As for ATI fixes, beyond playing with drivers that are currently out and using custom configs like the one I posted a while ago, I haven't heard of whether a new fix is pending or not (there's a ton of speculation out there, but nothing concrete). I plan on rolling back back my drivers a bit and playing more with custom config settings to see if I can regain some of that lost visual fidelity while still maintaining a good framerate. Or at least I could maybe squeeze a few more FPS out of my config
I, for one, appreciate your work so far. I'm gonna roll back to... 11.5, I think.
Do you know what CAP 1 versions of the drivers are? I see Rage3D just posed 11.5 CAP 1?
also, someone referred to this as being helpful to retain shadows: r_useOptimizedShadows "1"
also r_shadows 0 seeing as there's apparently no way to turn them off in the menus? o_O
I'll have to try these cusom cfgs as there is no way I can comfortably play this online with an avg 20fps and those nasty, nasty grout lines x__x
keep in mind not all ATI cards are having issues. i have had no problems on my 5770
Yeah, a few ATI cards seem to run ok, and for many people "ok" is entirely relative. The only thing that seems to be consistent are the grid lines that 4xxx cards experience.
The question I've asked in every FPS ever will be asked again:
What is the purpose of the light machine guns? ... CoD just makes them rifles with more ammo and no damage drop or bonus. In this they are just bad sub machine guns (+drum mag).
Wait, what? Light Machine Guns are nothing like SMGs in Call of Duty. The biggest advantage LMGs have going for them is that, like Sniper Rifles, they don't suffer damage degradation over long ranges. That's huge. They also have innately higher bullet penetration values. You suffer a speed penalty while you're carrying them around (ProTip: Switch to your pistol while you're on the move), but you shouldn't be moving around a whole lot; LMGs are point-defense overwatch weapons. They perform that role in Call of Duty perfectly. Unfortunately, you don't see a lot of players who do anything in CoD but run n' gun, so you don't often see LMGs utilized, and when you do, they're using them all fucking wrong.
If anyone is on the fence about this game w.r.t. minimum requirements, I have a laptop with an Nvidia 9800 GTS, Intel Core 2 Duo, and 4Gb of ram and the game runs fine in 1440x900. Above 30fps with the autodetected settings, and motion blur turned off (I think it looks bad).
EZ-Nade is pretty bad. Sure you can launch a bunch of grenades very quickly, but they have a tiny blast radius, do little damage, and if you direct impact someone it doesn't knock them down.
The Lobster on the other hand will knock someone down on direct impact... and most likely bounce straight up and land next to them, then blow up right as they get up (and kill them). It's increased blast radius makes it awesome at knocking down groups of enemies. It also has the benefit of being a medium weapon, so you can use the awesome MGs as your primary.
Yes. The Lobster is tremendously effective, and it's really the only thing keeping me from switching my Medic from Medium to Light. I think it's actually more powerful and utilitarian than people realize. I use it in every game, and I'm afraid if I switch out for something else, we won't do as well. Frankly, it knocks people over like they're bowling pins, which is super useful: Soldier about to plant an HE Charge on your door? Use the Lobster!; Heavy charging down that corridor with his Gatling spinning up? Use the Lobster (repeatedly)!; Group of enemies clustered up on a position?; Use the Lobster!
It's really good.
The only issue is that you've only got 4 shots, and you have to load each grenade manually. So I stick to my Soldiers like glue, which is what I should be doing anyway. I usually get myself stuck onto a Heavy Soldier like Tridus, and we keep each other buffed on the front lines. It works really well, and I'm very happy with our overall performance thus far.
I can't wait until we start heading into Versus matches again.
If I fail my English exam tomorow im blaiming Brink. Definatly not blaming my self. Its in no way my fault I decided to do f'all revision...black magic I tell ya!
Cmon only 30 more mins and its BRINK TIME!
Edit: Echo have you phoned them. (I know its too late now) but buger emails the phone is way more persuasive. Get angry!
If you download their Comrade bloatware you can see you have two keys. Use the second one and you can finally wait for another hour because it's not released on Steam yet. Hurrah.
So hey, how do I actually use the Psycho Pack code that I just got?
... There's no way to actually input it.
Go to "Add a Game -> Activate Product on Stream."
Also, the Machine Guns in this game are terrible. The SMG's can kill you faster almost every time. The mini gun can be good in the right situation but only if you're defending some sort of objective in a small space.
With the small, close quarters map, SMG's rule this game.

How much cheaper were D2D offering Brink than Steam? I've never used them so I didn't even look.
I bought it at their 25% off sale last weekend (so $37.5).
Unfortunately, D2D blows. No, I'm not going to contact customer service because your system doesn't want to "save" my credit card or some bullshit because I'm trying to make a purchase. It's like they didn't want to take my money or something.

Giving this a shot before I hit submit on my suitably snarky support ticket.

Is Light body type the only one that can do most of the cool parkour moves during combat, like wall running/jumping? It seems like the only parkour I can actually do as a medium body type is climb walls if they're small enough, and box hop. I wanted to like this game, but I can't get over the weird glitches, and the fact that in order to have access to the cool move sets you have to be defensively weak. (I seriously take 1 shot from a long range shotgun and I'm almost dead.)
I haven't had much time to play though. Is there anything I'm missing?
Don't want to read through the whole thread, but just in case it wasn't mentioned, you can go to https://insiders.bethsoft.com/entry.php and get a free copy of Brink if you work for walmart/bestbuy/target/gametop
If you're a light body type, stop trying to directly engage people. You have access to other ways around. Use them. Get the drop on somebody, or shoot them, sprint off, circle around and finish them off.

How's this run on PC's? I'm trying to decide if I should grab it for 360 or my 2010 MBP. I look fine on the CPU and RAM specs I've seen floating around, but the card is a GeForce GT 330M.
What assault rifles and attachments are people finding to be the best? I'm having a hard time finding one that I feel comfortable with. The Carb on the other hard, I bring death with the Carb.
I'm definitely not directly engaging people. Like I said, I'm getting almost killed by shotgun shots from long range. Most maps don't have a lot of ways around people that don't directly engage, or that medium can't get to. I've found some pretty good spots though, but I'm spending most of the game falling back to heal or get healed.

Yes, exactly. I kept doing that and eventually got it through my thick skull that I need not be in people's faces to survive as a light.
So far with light body type, I've had the best results as an engineer, sprinting circles around the battlefield, periodically popping in to shoost some dudes and/or pop up a new turret or mine.
Much better than running into a choke point and getting insta-killed by a whole team camping a doorway.
Just returned this game after 2 days of frustration. Complete disappointment.
I wanted so badly to like this game, but it's riddled with problems. The lag on the 360 is one of those makes multiplayer almost unplayable...
So that leaves single player. Which I don't mind doing usually... Except the A.I. is terrible!
The friendly A.I. is unhelpful and useless, often letting bad guys RUN PAST THEM when I'm completing an objective. And going after command posts when there's an actual, real objective to get done.
The enemy A.I. (on easy mode) is just too good. As a relatively decent FPS player, I shouldn't completely hit a wall on the second level. If I want a comp stomp to let off some steam (or learn the level layouts), that should be possible, RIGHT?!
I was able to get $45 towards L.A. Noire. But this game deserves all the bad reviews it got... And they should have been worse.

This is why I will never be comfortable playing as light. I'm too much of a front line player, but heavy is still a bit too sluggish for me though. Medium really is a nice sweet spot.

Brink is different only in that what the game calls 'singleplayer' we call 'multiplayer with bots'. If you look at it through singleplayer glasses (think COD, BF, BF:BC, Halo, etc), the bots shouldn't complete the objectives. In other games, all they do is run to their death or pretend like they are helping you. In this game, at least they are focused on actually supporting you (reviving, resupplying, doing the boring objectives like command posts, etc and doing a little killing). And they do that EXTREMELY well. Many times have I run out of ammo to have a bot run up a second later and give me more. They always buff me and always, when nearby, revive me. They do what they should do in singleplayer. If they did more, the game would basically play itself. Who wants that?

If you want a comp stomp, just create a new character. The enemy AI is so dumb and worthless when you are lower rank.

At least for the US, it was $40 or so after taxes with a 25% discount code they had for all upcoming pre-orders a little bit ago.

LMG's are meant as point defense weapons.
