Pretty much all the decent MK fighters are already in the game. Did people cry about Kratos being in over other MK characters? I don't get it. Everyone just shut up and enjoy this. It is hilarious.

And I feel justified in being annoyed because there was no indication of this before hand and I've already paid for it. Even though I've only paid the price for three characters, I still put forth my money early on under the assumption I would get four MK characters, which I do not feel was an unreasonable assumption. I really don't care if they release Freddy, but I honestly wish they would have done it as a fifth character unrelated to the season pass. That way people who put their money down early but don't give two fucks about Nightmare on Elm Street would not be left in the cold for supporting the game.
I mean, it's not unreasonable for people to be less than satisfied with Freddy either. Mortal Kombat fans do not necessarily have a high chance of coinciding with horror movie fans. Sure, some people will be fans of both, but many will not be. Like, I'm obviously a Warhammer 40K fan. I would be psyched for Ahriman or some other big name from the setting to be introduced as a character. I also realize that most people wouldn't give two shits about them.

I guess I'll be the minority vote here, but I'm absolutely stoked about Freddy's inclusion. It makes sense to me as a DLC character because you've got the ability to just not purchase it if you don't want him, whereas his inclusion in the full game would have made far less sense (since he obviously would have had no part in the Story Mode).
Fuck yeah, bring him on. And if Jason is revealed, I'll buy that one too.
Edit: and yeah, two gloves ain't canonical but I honestly couldn't care less. Also the blood gout fatality is great and hearkens back to one of the best scenes in the original film.

The outrage on a lot of MK forums is hilarious. It almost makes up for how terribly obnoxious all the Rain fanboys were the last few months.
I really don't see any downside here. He's optional, he's going to sell better than any of the remaining MK characters ever would have, and anybody who bought the Season Pass didn't get screwed because it's the exact same price they would have paid to download the 3 characters they already got.
I gotta agree... I can't think of ANY remaining Mortal Kombat character that would assuredly outsell Freddy. Save Goro or Khan... but they're in an odd position.

I know I was always annoyed as fuck when having to fight Yoda in Soul Calibur, it really got under my skin. Freddy is a slightly better fit in the MK universe than Yoda was though.
True enough, I hadn't considered that. Hopefully enough people will get past it or frankly only play as him during less serious matches against friends or whatever, since he didn't seem (from the video at least) to be a terribly dangerous fighter, unlike Kenshi who just ruins shit from anywhere on the screen.

Freddy seems like a neat guest character. I wish it was more jovial asshole Englund style though, but I guess the look is close enough I can just pretend.
Honestly seeing that he is the final character made me want to buy the season pass right now so I could have him right when he releases. I am pretty damn excited by this.

I don't believe them releasing DLC period is something to consider lucky, the only reason we don't see that in fighters more often is because it's not a huge thing in Japan, and that's where most fighting games are developed. And he's certainly not a bonus fourth character, as that would presume that I was definitely going to buy all the characters anyway. I probably would have taken a wait and see approach with Skarlet, as she looked boring (and as I discovered after downloading her, I find her boring to play). I just bought them all under the assumption that with four MK characters, and two I was almost certainly going to like, that I could deal with two I wasn't particularly excited for at 2.50 a pop. But Freddy? I don't like horror movies, I hate his design, and his gameplay looks boring. I don't think he's worth that 2.50.

For example, picture your character facing the screen at all times, standing to the left of your opponent Front Punch would = left arm, standing to the right of your opponent Front Punch would = right arm. Clearly this fucks shit up if you have a weapon only on one hand.

I am not, I repeat, not happy with this character choice. It is a complete waste of a roster spot for the game, made doubly so by not doing anything interesting with the character either. They did the bare minimum with the design of Freddy and didn't even allow the asymmetrical claw mechanic that should've been implied. Why on earth we couldn't make a nightmare-based character a little more unconventional in his attacks and style...if we MUST have him.
I guess I thought the Fear 3 Guy or Cyber Smoke made a shit-tonne more sense than this.

Well, in all unfairness, Paxton Fettel could've been fairly cool. He's not actually a standard FPS guy. I'm not even sure he uses guns. Via the Wiki:
Paxton Fettel is a cannibal and is seen throughout F.E.A.R. devouring the remains of his victims, he indulges in the primal act not to sustain himself nutritionally, but to apparently absorb people's memories by consuming their flesh...
Fettel's abilities include the ability to hit enemies with a psychic blast attack, and to possess enemies for a period of time. (Paxton has a similar "possession" meter, like Point Man's "slow-mo" meter) He can keep his meter up by gathering the souls of dead enemies. The possession basically allows him to have two lives with different abilities. If Fettel is 'killed' while possessing a body the body will be destroyed and he will lose all of his possession meter but still have full health. Fettel also has a melee and levitate attack. He can instantly kill enemies (except Phase Commandos) by either using melee from behind or by using melee while levitating them and being in close proximity. This is very useful for scavengers who are too fast and too durable to be adequately dealt with using 'Fettel blasts.'
Ironically, Fettel bears several similarities to Harlan Wade who he hates and fears. He is an elitist, seeing little value in the lives of those who aren't enhanced like his family. He shows no remorse for any of his crimes and killings and blames Harlan for making him a monster. Both Fettel and Harlan want to bring together the family to be 'Gods among men'
OK Freddy has pushed me over the edge. Game has reduced price, time to pick it up.

Personally I'm okay with Freddy being in the game. Rumours were circulating before Skarlet came out of a possible Freddy/Jason in Mortal Kombat as DLC thing coming our way and I found myself suprised by my initial reaction - Jason's movelist would suck. But Freddy? I dunno guys, there's a world of possibility there. And look at his fighting style in the trailer - it's very uncoordinated. Very brutal. It doesn't have the finesse of the other characters, save for Kano.
I'm excited. Not so much for Freddy because I'm more of a Jason fan, but because it may indeed pave the way for Jason to show up.
Two gloves though? Also poop remake face instead of classic, wat?(eight hojillion dollars says there'll be a classic costume DLC)
Also, don't Freddy's supernatural abilities only work in the "dream world". Like, in Freddy vs Jason, when they brought him out to the real world to fight the menacing mongoloid, he was a good fighter but he didn't have any tricks.

My only other problem with Freedy is it is not the Original version but the new one. The 80's version of Freddy was more mennacing and fun to watch compared to the new one. Hopefully there is an ALT that is the older one complete with voice over.

It's likely a licensing agreement. It would have been great fan service to have the original Freddy, but I imagine the holders of the Freddy IP want to promote the new Freddy as much as possible.

It's been mentioned before by me and others that due to the back punch forward punch system they have it makes it hard to do one glove. Basically whenever you change stance the glove would have to teleport between hands. It would be very jarring. If it wasn't for that they could simply do what SF does with Vega.
I don't have a hard time believing that if Freddy knew he was gonna be entering a fighting tournament, he might hook himself up another glove. He's a crafty dude.

I mean, they put so much work making all of Kratos' moves match his items and abilities from God of War 3. Why not do the same for Freddy?
It's likely a licensing agreement. It would have been great fan service to have the original Freddy, but I imagine the holders of the Freddy IP want to promote the new Freddy as much as possible.
