ACB was a fucking great game. It doesn't matter how long it took them to make it, the fact is that it was great. It didn't feel like an expansion pack at all. There is no precedent for the AC series sucking or lacking in quality, if anything it's been on a rise (though I liked AC2 more than ACB), so anyone saying ACR is "bound" to suck is being pointlessly cynical.
Really? ACB, although I enjoyed it, was far from a full sequel in terms of single player. There simply wasn't as much content as AC2. And many of the art assets were reused. It's the very definition of the expansion pack (in the old-school, PC game sense of the term. Compare the amount of content in Half-Life: Opposing Force or StarCraft: Brood War). Only the addition of multiplayer made it a full game. But they can't very well add multiplayer again. It's going to feel like a rehash. Maybe a high quality rehash, but still not as cool as something fresh.
Yeah, if AC2 had a fault (and it's a game I find extremely hard to fault) it was in the timeline. While I really appreciated the attempt to tell a story that spanned 20+ years, it just didn't really work out. Memory sequences that were supposed to last a couple of years felt like a few days (maybe a couple of weeks max) instead. I think a big part of this was actually caused by the limited breaks form the Animus (almost certainly an overreaction from players who didn't like the interstitial segments in the original). A few more breaks where you play as Desmond that had you returning years later might have been more effective at imparting the passage of time. Or even bring back AC1's "Fast-forwarding memory to a more recent one." Instead we and Desmond experience Ezio's life with only one gap/break and yet are supposed to feel like a significant amount of time has passed.
Conversely, this is one area where playing as Ezio and Altair might really help things. When you flip between them, it's really easy for the game to explicitly tell you how much time has passed without that sense of cognitive disconnect. Overall I really like the idea of switching protagonists and think there's a ton of interesting stuff that can be done from both a gameplay and a narrative perspective, especially seeing the same city a couple of hundred years apart (Constantinople for Altair, Istanbul for Ezio). I'm curious if they change Altair's movements to match Ezio's more rapid, fluid controls. I will also admit to wondering how Desmond is returning to Altair, since AC II implied that there was a fixed moment after which Altair's genetic memories stopped. I do want people scared shitless of me though. By the time this game takes place Ezio and Altair are both supreme bad-asses and I want the world to know it. The games thus far (although I'm only a quarter or so through Brotherhood) have done a great job of making you feel like a badass, but in this game I want to be recognized as one as well.
In any case, there's a lot of potential for things to go very wrong here, but this could also be the best game yet in the series if they execute well. Also, when the hell are we going to hear more about the 3DS game? And are either of the DS entries remotely worth picking up? I figured they were the typical Ubisoft DS dreck and passed them up, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Possible I guess, but unlikely. We know Subject 16 is descended from Ezio (that's why the Animus chose Ezio in the first place, he was a common ancestor for Desmond and Subject 16). If Ezio is descended from Altair (which is widely assumed but actually never explicitly stated to be the case) then Subject 16's memories from Altair should stop at the same place as Desmond's, since Ezio is presumably descended from only one of Altair's kids. If Ezio is not descended from Altair then it's possible that 16 comes from a different child, but it strains credulity that Subject 16 and Desmond could both be descended form both Altair AND Ezio via different children.
Plus do we even know if it's possible to relive someone else's memories? Subject 16 left clues in Ezio's memories yes, but those were modifications to memories Desmond already had and not created de novo from a random ancestor. We haven't seen anything yet to indicate that Desmond could relive the life of a Subject 16 ancestor that he himself wasn't related to.
16 is basically living as an AI inside the animus, so his memories are technically in there and possible to access. 16 could even relive Altair independently and Desmond could handle Ezio, to minimize confusion. The exact lineage is still a problem, but it's not like 16 isn't already related to a ridiculous number of important people.

I don't know, dude
There's a ton of new assets in Brotherhood, a ton of new content in terms of missions and variety in activities you can do, a ton of new dungeons to go exploring in, plus the synch system and all the "brotherhood of assassins" systems
That plus multiplayer is a lot of shit to be an "expansion pack"
Granted there's a lot of reused assets too and Ezio is still the main character and that makes it feel lazy, but if you look at it closely you see that there's more new than there is old
Besides, I hated all those different cities in AC2. A lot of them were tiny and had a bunch of countryside stuff that was barren and lifeless, and after you've gotten past them in the story there is no reason to go back ever, and even if there was it's still a bunch of loading screens you have to sit through
I do agree that this game has a lot more to prove, and I'm rather pessimistic about it, but I've enjoyed my time with Brotherhood far more than my time with AC2

What?
I'm relatively sure the main quest was nearly as long as AC2; with all the side-missions, even longer than AC2
I played AC:B straight after AC2 and, whilst I completed it, I was really REALLY bored of the setting by the end of it. And I wasn't big on the one city approach, I quite liked travelling from one to the other.
Whilst it hasn't got as much to do I still love the city design of AC1 more than it's sequels.
I'm hoping AC3 cranks up the difficulty a bit, I don't think I died once during the story mode (other than resets due to failing/being spotted), combat was stupidly easy. As soon as you have the hidden blade you can kill anyone.
AC2 is pretty unique among sequels for having a completely different setting and protagonist, the worst you can say about AssBro is that it's a "normal" sequel
AC2 had already matured him to a point where AssBro didn't really have anywhere to go with the character development, so the story was basically "lose the apple, regain the apple".
That said, since Revelations has all three characters, so I don't think it'll be crutched with another kinda 'been there, done that' story. Plus, Constantinople. Really looking forward to it.
Oh and the fact that this isn't AC3 means I get to put off my AC playthrough. Yay! Even if I do have the slightly better PC version of AC1 (which I got free with my graphics card), I still dread going back and playing it. But I will before AC3 comes out.
'Cause Ezio doesn't want to turn into a fat, lazy CEO of Murder, Inc.?
As much as I loved the renaissance ninja team they gave us in AssBro, I rarely used them in open conflict. Mostly because I never once felt overwhelmed when fighting...and I didn't want to see them die in front of me. Then again, I never lost one in the field either. Despite them being mostly mute, I became strangely attached to them, so I hope they give them even more personality in the next game.
I'll stick with AC because interesting historical games are rare as jewels. The fighting system can be overly easy at times, but I haven't seen a single other game handle medieval combat as well without looking stupid. In AC people look like they're actually fighting for their lives and not just clanging away at each other depleting hit points, even if they do stick with the 'attack one at a time' mook chivalry.

I was going to start liming this but then I would have run out of lime.
I'm cautiously looking forward to AC: Revelations.
With that said, here's some info that is apparently taken from the latest Game Informer.
- Ezio is looking for seals in Revelations. These seals hold the memories of Alair. They'll allow Ezio to peek into Altair's life (just as Desmond uses Animus to peek into his ancestors lives).
- You'll control Altair through these sequences.
- The bulk of the game is set in Constantinople which will be split into 4 huge districts (Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial and Galata)
- You'll also visit Cappadocia
- Ezio is over 50 years old in this game
- Ezio has a new item called the hookblade which allows him to use ziplines throughout the city. UBI says that it speeds up navigation by about 30%
- You can also use the hookblade to reach out and pull enemies in for a combo
- Ezio can now make bombs through a crafting system. UBI says that there are over 300 bomb types
- They've modified the control scheme so that circle/B will control the hookblade and triangle/Y will control project weapons and bombs
- Eagles vision has become eagle sense. "Eagle sense let's you focus on a character and see where he's been," Amancio says. "You'll get an approximation of where he will go. If you're able to detect the path a guard will take, you can run ahead, set a bomb, and create a trap or an ambush."
- They've expanded on the Borgia Towers concept in order to create a new system. Throughout the city there are Assassin's Den's, you'll need to complete various assault scenarios in order take down the Templar presence (UBI says that there's more variety than in the Borgia Towers). Once you obtain a den you'll be able to upgrade the buildings in that region along with adding ziplines across the rooftops. You'll also be able to change the guards from being hostile to neutral.
- You can lose control of you dens as you gain notoriety. You'll be able to send your own troops after the templars if you're unable to make it back to the specific den that's being attacked. You can do that by making it to any of the other dens that you currently control. You'll also be able to install a master assassin to control a specific den and you'll never have to worry about it being taken over.
- The assassin leveling mechanic has been increased from 10 to 15
- In order to make the world more immersive they've done away with traditional side missions in favor of random events. For example you may be traveling through a city and notice a shop owner being robbed or a little girl asking for help
- They're using a new type of capture facial technology called Mocam that GI describes as an "intriguing amalgamation of traditional animation, performance capture and the fascinating new style of performance on display in games like LA Noire."
- Desmond is placed back inside Animus where he finds a safe mode called the 'Black Room'. You'll be able to access Desmond's lost memories through that back door
- The gameplay during Desmond's game is described as narrative-fueled puzzle sequences. "Through the manipulation and creation of geometry with the game world, Desmond seeks to reintegrate the splintered layers of his subconscious."
- Multiplayer is returning but this time they're trying to give more focus to the narrative since that's a big part of AC
- You'll be able to custom your character appearance and weapons as well as create guilds.
Assassins controlling Assassins controlling Assassins? Does that beat AC:B's Assassin assassinating assassins?

Well
That uh
That sounds like a motherfucking sequel, son
The maintenance of territory sounds like it will be a royal pain at first, but at least not forever
I'll be honest, next to no interest in yet another game about Etzio, I never really liked him from the start of AC2, though I could be swayed by playing as Altair again.
Then again, I'm clearly not the target audience for these games. I've loved them but I never do the side missions (not a single one in AC2 or AC:B) and the Assassassistants didn't interest me at all (I can't say I got attached to them, I barely used them).
You take Ezio out of these games and Im barely clinging on to interest. For me you could remove the whole eternal assassin guild of alien worshipping son destroyers and keep the renaissance setting and make it about the intrigue and politics and families Ezio is involved in and it would be better for it. Something dark and gritty like the Borgias etc.
and the Assassassistants didn't interest me at all (I can't say I got attached to them, I barely used them).
That word would be even better if shortened to "Assassistants." It's like a pun, but it actually makes sense. Like a bolt of lavender chocolate rolling of a tongue of despair...
*reads own writing* <_< Okay, creepy time over. So now that they've put a trilogy within a trilogy, does this mean that the third game will also come in three parts? If so, I'm not sure if I love that, or hate it. On one hand, they'd be pumping these things out yearly, making the franchise feel a bit less credible and more like cash cow. On the other, this would also extend the story, and allow for more changes, like how Metal Gear made small changes between each iteration (unless Madden syndrome take full control, then we'll be playing the same game yearly, with a different roster of football players/assassins). While I'm typing, does anyone know how much Patrice's departure from Ubisoft will affect the game?
Someone talk me out of getting AC1 for $7. I played most of it, never finished it, and the my roomate traded it in.
But I love the franchise so much I want to just have it to see the ending myself and see all the AC games in a row on my shelf. I just know going back to those controls and missions will be hell though.

I would do it, since otherwise you'll end up spending that $7 on something like, I dunno, lunch... or 2 boxes of tissues and a pack of gum. Also, try to figure out how the game is supposed to be played. I found that to be the reason I dislike a lot of games, I just don't realize what I'm supposed to do. Like, where to put stat points in an RPG, or when to block and evade in a beat-em up.
I actually traded in my copy of AC1 a long while back. I feel bad about this though, considering how much I love the series. Despite its flaws, AC1 is still was still an enjoyable experience for me, and I might buy it again so that I can have a complete collection of the series.
Anyone know if there's a way to filter games on Amazon to exclude the Greatest Hits version? If I were to re-purchase it, it would need to be new, and it would need to be an original case. I hate all the stickers and nastiness that comes with buying a used game.
there needs to be an "alternate history" dlc where Desmond goes insane, or you play as 16, and it's just every historical figure doing crazy shit
