    Read the goonboards on starting a new character. They have this cool Evemon program that helps you schedule training, and goon has a fantastic article on training for whatever you want to do and the best skill order for it

    first, you need to be in merch

    once you're in merch register on goonfleets forums (there is a walkthrough on the goonfleet wiki)

    once you have a goonfleet account you can see the wiki

    In High Sec (where you start out), it is impossible to PVP without getting raped by the Concord Police (npcs). Usually you are killed so fast, the person you are attacking survives (sometimes not, often not if it was planned to be a suicide op.) But that doesn't happen if you are at war with another alliance/corporation. As long as the war declaration (wardec) is in effect, they can attack you anywhere without recrimination. In local these people have a red star in their name, on the overview they are highlighted red and often blink.

    In nullsec (where we claim sovereignty and make our home) you can attack anyone for any reason without fear of Concord, so when in nullsec always check local, if they don't have a blue square in their name, that means they are either neutral or an enemy. Either will attack you and you should enter the system with care.

    The first time I used an EVE trial, gates didn't show up on the default overview, so I thought you had to autopilot everywhere.
