I just found out slimes can only jump up. So, if you have a wooden platform, you can effectively make your place slime proof by making the slimes always jump up and over your shit.
Or floating island. That keeps most everything at bay.

Zombies will drop down through a wooden platform if they fall on it from some distance. So, if you have a wooden platform one block below an edge, and then fill in below it with lava...

Wooo, finally fought my first boss and it was a success. Eye of Cuthulu spawned while I was digging, and I ended up beating him and crafted myself a demon bow, just because it sounds and looks so cool. It's a nice upgrade to my gold bow too.
While I was digging I also found some lakes next to lava and made some obsidian. I crafted an obsidian skull too, but I'm not sure if I understand what it does. Can I walk in lava now?
So I stumbled upon the dungeon. Shortly after, a meteor struck the back wall, and to mine all of it, I would expose the dungeon. I don't want to mess up my chance to fight Skeletron, so I left a single line of meteorite at was once the inner most wall of the dungeon. What can I get away with at this point?
If I remove the requirements from a room will an NPC find another place to live? Like if I steal his chair will he move to another room that has everything he needs?
Because the arms dealer colonized my main workshop and I'm tired of him getting in the way.
Also. i was just on terraria.. well i still am and i thought "oh hey i wonder if diannao has a server on here..."... he does.... but it requires a password. can someone please PM me with it?

Pfft.
You blocked me in with some dirt while I was afk that took me 2 seconds to break out of. It was only fair that I dug up to the sea and dropped an ocean on your head.

I dropped into Hell safely for once, ran around a little bit and found a building with a chest and hellforge. On my way into the building I smashed a block that let a single block of lava loose to drop down. I waited a bit. So I get the forge, I go for the chest and right when I land in front of it I fucking splat dead because apparently there was a teeny-tiny bit of lava present. Fuck that shit.
Well, I mean, to be fair, If you actually stood in a really shallow puddle of lava it would still be pretty unpleasant.
UPDATE: I made it back to this exact spot without really trying to, so I made my way to the chest in a much safer manner. What was inside? My third Cloud in a Bottle and other junk. FFFFFFFFFFFFFF

yeah so annoying, I wish the underworld had some unique loot.
The jungle pretty much did the same to me, I was so excited to find a chest surrounded by gold brick, in it's own little temple, I fight through about 10 hornets at once to get to it and I find it's another fecking magic mirror. I also got about 8 more magic mirrors/hermes boots in the dungeon.
So I've had two worlds now where I talked to the old man at night and got killed by Skeletron. After that the old man never respawns, effectively barring me from ever exploring the dungeon.
Is that by design? You only get one shot at fighting Skeletron?
I've heard that if you go into the dungeon and pull one of the skeletron heads outside and kill it at night it'll unlock safe access to the dungeon. If the old man won't respawn. Supposedly.
Interesting. Judging by what I've seen on previous trips inside it might be pretty hard to just pull one skull outside. I'll give it a shot though, thanks.
I take it then that the old man generally respawns for people, and what's happening to me is a bug? The wiki says the old man won't respawn if you kill him (with lava, for example) but that's not what I'm doing.
Picked this game up yesterday... I... Really shouldn't have. It's fun, but I really suck at building stuff. Took me forever to figure out why I couldn't get my house built.... turns out I wasn't using the wood, I was using the wood blocks!
Friggen zombies at me right up mighty quick. Oh well... Should I be building multiple houses? Right now I just have the one for me at night.
I just only today learned there are bosses and armor and and mana. I didnt learn it by getting these things, but by reading this thread. What kind of beast is this game?
Talk to the guide often. He has hints about everything you didn't know about.

I built a multistory house at the spawn point (single player). When I would zone in from death or starting up again, my floor and wall blocks were being destroyed. Dug the house down one block and fixed that problem.
Made my place multistory with a central platform and then rooms to each side. My merchant moved in last. I had a nurse, then demolitionist, and finally the merchant.
The nurse was stuck in a little pit and would not move. I ended up digging out a path so she could make it to the house. Once I had her in sight of the place the blood moon came and she proceeded to die on me.

This is the kind of stuff that I couldn't do either man; I sucked at MineCraft, and I suck at this. However, I'm more inclined to stick with this game just because of the "RPG" elements involved with loot and so on.
Dumb question, though: if I start a character, all my equipment sticks with me if I play online, right? Like, all my inventory? My WORLD, on the other hand, doesn't. So I'd just be building up all over again?
What incentive is there for playing with other people? Is there better loot?

don't worry she'll respawn. Though the respawn seems to be a little buggy. My NPCs wouldn't respawn in the rooms they originally lived in so I had to turn my apartment building into a castle with lot's of spare rooms to get them back.
Instead of a bug it maybe the new nurse just didn't want to live in a room where another nurse had died, WoooOOOoooOOOO!
Regarding the old man/skeletron: From personal experience, if you kill skeletron, he does not (yet) respawn. If you die to skeletron, the old man respawns after a little bit (for me, I died to skeletron on one day, played for another hour or two, went to bed, went to work, came home from work, old man was back. Not sure if he was supposed to respawn instantly and I just had a short term respawn fail glitch, or if he's supposed to respawn after X amount of play time or X amount of RL time or what.) Haven't personally tried melting the old man in lava.
Regarding needing to MP: I haven't played MP yet and have completed basically everything. There is nothing in the game that *requires* outside assistance.

I am nearly positive that day occurred in-game after I'd died to skeletron (actually that multiple days occurred in-game) and I ran around the dungeon entrance and made a few suicide runs into the dungeon with no old man but one big pissed off over-9000-damage skeleton head in the dungeon.

Yeah, there's a problem with this then because I've passed more than a week in-game on two different worlds and the old man never returns. The brief moments I've willingly exposed myself to the screaming idiocy of the official forums have reinforced that it's happened to other people, though it's possibly infrequent.

edit: and the Old Man was right there that morning so the "not spawning" thing is definitely a bug.

Yes.
It's just never a good idea.
What I do know is that I am afraid of the dark. And I make caves where ever I am when night starts to fall. I hide.

Beat the game.
That was fun. Now to either build something ridiculous or go play something else. Hmmmm.

That means if you get five Clouds in a Bottle, why, you can jump five times!
It's brilliant
Obviously hitting the ground would heal you... that or damage the ground? I dunno. :P
Full Molten Armor/Tools, Murasama, every accessory, all bosses beaten, dungeon cleared out.
I think I have basically done everything I could want to do but max out my mana

not from what I've seen, I'm pretty sure I've got everything ans was able to do it solo.
There's nothing you can't handle on your own at all. You just need to be Batman and prepare properly with the right gear and a stack of potions.
I like this game but I want to play with multiple people
Also how have people been screenshotting their game? Just print screen? Does the game save screenshots in a separate folder?
He loves to stand right over my piggy bank whenever im in the house with him.
Its a huge house. he just waits till im heading to it and runs up and stands in front of it so i cant click it.
I use Steam's built-in screenshot function. Hit F12. F11 takes away the interface for cleaner shots.
There are a few people who run servers on the PA vent channels. Some of us all the time, others only when requested.
Often we have scads of gear to give new players, just be wary that getting a new pick from one of us will basically ruin the progression for you
