know when there's an inventory editor. The game crashed on save + exit and I just lost 3 hours of progress, including random drops that I don't expect to get back easily. Fuck.
I have set up a server, almost a virgin world. I am working my way into iron tier so I am still very much a beginner, and I would appreciate brave companions to mine with. Feel free to hop on at 212.181.174.57

Those who venture deep, do you have to make your own caves, or do you find natural caves that provide you access to the deeper areas?
I am not finding any that continue into the depths of new biomes. The first world I created had caves filled with water. The current world seems to have shallow caves, and what connections I can make to other caves are just as shallow.
I went through about 10 of pbat's Let's Play videos, and his caves appeared to be natural.

So we've just about conquered Hell on 72.45.30.219.
I say just about, because it's a running warzone down there. With miners panicking, trying to get ore, before the Sandworm sized undead worms kill them, or the number of imps completely overwhelm them.
We also set up an express elevator to Hell that's safe for people without grappling hooks to use. Though you'll have a hell of a time getting back to the surface if you bind at the bed in the outpost.
Also, obviously, there's an outpost just above hell. I converted the last large cavern we encountered before hitting Hell into what's now a rather large/safe base for people to base themselves out of. NPC's aren't inhabiting it yet. But it has a chest, a bed, a full set of crafting stations, and is probably the only safe area at that depth.
If anyone still has a giftable copy from the four pack I am no longer able to resist the game's siren call and would like to take a copy off your hands. Just PM me

I've had natural caves leading most of the way, but any time you run into a dead end make sure to have a torch so you can see if there's an opening a couple squares away. I'll hit dead ends from time to time or weird spots where I need to travel through water to keep going but if I know I'm out of paths, I just find the lowest spot I can get to and start chucking bombs. So far it's pretty much always led to another cave after 3-5 grenades.
What the slot said. We dug, hit some natural caverns, looked around found another small wall to dig out, and found more depth. It may suck for an expressway, but it is handy to go down and save time digging through it all.
I did that, but its too long to go back down. I build a straight shaft all the way to the bottom. You bring stone block with you and wall in the side or bottom as you go down to prevent all water, lava, and enemies. You can create doors to get to certain areas. Create a small pool of water where you want it to stop and anyone can use it safely. You can build steps back up with wood platforms on one half of the tunnel, but its a major pain in the ass.

I'm taking the server down for a few hours. Unfortunately, it seems today is a bad day for hosting, as it's about to storm outside.
On the bright side, this will give folks some time to decide if they want to work on a new world.
As an idea. If I understand the NPC system right, given that most of the PAers are fairly well equipped, we could take all of our good materials (Ebonstone, obsidian blocks, etc, etc.) and make a Dwarf Fortress style "deep fortress", a few layers down into the earth, where all the NPC's could spaw
Unfortunately, it seems like there's some sort of hidden hardcap on the number of friendly NPC's that can spawn in. Which really needs to be removed. So we can't do any large-scale construction projects on the current world that require NPC's, and have the project be staffed.

Man, after reading through this thread, I want to get this game SO HARD.
I wish that amazon had an option to buy steam gift cards or something, since I have like 20 bucks in amazon fundollars, and no disposable income at the time being, and I want to play this.
I already poured texas hours into minecraft, and this looks right up my alley.
Hey guys, heard there was some server action going on here, what's a good one to join?
I just bought this yesterday, wasn't so sure of it at first but I'm warming up to it. I think it'd be 10x more fun with people to play with.

Just a heads up for those jumping around in multiplayer, apparently the Piggy Bank acts like a stash.
Every character can use it, but it's their own inventory. So if Arthil came along and had a look inside, there'd be his own items, and not mine. This also carries across servers, apparently.
So, before you scrap that world of yours Arch, just have everyone fill up the piggy bank. It also can act as a "teleporter" for your goods, since multiple piggy banks share the same inventory. Have one at home, have one at your dig site, etc.

Some of us use amazon dollars for diapers. If they are transferable, we may be able to work out something.

If you're looking for a well established server, with multiple towns, check out my server once it goes back up. 72.45.30.219.
We've got a number of projects going and done. Including an invincible city at the spawn (That gets sieged every other day.), a highway to each town. A sky highway. An expressway to Hell. An underground mini-fort that's set up for us to siege Hell. And a ton of other stuff. Some of which isn't noticeable. Like the fact that we opened our siege of Hell by partially flooding a portion of it.
The only downside is that some things aren't available for you to do, since other players have already done them. Our only case of documented corruption has been all but pacified, meaning there's no shadow orbs left, and the meteors are all landed, or in a queue to land, once the current ones are mined.
People took things a step further and colonized the corruption, too. So it's only a threat for low levels, now.
To give you some idea of the world progression, we kind of look at a world eating plague as being cute, given that we set up our own "protected" corruption zone outside Sunnydale, to harvest boss summoning materials from.
The dungeon hasn't been breached yet, but it's only one good group away from taking out the skeleton boss, since I went ahead and set up a little house at the edge of it, to spawn at.

212.181.174.57 isn't letting me back on for some reason. I'm not sure which end the issue is on, but it looks like I won't be helping with the dungeon attempt.
Edit: I can connect now that iv'e posted about how I can't connect
This program runs in your taskbar and lets you resize windows that don't normally allow it, like Terraria. I haven't had any problems with it, and it lets me stretch the window out to at least be tall enough to fill up my screen, without having to run it in fullscreen (which looks terrible).
Man, I can't for the life of me get 31337 port to open. I've set it up on the router, even gone so far as to disable windows firewall and avast, and yet still no dice. I hope steam integration, when it comes, will fix all this crap. Or at least let me choose a different port.

Multiple firewalls do not play well together. If you opened the port on your router to the correct internal IP, and your router is working properly, there is something else blocking the port.

Well, yeah. I don't use any firewall besides Windows firewall, and 31337 port forwading is set up properly on my netgear. I even tried to do an internal static IP outside router's typical IP range, and no dice. I doubt it's Comcast blocking the port, but then again they are evil and awful so I wouldn't be shocked if that's the case.
Uggh, lost my GUI and had to hard quit again. Thankfully my character stuff should be saved, but I probably lost all of my tunneling and construction from the last hour.

There's no reason to wait. Even if you can't survive Hell, there's plenty of things to do, that you can do.
On the progression side of things. We've got a metric shit-ton of ore un-mined, just in walking distance of the expressway to Hell. Hell, some guy, earlier, was trekking through the pre-Hell tunnels outside our deep outpost, making iron armor for new players who dropped down to Hell, and stashing it in the armory there.
