The vibe seems more dark than I would want but we'll see.

I really just want a fun Spider Man movie. Two is the closest Raimi got.

God damn it is impossible to have any sort of interest in anything and not be spoiled anymore.

Just trying to get reviews and some hype for Cap, today I had the post credits scene content spoiled, a Bucky thing spoiled from an interview with the actor about playing Bucky, and an actress who I had no idea appeared in Cap spoiled.

    god damn internet!

    Watch before it gets removed.

And with it removed, the Amazing Spider-Man teaser is up here for now. Grainy as balls though.

Dude, reading reviews and hype is like the best way to get yourself spoiled. You have to AVOID reading about the title to avoid spoilers. Shit, I often will quit posting in a thread on this forum between release and when I see the movie (or play the game, whatever) just to avoid spoilers.

Oh I know, I do it to myself absolutely.

I just am so excited, and try reading little things and I dont have the willpower.

Im glad that the things that I had spoiled though I really no context to - just a general "This person will be there" and other things. Just confirmations of suspicions.

As much as I fucking loathe my movies being spoilered... spoiled?... I'm not really too pissed when I read details leaked about movies adapted from literature.

Especially comics, where the story you're gonna see is either their origin, which you've encountered hundreds of times in numerous forms, or is probably going to be awful.

So I guess Hollywood is almost done with 80's properties, and they're moving on to the 90's?

You know what I'd really like to see is a Ms. Marvel movie. They really need to shake up the boys' club that the superhero movie genre is right now.

I'd have to wait to see how the Avengers pan out but Ms. Marvel is kinda tied to the Kree and Captain Marvel, so wouldn't they have to establish them first?

  • Centipede DamascusCentipede Damascus Registered User regular
They could always alter her origin a bit. Have her come into contact with the Cosmic Cube and have that give her her powers maybe.

  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Registered User regular
Yeah, but I thought the whole reason she named herself Ms. Marvel was because of Captain Marvel, who in turn is named that because his real name is Mar-Vell. (Though that might be my inexperience bleeding through)

  • Centipede DamascusCentipede Damascus Registered User regular
Well it is, but they don't really have to do it that way for a movie. I could totally see Nick Fury naming her "Miss Marvel" with a little bit of a sarcastic inflection.

Yep. It's been twenty years. I have high school classmates with kids in middle school.

As for Ms. Marvel, I figure whatever that Avengers cartoon origin story is for her would be fine. But since the movies are by all appearances the Ultimate Universe, I'm not holding my breath anymore than I would for Ultimate Carol to get super powers.

  • MastaPMastaP Registered User regular
The Avengers Cartoon uses Captain Marvel as part of her Origin, and will probably be a part of the episode where she gets her name too.

  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Registered User regular
Just saw some screencaps from the leaked Avengers trailer and apparently there's a huge spoiler for the Movie in them. When it get released for real, you may want to avoid going through it frame by frame
Apparently there's a shot of what looks like Loki wearing a suit with an arc reactor in it.

Ah. Okay, then. I guess I could live with Ultimate Colonel Danvers from what little I've seen of her. Good luck finding a forty-year-old blonde in Hollywood, though.

Come on guys, you know you want January Jones as Ms. Marvel.

But seriously, what about a long haired Charlize Theron? Hmm?

    Sometimes.

    She's 36 and blonde though!

Edit: Obviously not January Jones. Never January Jones. As anyone. Ever again.

Anyway, Ultimate Carol has to be forty-plus due to her rank (or not. It's comics. I'll make that allowance if you like). Ms. Marvel, however, is younger by at least ten years.

Anyway, didn't Charlize Theron also play a superhuman alien in that Will Smith movie, or do we not talk about that movie here?

None of these actresses have the booty for Ms Marvel

Need to get some cheeseburgers in them before they can pull it off

    There is that, too.

There's probably a reason why I don't have a list ready to go that I could just shotgun at you.

  • GankGank Registered User regular
Yeah, Charlize was a stretch. And only valid because I'd basically dropped "can act" from my mental search criteria. I really can't think of anyone I actually want to play that character.

I'm not sure why you think the movies are bound to the Ultimate interpretation. I mean, they use the old TV show origin for the Hulk. :D

The movies are a hodge podge of whatever continuity works best. The reason the ultimate series gets referenced a lot in modern movies is that the ultimate comics were modern interpretations of the characters, and the same reasons that make them good modern interpretations make them good movie interpretations for a modern audience.

I know they're not tied together perfectly, but they certainly feel more like they've got that Ultimate Universe sensibility. I blame Bendis because I always blame Bendis.

Anyway, I agree with Gank. There isn't anyone who really fits.

    Crimsondude on
  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Registered User regular
Like I said, it's about them being modern interpretations. That's where the "ultimate universe" sensibility is coming from.

Still, the only thing that really screams ultimate to me is SHIELD forming the Avengers. Beyond that, everything seems pretty canon neutral.

Holy Cow. Maria Hill and Jimmy Woo are both in the Disney cartoon? That's pretty cool.

Shit, the list of cameos and appearances in the Avengers toon is like a mile long. And it's only going to get bigger with Season 2.

To be honest the old "air force officer who gets caught by a kree energy blast" origin is pretty cool

I actually like it a lot more than her being a generic hardass SHIELD agent.

I'd very much prefer it stay as close to the original origin as possible, excepting for the damsel in distress aspect of when she got blasted with the psycho-magnetron. I think. I need to go back and re-read the old stuff.

EDIT: Oh. The blonde from the last season of The Unit suddenly comes to mind.

    Crimsondude on
  • SolarSolar Registered User regular
Honestly if there is one problem with her origins it is that she gets her powers because she was connected closely to a character who has been dead for over 20 years (I think). So while it still works, you either have to have Captain M or try and work that a different way.

LEGO will be releasing sets based on the DCU: http://www.brothers-brick.com/2011/07/20/lego-gets-dc-comics-license/

I would imagine this means we'll see a video game at some point too.
