The game is
football, the one actually played with your feet, you ignorant bastards.
Current standings for the leagues that are worth paying attention to right now:
Champions League
The Champion League is in full swing on Feb. 20, the current matchups:
If there is a kind and loving God, ManU
are will bounce out early. I don't expect this to happen because they are playing... well they're playing Lille. I have to say that Ronaldo is ManU's most impressive player so far, and is making as big an impact in the Champions League as he is making in the Premiership.
I don't know shit about Lille aside from the fact that they are a French team. There you have it.
No underdog story here, ManU is going to go through.
An on-again, off-again Real Madrid is playing a substandard Bayern Munich. Both teams have some situations right now that give their storied histories a bit of a black eye. Real Madrid, specifically Fabio Capello and Calderon are behaving like little bitches. Their handling of the Beckham situation has been appalling and I won't shed any tears when Capello and Calderon get the boot. (Which will happen if Real Madrid keeps preforming they way they are in
La Liga).
Bayern Munich just fired their coach, and have had a string of bad losses in the Bundesliga.
I could see either team winning this bracket, I give the edge to Madrid. (They are after all, my team).
After their qualifying play it should come as no surprise that Celtic is deserving of their current place against AC Milan. They damn near beat Manchester United at Old Trafford in one of the more enjoyable games of the qualifying round. You may have seen Celtic's Yakamura p
ut in an amazing set-piece on Sportscenter.
AC Milan shouldn't even be in the competition, but they are. (See match-fixing scandal). They had a laughable qualifying group and thus, they find themselves here.
I hope Celtic goes through, it would be historic.
Arsenal have dropped the ball in the Premiership but have made it this far in the Champions League. They can be one of the most inspiring and entertaining club sides to watch play, and Thierry Henry is capable of brilliance. However, inconsistent play will punish them more in the Champion's League then in the Premiership.
Sorry, don't know shit about Eindhoven besides the fact that either Ajax or them always make it in from the Dutch
Eredivisie.
Arsenal through to the next round.
Can't say much about Roma either, I hate Italian football, (more then ever right now, cop killing fucks), so I don't pay much attention to their
Serie A. Roma qualified by keeping up with Valencia and are currently battling with Inter Milan for top spot in the
Seria Assholes.
Lyon have been the story of this year's Champion's League so far and you'd be a fool to not consider them when thinking about who's going to take home the hardware after the game in Athens. They obliterated and embarrassed a full strength Real Madrid in the qualifying stages. Keep a sharp eye on Juninho.
Lyon will win this bracket.
Valencia is a contender for top spot in La Liga, but didn't really have to difficult of a group in the qualifying stages of the Champion's League. With some brilliant players like David Villa and Fernando Morientes, they will bury you if given the chance while their players are hot. I see the same problems with them that I see with Arsenal, inconsistent play.
Inter Milan have essentially been handed top place in the Italian league because of the match fixing scandal. They can field impressive names and on paper and have a string of 14 straight victories in the Seria A. I'm not convinced they are going anywhere further than the next round. That said, Valencia should put up a good fight.
Giving the edge to Inter, however, I hope Valencia send another Italian team home.
After being a goal away from not qualifying for the next round of the Champion's League, Barcelona has been given a new lease on life. They've not played particularly well over the last few weeks, but don't kid yourself, they are Barcelona. They don't have
it, like they had last year though. I don't think they will win it all this year.
Liverpool started their Premiership season looking like a bunch of losers, but have slowly climbed their way back into the third spot in the Premiership. However, their Champion's League play has been merely adequate, nothing special.
I give the edge in the bracket to Barcelona, but neither of these two teams are currently playing at their best level.
Chelsea looked impressive in the qualifying stages but have recently gotten kicked around a bit in the Premiership. Jose Mourinho is not happy right now and, as usual, drama surrounds the team on and off the field. Chelsea theoretically should breeze past Porto. They will be their own worst enemy.
Porto is Mourinho's old team, but not living up to the reputation they won by winning the Champion's League under his guidance. Portugal's strongest team probably won't have enough quality to beat out Chelsea.
Chelsea should win this bracket.
Other interesting matches fo
NewsEngland got their asses handed to them by Spain. The score is deceiving because England played like absolute shit. I am pleased because I am Spanish. It was a friendly, so nothing technically mattered this game, but, McClaren certainly didn't help himself by getting outplayed, badly, by a country who's reputation is almost as inflated as England's. Really though, I love English soccer and will support England as long as they aren't playing the USA, Ecuador or Spain, but the current state of their national team is pitiful. McClaren is an appalling coach, and was the same at Middlesbrough. Kicking Beckham off the team, while a bold mold, was a mistake, because England need some one with his on-the-field character more than ever.
Lampard and Gerrard seem to mix like water and oil, and a country who has some impressive striker's of its own continues to fail horribly at putting the
damn ball in the
damn net.
The United States beat Mexico in Arizona. Mexico doesn't win when the games are played in the United States. Unfortunately, little bitch Landon Donovan scored and will garner praise for it.
Also...
I'd like to know who supports who on these boards, so post you favorite club and national teams.
All other club teams exist outside of
Real Madrid. Although a quote that describes my current feelings for them is "I love Real Madrid, but I don't always like Real Madrid." They are behaving like spoiled children and I hope Calderon and Capello get their asses kicked out of the Bernabeu quickly. The days of the success of the 2002
Galacticos team are long gone now, and Madrid have been nothing but average. I was thrilled that they at least beat Barcelona at home this year, in what assuredly was their best game of the season.
Their current form is horrible and there will be sweeping changes if they lose one or two more games. Hell, you're talking about a Club whose fans forced the firing of a coach while the team was at the top of
La Liga simply because they were unhappy with the style of play.
National teams, I get behind whatever is in my blood: USA, Ecuador and Spain. All of them are decent. Ecuador played out of their minds at the last World Cup. Spain, true to form, absolutely crushed the shit out of their fan's hopes and dreams by getting beaten by France. The USA needed to get their asses handed to them at the World Cup. We're not hot shit,
yet.
That's it, that took fucking forever. Basically, talk about the best sport in the world. Go.

Too bad we don't get to watch any of this.

But I'm afraid they're going to get ripped apart by Barca in Champion's League for both games. Still, its good to hope.
I hate how barely any Liverpool games get shown on Fox Soccer Channel here in the states.
If I wasn't a Liverpool fan, I'd definitely root for Arsenal. Fun team to watch if they're not having a bad game.
Also, football is terrible and only terrible people like it. IF YOU LIKE FOOTBALL THIS MEANS YOU ARE TERRIBLE.
knob when will we play our game

We do have a friend who's a huge Everton fan and whose mom is a Liverpool fan. It's amusing to watch them swear at each other because of it.
Was it the fleeing with his tail between his legs from Bayern Leverkusen to come "save US Soccer" that hooked you?
Did the fact that he shit the bed in the World Cup turn you on?
I hear the Galaxy are doing sweet right now under Landon. Maybe he really will keep the armband now that Beckham's in town.
Landon Donovan is the great white hype.
Is he a bad player? Depends on if he wants to show up that day. He can make great plays... only if he feels like it. He's the worst poster-child that US Soccer could ever have.
Also, who's that kid who's like really good. He's like 12 or something. All playing in the pros and what not. Maybe he's like 15 or 17 now. I dunno.
This kid is amazing. You can just watch the first minute of the vid, the rest is standard stuff.
Strange, my friends and I always root for chelsea just because Ronaldinho is on it and we like saying his name, he's still on chelsea right? The OP needs more info on where the star players from the world cup play IMO.
what
ronaldinho never played for chelsea
he plays for Barca
