Im thinking of watching Ghost in the Shell tonight
i cant decide as to whether or not this is a good idea
what if i like it?
will i become one of those anime fan guys?
I saw the original movie or whatever, and it was pretty cool. Cops, sci-fi stuff, melee and gun fighting, computer hacking, corruption. Neat themes. Nice art/animation. Decent storyline and acting.
You won't become some manga-addicted faggot just by enjoying a good movie.
yeah. im sitting here in class looking at it, and seening that it deeply influenced the matrix. Shit sounds like it is right up my alley
Did it? I didn't realize that it was so old, but I guess the original Manga was probably around in the 80s or whatever.
I think it is more the temes, but it said that the two intros of the two films are very similar, and that the matrix did this delibirately (the thing with the gree leters and stuff. I purposely change the colors of MATLAB so its green on a black blackground like that, it just makes me think of very very technlogical-ness)
I'm going to want some support for "the colors on computers in Matrix were influenced by GitS" because The Matrix was written in the 1980s, and computer terminals back then were actually green-and-black monocrhome. So I would be more inclined to think the author just wrote that based on the real world at the time than based on fiction from Japan.
Regarding the "some seem to be Japanese" about the computer text in The Matrix, I will state for those who don't know that those characters ARE Japanese. Specifically, they are katakana characters written backwards.
I see the strong similarities, but what I'm looking for is something a little harder in terms of evidence. Some article or something. Anything other than just "well I mean look at them, come on, they're similar."

I'm curious, did the author specify in "The Third Eye" or whatever the original manuscript was titled, that the screens were green and black monochrome?
I'm seriously curious, and now I kind of want to read the manuscript.

Yeah, I wonder that myself. I imagine she did, but I don't know.
I just looked on Wikipedia and the movie GitS came out in 1995, and apparently the first manga was 1991. If The Third Eye was written in the 1980s, there's no way it could've been influenced by GitS.

On April 24, 2003 Sophia Stewart filed suit against Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Joel Silver and the Wachowski Brothers claiming that the stories of The Matrix and Terminator franchises were based on a manuscript she wrote titled "The Third Eye". She allegedly submitted the manuscript to the Wachowskis in response to an advertisement. On October 4, 2004, a California court granted Stewart leave to continue her case. One account misreported the October 4 decision as Stewart winning her lawsuit, rather than simply winning permission to continue with the case. The case was dismissed in June 2005 on the basis that "Stewart and her attorneys had not entered any evidence to bolster its key claims or demonstrated any striking similarity between her work and the accused directors' films".[29]
It also says this:
Japanese director Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell was a strong influence. Producer Joel Silver has stated that the Wachowski brothers first described their intentions for The Matrix by showing him this anime and saying, "We wanna do that for real".[6][7] Mitsuhisa Ishikawa of Production I.G., which produced Ghost in the Shell, noted that the anime's high-quality visuals were a strong source of inspiration for the Wachowski brothers. He also commented, "... cyberpunk films are very difficult to describe to a third person. I'd imagine that The Matrix is the kind of film that was very difficult to draw up a written proposal for to take to film studios." He stated that since Ghost in the Shell had gained recognition in America, the Wachowski brothers used it as a "promotional tool".[8]

The Third Rye
It's about a Jewish deli owner who fights to the death with his brother over the ultimate recipe for rye bread.

But delicious breakfast sandwhiches and coffee are only an hour away....
Wow I am surprised to hear that after the whole "the manuscript to The Third Eye was seen on the set of The Matrix and was used all the time."
I'm further surprised because I always thought that the film being ripped off was the reason why the original one was so good and then the series instantly went straight to Shitburg.

I still don't think the last two movies were that bad.
Nowhere near as awesome as the original, but action-flick-whatever-passable, easily.

I felt pretty ripped off by the third one. It seemed like the second one spent all this time setting up all this history and backstory and shit, and then they just threw it away for the third one.

Yeah, I see that. And the first one was just worlds better in the arena of flim-making than either of the two sequels. It was pretty much entirely plot driven, which is fine, but since the first one was all mysterious and suspensy, and well put-together, it was kind of a let down to lose that in the sequels for plot and bigger, badder fight scenes.

Look, you may have the best fucking food in the history of the planet. But you people have got to learn a thing or two about naming your food so it doesn't make me think I already threw up.
i found a big factor was how the in the first film you've got some dude just chilling in the regular world then half an hour later the entire movie becomes an entirely different experience. i had no idea what it was about going into it and i just about took a shit when he woke up in that pod. once that bomb had been dropped it is pretty tough to upstage it in the sequels..

For some reason I didn't even know faggots existed until I read about them on SA a few days ago...
EDIT: I also have it on good authority that digestive biscuits are probably most similar to Graham crackers, although still quite different. But they are eaten in very similar ways (i.e. make good cheesecake bases)

In the second movie, I felt like the kinda went for it with the "The prophecy is just another form of control", but the execution just wasn't on the same level.
By the third movie, they just gave the fuck up and spent all their time on the Dragonball Z air battles.

Seriously, you have two guys of essentially limitless power and strength, so we just have them punch each other over andover?
Fuck, start fencing with streetlamps or something! I want to see a guy smash an SUV into another guy! Don't just punch each other!

After all the cool shit that went into that series, the big finale was basically something I would have scripted in First Grade.
The more I think about it, the more I think the thrid film was what really sucked about the Matrix.
I saved Trinity basically 10 minutes ago, but now she's dead *again* for real this time.
We've had a lot of snow and rain in Albuquerque this year, a freakish amount actually. We had a lot of fun playing out in it though, which was good because we couldn't do much else as it pretty much shut down the entire metro area.

Kay.
yep i always thought, okay if you're going to do a huge action movie why not do a prequel since the rise of the machines and enslavement of the human race would be pretty sweet. i barely remember the ending of the third, i mean it was kind of cool them breaking through the clouds and all that but it just felt pointless. the idea that they reached a truce was pretty far fetched too which is why i didn't really feel anything at the end. the whole zion battle was the worst by far though just NANANANANNANA for like 40 minutes...
I always thought that the most disappointing thing was them pussing out on the vampires/werewolves/ghosts angle. Inside of the Matrix was already so ridiculous as is, and they dropped all kinds of hints, so why the fuck couldn't all the goons in those battles have transformed into something that would have at least seemed like a challenge.

The entirety of the matrix should never have happened because when 01 got nuked that should have been the end of it not only due to the massive nuclear bombardment but also the EMP pulses.

It's in the Animatrix. All of humanity fired all of their nukes at the only machine city, 01. Then the story says some stupid shit about "their metal bodies proved resilient to the radiation..." as if that's the only thing that happens when several hundred nukes go off. Radiation.
i dunno i mean if you've got retarded ai its just like BSG, the rate at which a true machine civilization would advance would be so ridiculous we would never have a chance. though obviously they would never have to harvest humans for energy when you can just build cold fusion plants with your eyes closed...

The wiki entry says that small bands of machines hide in EMP-proof shelters during the bombardment, but that shit was not in the film and is non-cannonical IMO.
Reminds me of why T2 should have never been a movie. In the first one John Connor had already defeated Skynet. Sending the Terminator back in time was it's last action. Skynet was not around to ever design the T-100 or send it back in time.
