Now, Drum Hero. There's something that would work pretty well I imagine.

Well, Harmonix was let go of Guitar Hero. Now they are free to do another game. Me thinks they've thought of this already.

Didn't Activision actually acquire Harmonix or am I thinking of something else?

Red Octane got bought. Harmonix is tied to them. Activision sounds about right.

The thing about this is, it's the cheapest way to play a next gen Guitar Hero game, and GH is one of those games where next gen graphics are just about the least important thing you could bring up. It's a huge point in the gameplay vs. graphics argument.

Ah yes, Red Octane getting bought by Activision must have been what that was. And yeah, I'm looking forward to this for the exact same reason basically. I have never actually played Guitar Hero but always thought it looked really cool and am now in ownership of a Wii. So yeah, hooray!

Also, I just thought I'd add that Drum Hero, while it was something I thought would be cool at one point, would probably suck. The Wiimotes are heavy, large, and if you think Wii Sports killed some equipment wait until people try to use them as drumsticks. If they designed actual drumsticks for the game, it would probably end up being absurdly expensive (because they'd basically have to be Wiimotes, but smaller...and there'd be two...or at least one and a nunchuk...so $60+).

So yeah, it's one of those things that seems cool until you really think about it at all.

But all this talk of Guitar Hero on the Wii, on the other hand, has given me an erection. A raging one.

Heavy? Large? What the fuck? Did your arms atrophy or something?

In comparison to drumsticks, jackass.

And yeah, it's the size issue more than the weight. It'd just be awkward.

I mean, unless you're playing some absurdly slow drum solos, the Wiimote isn't going to work all that well here. Not to mention that their motion sensing capabilities don't seem to be quite as accurate as some people think they are.

You'd probably have like five targets up on the screen, and you'd be waving the crosshairs across each one in time with the beat marks floating up the screen, as they cross each target. For this purpose, a significantly more basic wiimote could be used, it wouldn't need a lot of the additional functionality included in the normal wiimote. They could probably both be manufactured for a much lower price, and packed in for the same price as the normal GH2 guitar bundle.

The GH2 guitar couldn't be significantly more expensive to produce.

Maybe not at as a game in itself, but as another feature to a Guitar Hero game. A position for guitar, bass, and drums.

Also, I would really expect them to be as nimble, light and complex as real drumming, but a water down simulation of drumming. Similar to what the guitar controller is to a guitar.

It seems like all the recent video game news headlines regarding Nintendo have been along the lines of "Games Company X to develop for Nintendo Wii".

Obviously the strong launch and continued selling-out of the console has prompted a turnaround in developers attitude towards putting out games for the Wii. I would imagine it would have been hard for Nintendo to encourage companys to develop Nintendo-exclusive titles, such as Resident Evil Zero, when the Gamecube had a relatively low number of owners.

Why does it need to add anything? Why are people excited about Guitar Hero II for 360?

At worst it's a version of Guitar Hero that's no different from the others.

Personally, I think it'd be nice if it came with a controller that you plug a Wiimote into for wireless and tilt sensing. Then you get a reliable tilt sensor and a wireless guitar.

That would be sweet. A guitar that you slide your remote into.

I don't really know what they would do with the motion sensing...

Maybe you could smash your guitar? Pull off flashy stunts while playing like whipping the guitar around your body?

Well, it would be used for Star Power. But they could extend the Star Power mechanic to actually sense more than just simple tilting of the guitar. Perhaps holding the guitar upright for the duration of Star Power gives you triple points or something. They could at least have the on-screen Guitar Hero mimic your Star Power movements.

Even without waggle, Wiitar Hero would rock so hard

In the other thread I had the idea for Nintendo songs, playable Nintendo characters, and maybe a "best of" series of songs from GH1 and GH2 (if not a new batch of songs entirely) so the game doesn't end up like DDR Mario Mix

Maybe add Nintendo-inspired guitars, like one with the SMB flagpole for a neck and a body shaped like a koopa shell, or one with a Poke Ball body

Hey, if they release a Wii version of GH, and had the guitar utilize the wiimote by plugging it into the guitar, it would accomplish two things:

    1. make the guitar wireless
    2. reduce the cost of the guitar (by not having to include wireless, or a tilt sensor)

Otherwise it could be the exact same guitar peripheral.

Anyway, more guitar heroes on more systems = more awesome all around.

They need to have it were you can navigate the pointer and hold the guitar at the same time. They could make a game on rails, like House of the Dead, instead of shooting people, you melt their fucking faces.

Guitar Hero does not need motion functionality, beyond Star Power. Remote-insert shell = cheap wireless guitar, doesn't even need accelerometers. That's enough of a perk. Don't fix what isn't broken.

No, more along the lines of playing guitar hero exactly as it is, except with zombie face-melting or something. At the same time.

Wii discs are (currently) only 4gb in size, so hoping for a combination of GH1 and GH2 songs seems unlikely (unless multiple discs or bonus songs removed).

However, I can't wait for this. I'll undoubtedly buy it if only because my PS2 (or Guitar Hero console as it should be known) is upstairs in my bedroom and my wii is on my main tv.

Even if they couldn't find a way to fit it all on a 4 GB disc, the Wii is supposed to support dual-layer discs. Both GH games would easily fit on 8.5 GB.

It depends on the level of integration. If it's something like DDR Mario Mix, which had everything saturated with Mario-ness, then I'd agree. But if it's unobtrusive and very tangential, like the Mario characters in SSX On Tour (still a wipe of a game, though) or Link in SCII, then I don't see the problem.

Besides, as much as I like the concept of picking characters in Guitar Hero, I barely have time to even look at the backgrounds while playing anyway.
