I can actually break it down for ya since I did end up buying since I'm a whore:
Your order has been divided into 2 separate orders.
Order #1 :
Shipping Method: Standard Shipping
Items: CDN$ 6.84
Shipping & Handling: CDN$ 4.99
Order Total: CDN$ 11.83
1 "Rock Band Track Pack: Vol. 2 (Xbox 360)"
Video Game; CDN$ 6.84
Order #2 :
Shipping Method: Standard Shipping
Items: CDN$ 12.95
Shipping & Handling: CDN$ 4.99
Order Total: CDN$ 17.94
1 "Lego: Rock Band"
Video Game; CDN$ 12.95
so basically Track Pack 2 for 11.83 (including shipping) and Lego for 17.95 (including shipping) PLUS the 10 dollar export fee whenever lego shows up (which they estimate to be between Sept 25th and Oct 2nd )
so because of blitz I've spent way too much
Blitz: $15
RB 3: $20
RB2 Export: $10
LRB: $18
LRB Export: $10 (future)
TP2: $12
RB 1 Export: $5 (haven't actually done this yet as I haven't borrowed the DVD)
Total: $90
so uhh fuck you Harmonix you god damned geniuses, i haven't owned one of these things since Guitar Hero 2 and 3, I thought I was out!
I wish they had given the notes a bit more of an outline. It's really hard to see the bright yellow on yellow during guitar solos and you got a Blitz going + other shit blowing up everywhere. All of a sudden, my speed comes to a crawl.
Anyway, almost got 100% on the Ride the Lightning solo. I think it's enough to give Nocren some trouble... :P

In order to not strike true fear into your heart I won't tell you how much I've spent on Rock Band.
Well, that and I don't want to try and do the math.
I eventually did the same as Fyre... Though to be fair it was because I grabbed everything, set it all up and realized, "fuck.... Forgot that damn disc!" so I bought the GoD version.
I may end up doing this too. Provided I ever get my 360 back online.
Also, going from widescreen HD to 4:3 SD is the pits. I don't recommend it.
I wish PS3 had the GoD version available if for no other reason then I'd never have to swap out the disc again.
My only real complaint with Lego Rock band was that it seemed to be really hard to calibrate properly. Not sure why but to this day I still haven't managed to totally nail it down.

That and Green Day seem to be impossible to calibrate
I just copied my RB2 manual calibrations over to LRB but I don't think I've actually tuned it to the new television I'm playing on. Maybe I just won't play it unless it's on the old TV. :P

To discuss this DLC please visit the official discussion thread in the Rock Band forum.

And for awesome background information on this content, including recording details, album of origin, and release details you can head on over to the Rock Band 'Zine for brand new articles!
I keep being disappointed by the new DLC announcements but then I remember I've already got most of my "most-wanted" tracks on RB. The only DLC I'd really, really want is They Might Be Giants and Oingo Boingo, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Yeah... Imma gonna play this like damn near every other song... Once and done.
I am NOT looking forward to 2112 complete.

I bought Burnout for this specific reason.

"sure, what the hell."

played some more Rock Band 3 last night, it took me quite a few tries to get it calibrated to my liking but I finally 100%ed a song last night so I think I've got things locked in properly now. Pretty fun!

2112 wasn't that bad actually, definitely something I'm going to do like once a month. The solos are all retained (I was concerned that they'd be considered long enough to be omitted) and the algorithm that drops notes when there's not "enough" keeps it from being stupid.
And now I remembered that I still have to do the separated 2112 parts. Heh.

You'll probably still want to adjust things later. Once you get into the swing of things you'll likely want to make the game better fit your style of play. Hell, I'm currently on an SD TV and still had to make changes. Once you get it dialed in, it'll be like heaven.

God is that true.
Took me forever to unlock everything in GD:RB because you know what? All of those triple strum intro chords are cake when the shit is calibrated right but when it isn't? *sudder*
I could seriously gold star songs imported to RB3 before I could even five star them in GD:RB. Sooooo frustrating.

There's a lot of songs I wish I had in Rock Band that I know will never get added *cough*Ingrid Michaleson*cough*. Like she has songs that would be great on vocals, drums, keys, and while guitar/bass wouldn't be all that chalenging they'd probably at least be entertaining. But yeah RBN aside? Not happening. And that's one of about 50 bands/artists I'd love to have in game that I know will never be in without even going into specific songs I'm really confident will never make it in.
Then again? They put out a Florence + The Machine song and charted the harp to guitar so honestly? Who even knows? :P
That problem is magnified now that Harmonix is independent. Now middle ground artists are likely to never appear except at their whim. And you can practically write off any small time ones. Even RBN is no guarantee there.
So it's all but given that disappointment will follow the announcement. Three songs a week and most likely to be a 'hit'? Yeah...you're not getting what you'd rather have.

How does RBN work anyway? Does an artist contact HMX with some songs and they contract it out to a freelance chartter or what? I remember someone explaining this back when it launched.

Harmonix doesn't get involved at all. Developers can sign up for the program, pay Microsoft the membership fee, and download the tools. Artists can either go through the charting process themselves, or farm it out to someone who has made a business out of it (usually the latter). Tracks are then submitted for peer review.
The peer review itself is what holds a lot of stuff up in the process, and leads to an overwhelming majority of metal (since it's a self-reinforcing system).

Pedantically, HMX gets involved by approving the songs for sale. Usually it's just a technicality but there have been instances of songs that were denied due to potential legal issues.
Also, HMX has a 'no covers' policy. So you won't see anything that was previously recorded be somebody else. Public Domain stuff doesn't count for that, though.
For whatever reason, my internet on the weekends decides to drop out for about a minute or two seemingly every 5-10 minutes. This is normally a big enough headache, but it is magnified when I finish a song on Blitz only to find out I dropped offline. So Blitz doesn't save your score. So I have to gold star Cult of Personality 3 times before it finally sticks............

so, as a new player, anything actually good on RBN?

NocrenLt Futz, Back in ActionNorth CarolinaRegistered Userregular
Ehhhh.... There's some Powerman 5000 (later stuff), Flogging Mollys, Stan Bush (both The Touch and his Botcon theme "Till All Are One"), Stroke 9, 3rd Eye Blind, and Steve Vai. That's about it for major bands you might have heard of.
There's a LOT of Metal if you're into that. And a lot of indie stuff as well.

if you like Jonathon Coulton, there's a bunch of his stuff on there.
also, if you liked any of the 'bonus' songs from GH1/2 or RB1, there's a lot of stuff from those various harmonix/indie bands on there.
so, as a new player, anything actually good on RBN?
The real answer to this is 'probably'. Since you've declared a disinterest in metal, then it's just going to be harder to recommend anything.
You can either try to find videos on YouTube of songs that might interest you based on genre or if you're on the 360 you can download short demos of the song. The demos are only the first ten percent or so of the song and some of them might have nothing for the instrument of choice.
Most folks who bother to look into what is available find that there is plenty on offer to like. It just takes a bit of effort. Which is why songs that people already know sell far and away better than anything else and the more ignorant complain there is nothing good.
Most of my RBN purchases are from the first couple of months of the service when it was easier to preview everything on YouTube. Nowadays it's unlikely that most of the songs have a charted video.
I wish the shopping cart on Rock Band World would let you sort by release week. I actually do want to use the cart to 'mark' songs that I want but don't have the money / don't want to spend the money yet on buying them. There's actually a song I remember thinking "wtf that was released for Rock Band?" and now I've forgotten the name.
Just want to start at launch and add to cart everything that looked interesting while I had no money.
So does it just take Rock Band World awhile to update? I've gotten credit for the easy punk goal on about a half dozen songs now but nothing is registering in the Rock Band World app
I also really wish when you had an active goal it would tell you what songs qualify in game. I've played through four of the songs from the free 20 DLC pack but only one of them said I got credit towards the Cheap Bastard goal =\
Yes, Rock Band World seems to lag by up to half an hour.
Cheap Bastard doesn't count the songs that came with RB2, just the truly free ones. Headphones On, Charlene, and the one by Vesuvius, off the top of my head.

So you play Blitz alone in the hopes that the game will let you play score war with someone on songs that aren't Snoop Dogg or Roy Orbison.

Mostly because it is kind of crashy and overamps the audio a bit, but pretty neat that it can use a good swath of the DLC you already had.
AC/DC is better live IMO
Also #1 on Pearl Jam's "The End" come at me.
