Yeah treat spheres like a series of circles laid on top of each other, not as an actual sphere.

That's damn near impossible unless you've memorized how to voxelize spheres. You're going to need an external program, if only to provide the blueprints.

I suggest Minecraft Structure Planner. Quite easy to get the hang of and it tells you how much of each resource you're going to need.

EDIT: Warlock, it's not QUITE so simple, if I recall correctly from my sphere-building. Sometimes you're going to have points where it doesn't always go in a block. It's much easier to just use blueprints in my experience.

IDK, I'm a professional artist, so I've got that going for me.

    Art Degree gogo.

But anyway, library is almost done, just wrapping up the furnishings. Takes a long time to make this many book cases.

Up next: either the clock tower, the lighthouse, or working on the dock area for my city.

When its wrapped up I'll be glad to.

I haven't done a project of this scale before, so I'm rather excited.

In some ways its still a demo for future efforts, like it has an early version of what will be the clock for my clock tower and such.

If it's perfectly spherical it is. As long as you define the diameter beforehand, it's easy. Just fill in the empty space, 1 block thick, moving higher as you go (as styro said, smaller and smaller circles).

If it's not symetrical you'll have to figure something else out though.

Sorry I missed the great staircase debate while I was at work today. I really should have brought my phone.

Bottom line: stairs suck. Straight ones are boring, spirals are dizzying. I demand elevators.

All my mining efforts have a 3 high stack of water at the bottom for fast/safe descent, and long tedious ladders back up. 52 deep, 2 wide. There's my mining footprint. But it's such a slow trip back up.

If pistons become official, has anyone figured out a way to fire yourself up out of a vertical mine?

Bottom bottom line, I miss my water elevators...

edit: because I'm a writer dammit, and writers edit.

I doubt it, if they behave at all like the existing pistons they won't be powerful enough.

Googling 'voxel sphere' should see you towards finding a way of making spheres in Minecraft.

How about a staircase of pistons? Getting out of your mine has never been so much like playing mario ;)

It does have cons but they aren't that bad. Lag is going to be about the same with a small map as it is with a large map, since the map file changes a couple of months ago. Its based on loaded chunks so if 4 people are in completely different areas on a small map, you'll have the same amount of chunks loaded as with a huge map. The downsides are the file sizes start to get exponentially bigger. For example the SE++ map is 1.2GB, causing renders to take hours to do.

The new islands map we started is 3.85GB and god its annoying. I really wish I made it smaller but I am stuck with it now.

We may have found a server that can adequately support both G&T and SE++. They're giving us a 3-day trial with a 20-man cap for the moment. I would appreciate people joining just so we can stress test this and give it a proper workout.

I have a piston elevator. You have to hold left and right and hit buttons, so it's not really automated, and sometimes you just die, but it's pretty cool.

I joined up to this to take a look and it appears I spawned at the bottom of the ocean just far enough down that I can't swim to the top before I run out of air and health.

there is a little secrete hole on the side of the island you can swim into. Only thing is I can't seem to collect any stone for some reason (maybe lag?). This is my first time trying a multiplayer server so maybe I don't have permission yet?

New Industrial Craft is out - it's pretty fantastic. If you haven't tried it yet, do so.

To the IC veterans out there, has anyone run into a problem when placing batteries into a Solar Generator? For whatever reason, it's just not accepting them. Perplexing.

We need guys to help us stress test again. We weren't able to get as many as we needed last night. If you've got some free time come on in and help us out.

The server has the Rapture map up at the moment, so if you haven't seen it or were ever curious come on by and check it out. Or if you're just nostalgic.

You spawn underwater. So use /warp lighthouse

Also the server may be down if we're fixing something, so just try again a minute later. It doesn't stay down long.
