Just returned this game after 2 days of frustration. Complete disappointment.
I wanted so badly to like this game, but it's riddled with problems. The lag on the 360 is one of those makes multiplayer almost unplayable...
So that leaves single player. Which I don't mind doing usually... Except the A.I. is terrible!
The friendly A.I. is unhelpful and useless, often letting bad guys RUN PAST THEM when I'm completing an objective. And going after command posts when there's an actual, real objective to get done.
The enemy A.I. (on easy mode) is just too good. As a relatively decent FPS player, I shouldn't completely hit a wall on the second level. If I want a comp stomp to let off some steam (or learn the level layouts), that should be possible, RIGHT?!
I was able to get $45 towards L.A. Noire. But this game deserves all the bad reviews it got... And they should have been worse.
For the 360 version maybe, but the PC version has none of these issues. The AI is only totally useless when you are doing challenges in my experience (on PC.)
Even review wise if you look at strictly PC reviews they are mostly positive, many hitting the mid to high 80's and above with only a small handful of negative.
the campaign difficulty for bots also affects the difficulty for the challenges. if you want an easier time, on say, Be More Objective, dial it down to easy.
I lost a round in a complete shutout because I was the only human on my team (versus a team with several humans on it) and my entire team wouldn't stop running into the same door and dying the same way...over and over and over again. fucking morons.
i'd run around the map to get at the enemy's side or back, but it didn't fucking matter because nobody could buff or revive me. I'd take out one or two bad guys, then they'd get revived and I'd respawn by cannon-fodder teammates committing suicide repeatedly.
Play with people. Otherwise don't bother.
....but only a few people because otherwise it's a slideshow.
So hey, how do I actually use the Psycho Pack code that I just got?
... There's no way to actually input it.
Go to "Add a Game -> Activate Product on Stream."
Also, the Machine Guns in this game are terrible. The SMG's can kill you faster almost every time. The mini gun can be good in the right situation but only if you're defending some sort of objective in a small space.
With the small, close quarters map, SMG's rule this game.
Agh, the code they sent doesn't seem to work at all.
Also I haven't tried Heavy at all, I should make a new character in a bit...
most hilarious moment yet for me:
playing as a light operative, i was hacking the final door on i think resort? the one in the shopping mall. this place is a bitch to get into and also clear out, let alone to hack all the way. my technique is to start the hack and run into the next room to hack through the wall, still getting 4 bars on the PDA. at around 70% enemies push back in and start clearing out my team. they are running in circles over and over looking for me. i get it to 92% and suddenly i'm spotted by an enemy. instead of dropping the hack and fighting, i stood up and sprinted out the door and then weaved back around. after about 10 seconds of frantic running, jumping and sliding the hack completed right as i was put down.
this. game. fucking. rules.
Given the reviews and likely poor sales... probably quite high!
The only poor reviews I've seen are from chucklegeese who don't do their job. I don't foresee this game have horrible sales either, it just wont click with most of the CoD crowd as in the past we've seen '3l33t CoD gamerz' who apparently are 'FPS Celebs' or something say it sucks.
I'm not a fan of the CoD model usually, so them bitching and moaning only makes me happy.
I go in, get killed, and think "Gotta go kill that dude... wait... I'm a light medic. I'm... I probably can't kill that guy. Shit. Shit! They blew the objective without me I should really be healing!"
When it works, it works so sweet. It's just that it's obvious Splash Damage didn't do nearly enough from-scratch beta testing to see what non-devs would play like.
Geez, the game's only been out roughly three days, Splash Damage says they're doing their best to address the major issues, and people are already saying that Brink is DOOOOOOOMED!!! Give it a little while to get fixed up and hopefully they'll be changing their tunes. Although that means nobody's going to be playing online until then, which kinda sucks.
These bots are literally the worst bots I've had to deal with.
I look forward to doing some challenges with actual people.
Hey dude, sorry I missed your invite had things to do. I def wanna pip it up with ya. Also like many have said, do the 2 star challenges before you do anything else, this includes breathing/eating your next meal. If you dont do it then, it's too late.
Ha no problem. I may have to start up a new character though, the second objective mission is already kicking my ass.
Well, dicked around a bit with making a dood and tried a challenge.
A bit silly that you unlock all items at a set level (apart from challenge stuff). I was hoping you'd shop stuff with your XP instead, so there's more variety in appearance below level 5.
And permanent tattoos/scars. Why did they think that was a good idea in a game where they hype the customization?
Like someone said earlier, it's as if they changed the entire customization system mid-game but left pieces of the old one in.
Installing the game went perfectly, did all the challenges up to the second escort one with 1 try without any hitches and perfect performance and then suddenly the game wouldn't react to my keyboard commands at all. What the hell.
Apparently the game unbound all controls by itself. What the hell.
So why can't I join any internet game at all? Is it just because this game is shit? Because that's the consensus among my friends so far. Since none of us can join any games.
Goddamnit splash damage, people have been making useful lobby interfaces for years now. But apparently you had to try re-inventing the wheel there too instead of just making something that fucking works. Why can't I add a server to my favorites without actually seeing it not full first? Dumb.
Also the AI is just bad, I call bullshit on their excuse that "it gets better if the user doesn't do anything". I tried to do the day security mission and the AI didn't try to hack the final objective once. With 2 minutes left I finally switched over, killed everyone, started the hack, then got rolled by the AI once my team decided I was fine alone with my hacking device and went to a secondary objective.
Two starring be more objective was a pain in my ass. Fucking useless bots. It took me way longer than it should have just because the bots enjoyed watching me get demolished.
Kross SMG is great, i'm enjoying the ROF on it. Even with a silencer is does a decent amount of damage. Also i'm still having a blast fighting bots on hard mode. I find that the AI really cleans up on bad habits in hard mode. Instead of me laying there waiting for a rez, the enemy will gun me down ASAP on the floor. The only bad thing is the unlimited amount of flash nades you have to deal with.
I'm glad i'm playing around with bots because i'm still learning the maps. If I went against a human team I would be lost on what to do or where they could come from. Also playing with bots really helps out getting a feel for what gun works for you. Good games tonight guys and OG quit stealing my clothing style!
I managed to get up to the hacking section of Objective 2 a couple of times. Problem is that the enemies spawn right beside it and the fucking friendly AI doesn't do jack fucking shit.
What I found to be the best part of BMO 2 was placing a hack box, hiding near the command post, getting to 80%, having my team in the courtyard, and then finding that an engineer was blowtorching my hack box.
As my team stood around and watched. What's that guy doing over by those radios? Oh, looks like he's repairing him. That's really helpful of him! Boy, we really misjudged these security guys. I'll say. Hey, where's that last guy on our team?
The spy guy? Probably hiding. He's not helpful at all!

That is not emergent AI, that is bad AI.
Truth. Sometimes they get a stroke of genius and a couple go take a command post, a couple go after secondary objectives, and the others go for the main. Usually they run into walls while enemy bots do instant 180s and shoot you with their ACRs.

Bots this poor are just inexcusable.
I finally pulled it off today by patiently killing all of the enemy bots and then running in circles around the pillar while hacking. For whatever reason, an engineer never got near it.
I just... ran up, put the box down, ran around the corner but stayed in sight, ducked in and out while hacking til I died. someone rezzed me, did it again. Engi got close, ran around to shoot him, then finished it after one more death/rez. Your medics will, at the very least, rez you. Which is nice.

its stupid I had to pretty much win by attrition.
That never ever worked for me. Either the medics never revive me in time or I respawn and the other team already removed the box. It wasn't a matter of attrition more than you fail and have to redo the whole damn thing from 0% again.
I only beat it because I put the box on, hid in a little nook near the box, and the FSM willed the match to have no engineers take the box apart.
All the other 1+2-star challenges I did on the first tries without restarts, but that damn thing took fucking a dozen restarts. I wouldn't have bothered if it not were for the weapons unlocks. Such a godawful challenge.
Well, I've gotten progressively worse over the course of each day. I pretty much equate it to people learning the weapons and how to aim them, whereas my aim has always been rather average. Even when I get the jump on people, either through positioning or mine placement/grenade knockdown, it doesn't matter how buffed I am, 4 outta 5 times, I'm the dead one.
The only way I've been able to maintain a decent XP draw has been by sticking with my team and being a buff bot Med/Eng combo in each game. Ah well.
Don't see this on the UK steam store. I checked earlier in the week and there was a pre order listing. I remember it was 34.99 pounds, but 29.99 if you pre ordered. Now there's no listing at all. Just some trailers. It's only 3 hours into the launch here. So maybe it'll pop up soon.
I finally crack and decide to buy it and it's nowhere to be found.

Well, that and challenges. Tower Defense II can go suck a dick, though at least I'm glad I'll never have to play it again.

Just had a great time on the Cantina with everyone. Clutch last-second defense of the mainframe, Hunter. Your nades rule all.
Goddamn I'm finding the challenges practically impossible. I suck so bad.
