So my mom just got her fancy new ipad, which she constantly attests to loving. The thing is, she doesn't know much about computers and I know jack about ipads and such. For this Mother's Day, I was going to gift her an app or two. Can you recommend me some good apps that might might open up her ipad experience a bit?

These are the things I have installed on my Mom's iPad:

    Kindle- Amazon's book reading software.
The Weather Channel- We live in Alabama so we pay a lot of attention to the weather
Twitter- She doesn't have an account, but enjoys reading the trending now topics
    Friendly- Facebook App
Kodak Gallery- This is where our recent family photos are stored online
Flipboard- Really neat App if you configure it to her interests
    Netflix

    Games:
    Scrabble
    Solitaire
    Whirly Word

She's kind of a news buff so I have a ton of stuff like NPR, CNN, CBSNews on there.

Most of these are free except for the games. Perhaps if you listed some of her interests or hobbies, someone could suggest some suitable paid apps.

One thing you might think about getting her in the future is an airprint compatible printer.

If she is a newish knitter then I absolutley love the Knitting Help app. It is all of her videos in an easy to locate what you need app. Or even if she is a fairly good knitter it has all sorts of good videos on technique and shows most things in the 2 most popular styles.

I also really like Stanza paired with Calibre on my computer (though iOs4+ I beleive can use stanza without Claibre for content managment and serving, you can use itunes for that) For an ereader. It hadles all formats well and is in some way far superior to iBooks.

The three most used apps on my mom's Ipad are Angry Birds, Soduku, and Solitaire.

I should put Friendly on my Mom's iPad. She's used to the Facebook app on iPhone and she's not used to using the website instead. She asked me like 3 times already where her notifications are. Is the friendly app pretty similar to the Facebook iPhone app?

Airprint Printer is a great gift idea.

    My mom's ipad has:
    Kindle
    Netflix
Amazon Window Shop - a great visual way to browse Amazon, way less cluttered than the website
    BBC News
iHome Alarm (weather/alarm clock, there's a ton of apps like this)
SpringPad - note taking app that syncs online, can use on iPad, iPhone, and web browser. Has a bunch of features she'll probably never use though.

I want to set her up with a nice RSS aggregation app - any recommendations?
Also, what's the best e-zine for iPad?

If she's into news download Zite. It's an app that creates an evolving, personalized magazine for you based on your topics of interest. I really like it.

Tiny wings is great too, plus Carcassone if she likes cool board games at all.
