Im planning on getting a van for business purposes and selling my car, I want something with good fuel economy and can carry 3 pallets, also something with a strong enough engine to tow a builders trailer. I also need it to have the standard 3 seats in the front Im thinking about a mercedes vito but i am open to other options. i just decided to ask the internet in case there are better options out there before i go spending 23,000 euros to find there is better to be got. I wont be getting it until October any way because i wont absolutely need it until then
You should just get a van. With a van, it's like you've got an MBA, but you've also got a bloody van. You're not just a man anymore - you are a man with a van

im not a man im a 5ft 1 woman who needs a van for practical purpuses useful advice would be helpful :P
I would definitely get a sprinter if I ever got a van.
I dunno if they are available in Ireland but definitely this. That is a nice vehicle for work related things. It is tall enough in the back for you to stand straight, but isn't as big as say, a fedex truck.
JebusUD on
and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say

Sprinters are popular for a reason. Service back up is excellent and a lot of repair/service shops plan their facilities around "can I fit a LWB High Roof Sprinter in here?"
Another good option is the Renault Master. They're built and serviced by Renault Trucks, not the same Renault that does the cars. A lot of people rate them as being as good as a Sprinter but cheaper to run, and if you need anything custom-built on to them there are Renault commercial vehicle specialists everywhere because of the popularity of Theault vehicles with people into horses. There are supposedly some good finance deals around as well.
A good rule of thumb, apparently, is when looking at big vans, look at vehicles that are also available with a 7.5 ton Luton body (even if you aren't buying one), as they tend to be better than stretched, high roof versions of smaller vans.
(I do not drive a van but work for a commercial insurer, so spend a lot of time talking about them with people that run fleets)
EDIT: Oh, and a minor point, but the Renault Trafic/Vauxhall Vivaro (same vehicle) has a really low rear bumper and big, fragile, rear doors. It makes them easy to load which is often cited as a selling point but they're a pig to secure because you can pop the rear doors out of their frames with a length of scaffold pole. On top of that, if anything hits it in the rear, even at quite low speed, it will almost certainly ride over the rear bumper and distort both rear doors. Fixing that means two new rear doors and all their associated hardware, which is about £1200 worth of parts, then you need to add labour and paint.
Thanks guys its defiantly either a sprinter or a vito (vito due to my small stature, sprinter if it works out well with my vertically challenged self when i test drive both models)
My issue with finding a suitable vehicle is i am only familiar with Mitsubishi, Suzuki (both very good experiences with cars and jeeps) and Nissan (not so great experiences with a car thats currently breaking my heart)
if you do get a van, here are some ideas on how to paint it linky
And honey, this is a nice idea if i was starting a death metal band, but im going to go with a solid color (probably black) and get one of those magnetic signs for vans and trucks you get like my uncle has for his company.
Most people are claiming to get around 30-40mpg with the Vito. I remember my ex-band mate had a sprinter to carry around all our equipment (drums/amps etc) and the mpg wasn't very good. I don't know what it was exactly, but I can say it wasn't near 35.

Yeah, something about them just seems cool. Aside from being 'rolling probable cause,' that is.
Link to .ie M-B Sprinter site.
edit: 'kerb weight'. So close, yet so far.

Come on, we all know that there's only one classy way to paint a van:
