I moved into a new place, and it's pretty nice except my upstairs neighbor smokes pot on occasion. I wouldn't have a problem except whatever he smokes smells very strongly, and somehow escapes into my apartment. I already talked to him about it, and he agreed to do something, I'm not sure what he's doing but it does help.
However, I still get invaded by it sometimes. And the smell really tends to linger in my place. I got it out one day by opening up 4-5 windows and airing out the house, but in the Houston summer, that's not a very good option. Febreeze only works for a few minutes, and leaves the strong Febreeze scent in the air instead. Candles cover it up while they burn, but they don't really get rid of it. I was thinking about getting some kind of electric air purifier appliance, but I don't know anything about them. I don't have allergies or anything so I've never used one before. Is there a certain type that is good for getting rid of smells, particularly smoke-type smells? A quick look on Amazon shows they run from $50 up to $300, not sure what I get as I pay more money.
This site seems to have a pretty good list of different brands of air filters, and there are customer reviews too. http://www.air-purifiers-america.com/
I'm very allergic to most furry woodland creatures that all kids (and wives) love to bring home..
we put one of these in the room where cat #1's litter box is and it didn't bother me at all.
We have another one in our living room and you wouldn't even know we had pets at all.
We bought my mother one as well, and you cant tell she smokes (cigs).. she used to drag the smell in with her clothes and it would make her house smell stale, not anymore.
YMMV, but for what its worth we love both our Xl's (same as the above link, just 3 years old)
I'm sure if it can get rid of the ammonia odor of cat piss, and my mom's cigarette smell, it'll work for you.
Some Anecdotal evidence here, but I have a couple of those Alen Paralda air purifiers and they seem to do a really good job of both getting rid of any latent odors and also helping with the hair my cats leave behind. YMMV though.
