Reccomend Me a Good Dungeon Crawler

Hi guys, I'm in the mood for a good old fashioned Dungeon Crawler. However, I have played Diablo and Torchlight to death and I can't get the Dungeon Siege games to run properly on my shiny new pc. I'm also not interested in Titan Quest. These are the only games I really know of in this genre so please point me in the right direction!

When you Dungeon Crawler, do you mean games like Diablo and Torchlight (which I always considered the Hack N' Slash sub-genre) and not stuff like Wizardry?

Crawl is a nice roguelike to start with. Or was. I don't know what's going on anymore in the newfangled version.

For (nonrandomized) ARPG crawlers, there were some pretty good ones on consoles: Dark Alliance 1/2, D&D Heroes, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (probably want to skip 1 due to performance issues.)

Of those, Dark Alliance 2 is the best.

D&D Daggerdale is coming out soon. Looks promising. There's one called Dungeon Hunter on PS3, but with PSN down that's irrelevant right now.

Obviously you should play Dwarf Fortress Happy Times Adventure Fun Mode.

You can fight people to The Pain.

The Fate games are serviceable. Expect Diablo 1 and not Diablo 2 and you'll be pleased with what you get.

You should also try out Depths of Peril and Din's Curse. They're both fun twists on the genre. Din's Curse is suited more for short bursts of play, Depths of Peril can be confusing at first with the strategy stuff, and it takes way longer to finish. They both have demos, so try them out.

Sacred has some fun times in it and it can be obtained for a fairly decent price at GoG.com.

It's not released yet, but you may want to keep on your eye on Dungeon Siege 3, which sounds like it'll fit your bill more than DS1 and 2.

Epic Dungeon on Xbox 360 indie games is awesome, it's a 'rogue-lite' and pretty easy to clear with some luck on your side

Thanks or the suggestions guys - I'm not too familiar with roguelikes so will have to investigate.
Have Dungeon Siege 3 preordered and have finished Marvel Alliance 2. The other console games might be hard to find.

Also, is there anything meeting this criteria on Steam that I can grab?

    Divine Divinity

It's basically an open world Diablo with a good story and a lot of intentional and unintentional humour. Excellent sound-track too.

Sacred was good, but it had some annoying issues in the Underworld expansion that were never patched. Sacred 2 was great though, at least on 360. I owned it on both 360 and PC, but I could never get into the PC version. The big thing about Sacred 1 & 2 is that the map is static, yet ridiculously huge. Definitely worth checking out if you want hack & slash + exploration.

I should mention that Divinity 2 comes in two flavours: Ego Draconis and The Dragon Knight Saga.

You want the Dragon Knight Saga. It fixes a bunch of things and adds an expansion.

If Sacred 2 was patched with expansion (as best it can be without support) and on Steam I would be in like Flynn on that, I loved it on the 360 before I joined the Master Race.

Other than that, I am in the same boat as you and am just waiting till July for Torchlight 2.

Yeah, Sacred 2 is good fun, as long as you take terrible voice acting and 4th wall breaking jokes in good humour.

I would avoidf this. Dragon Knight Saga is an improvement but the game is basically bullshit combat that you can only win if you explot glitches.

Sacred 2 is the winner. It's a great game but check out forums for known problems and some descriptions of abilities and what not. There's no character re-set and you can easily comepletely screw yourself over. The character customization is pretty ridiculously deep.

Do you own a PS3? When the PSN gets back up you should look into Dungeon Hunters: Alliance. It's actually a really good game for $12. I just finished it last night (with the max level of 75) with my wife and we had a great time with it!

Didn't he already play Torchlight tho? The two games are pretty much the same except Torchlight has more stuff to do.

If he's played Torchlight, and this is a different game in the same vein, I can't see why he wouldn't enjoy this one. :P

I put well over 1000 hours into Diablo 2, about 50 hours into Torchlight, and probably close to 40 hours into DH:A. They are all different enough if you want to just do some looting and killing.

    Not really.

However you do need to exploit the fuck out of exploding arrows to make it stupid easy. :P

Also you actually do need to do all the side-quests and fortress raids to gain the necessary levels to complete the game.

Also this game is actually surprisingly glitch-free, which kinda impressed me.

Yeah, after finding Divinity 2 ridiculously hard as an archer I switched to a two hander for my Ego Draconis attempt and it was all niiiiiiiiice and smooth. I kicked plenty of ass and finished the original game no problem. Sort of lost steam half the way through the expansion content though.

Alot of good suggestions in this thread that I won't retread.

I saw Dark Alliance 2 recommended as the best ARPG for PS2? I suppose opinions are all well and good but now I have to bring up the Champions of Norrath games. While certainly not perfect, if you're able to find both (or -if you're only going to have one- the second) you should find them enjoyable. One of the only games where you can import your character from the first game into the second.

Personally I thought they were a touch better than the Dark Alliance games, but back then it didn't matter, Diablo freaks played both ;)

Thanks guys - I will check out that Dungeon Hunters: Alliance. It looks ok but probably not as polished as Torchlight. I actually fired up Torchlight again last night and started to get into it. I think what turns me off coming back to the game though is the fact that it just looks too cartooney.

Have played the shit out of Borderlands and love it

Darkspore? I have heard of that but don't know a lot about it. Will go check out a Youtoob vid :)
