Well, there was rumours about both Krueger and Jason long before the game was released. Original plan was to release them to celebrate Halloween. So dunno. Perhaps they thought that game wouldn't have enough market awaresness left october to make that viable.

You know, the way the Netherealms works I wouldn't be surprised if the initial rumors weren't true at all and they then decided to add him after hearing the rumors.
Jackie Earle Haley Freddy was a horrible idea. The NOES remake was awful. Not to mention this is one instance where the "DLC characters never speak" thing doesn't make any sense at all.
I love A Nightmare On Elm Street. Part of the reason why is that Freddy was such a memorable villain with so much personality. When every other slasher villain like Jason and Mike Myers was just a lumbering behemoth hiding behind a mask, Freddy had a fully emotive face with smart use of burn makeup making it so that Robert Englund could do things like laugh, smile and mug while wearing a face that looked absolutely ghastly. This along with his Englund's slim build (Freddy's not a giant who breaks down walls and dumbly swings around a machete, he's fast and lanky and freaking chases you through your nightmares, which is way scarier) along with the charm and charisma that Englund brought to Freddy's character are what make the original Nightmare On Elm Street interesting decades after their original run. I'm even willing to forgive some of the really bad ones from the 80s because a) they serve as appealing cheesy portrayals of quintessential 80s pop culture and b) because the later movies are when Freddy was really allowed to let loose with the one-liners and creative kills.
He's not just some burned dude with razor claws. That's not the point.
And I just noticed now he has claws on both hands.... what the hell?!
Seriously, it's like they've never seen the friggin movies. Freddie isn't going to go into a stand up fight with trained killers. He's gonna wait till they're asleep then skullfuck them to death in their dreams.
I mean, the dude gets schooled by sleep deprived high school kids at the end of every damn movie. How's he going to stand up to a friggin ninja?
Visual accuracies and motivations aside, the biggest omission I see is his lack of voice. Freddy needs to talk.
Seems sorta cool to play as though, and if I bought the season pass I don't think I'd be disappointed. I decided to wait, though, so I think I'll grab Rain and Kenshi and be done with it.

Quick guys let's spread rumors about Ashley J. Williams being a DLC character.

He isn't even supposed to HAVE powers unless he's occupying a dream. So I guess everyone he's fighting in MK9 is asleep all of the time?

In Freddy vs Jason Freddy was a fucking ninja. He was jumping like Jackie Chan and slicing like Wolverine. THAT Freddy is capable of going toe to toe with some of the MK crew.
you seem to be getting legitimately frustrated at the circumstances of a silly guest character
There's nothing wrong with that. Having Freddy means NOT having a legitimate Mortal Kombat character. He bumped out many other characters that people really wanted.
Personally I don't care too much, I'm not frustrated *I have long since accepted Bo' Rai Cho won't be DLC* and everyone else I like is in. But I can't blame people who are pissed.

I'm kind of pissed because I bought the Season Pass under the assumption that I would be getting four Mortal Kombat characters. I am now regretting this decision. It seriously would not have killed them to advertise that the fourth character would not be a Mortal Kombat character.
I don't have a problem with it being a non-MK character. I've just never been a horror-movie guy, so those characters don't hold any meaning for me. I'll probably end up caving in though.
Season pass was $15 dollars right? Each character was $5. So at least you didn't lose any money in comparison to buying all the MK characters separately.

Who was the dude he did the down to hell fatality on?
Kabal, jacked up in his alternate costume.... I'm pretty sure it was his alt.
While I'm a huge NoES dork, non-Robert Englund version pisses me off, that's not a knock on Jackie Earl. But come on, at least you could have gotten Robert to voice the character. Probably cheaply too.
OMG this is the freaking best! How can anyone not love Freddy in this game?!? Hell this would make my *wife* play MK just because we loved to watch the movies together when we were younger, even if this ones the new version. That trailer has me laughing my ass off!

Okay, I will. Old Freddy has much more personality.
Not like it matters too much. Freddy stopped being relevant around the time of old Freddy anyway. Though, I guess since it new Freddy he won't get old Freddy's witty banter.
I'm not a big fan of freddy bring the 4th DLC kharacter. Never really got into the movies and would have much rather had another MK dude. That being said since I got the season pass I'm sorta stuck and it's not the end of the world.

Why are people bitching that Freddy doesn't make sense in Mortal Kombat or a fighting game in general? If it's fun, who gives a flying fuck if it makes sense? MK isn't exactly known for logic.
Also, so what if he's wearing 2 gloves? Dude can't put on a second glove?
Pretty much all the decent MK fighters are already in the game. Did people cry about Kratos being in over other MK characters? I don't get it. Everyone just shut up and enjoy this. It is hilarious.
I think the double glove thing is so they wouldn't have to pull a Capcom and make his claw teleport to his other hand whenever he's on the right side of the screen like Vega's does.
Personally, I think he fits in the game better than Kratos does. His story is basically a mix of Scorpion's and Noob's except he's a criminal instead of a ninja. If Freddy didn't exist and NRS made a character with this exact background, nobody would bat an eye about his inclusion.
The current theory is apparently if Freddy sells well enough then WB will greenlight NRS to do another 4-pack of characters on the condition that one of them is Jason (since all the original rumors specified Freddy and Jason).

I don't think that works because of the combination of the silly change stance thing and that the punch buttons are differentiated between which arm is in the front and back.

Er... people can have different opinions than you?
And I feel justified in being annoyed because there was no indication of this before hand and I've already paid for it. Even though I've only paid the price for three characters, I still put forth my money early on under the assumption I would get four MK characters, which I do not feel was an unreasonable assumption. I really don't care if they release Freddy, but I honestly wish they would have done it as a fifth character unrelated to the season pass. That way people who put their money down early but don't give two fucks about Nightmare on Elm Street would not be left in the cold for supporting the game.
I mean, it's not unreasonable for people to be less than satisfied with Freddy either. Mortal Kombat fans do not necessarily have a high chance of coinciding with horror movie fans. Sure, some people will be fans of both, but many will not be. Like, I'm obviously a Warhammer 40K fan. I would be psyched for Ahriman or some other big name from the setting to be introduced as a character. I also realize that most people wouldn't give two shits about them.
I hate to be confrontational, but I do feel it's sort of goosey to tell other people to shut up or deal with it. They have ever right to voice their displeasure just as you have every right to be psyched for it.
The outrage on a lot of MK forums is hilarious. It almost makes up for how terribly obnoxious all the Rain fanboys were the last few months.
I really don't see any downside here. He's optional, he's going to sell better than any of the remaining MK characters ever would have, and anybody who bought the Season Pass didn't get screwed because it's the exact same price they would have paid to download the 3 characters they already got.

All in all disappointing, Freddy could be cool but all of his moves seem boring as fuck (with the exception of the boiler fatality).
But he's better than Tanya

Yeah, that's a nice consolation. Just still wish they would have given a real indication of this before hand.
