My GH/RB experience has always been on the wired guitar that came with GH2. What's the deal with this lever switch thing next to the start/back buttons on the Stratocaster? I keep accidentally moving it while I'm strumming, is it supposed to make the guitar sound different? I'm not noticing a change from "off" to "echo" for instance.

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

I've been rolling with the same one as well. Penny Death.

Likewise. "Lovecraft was a Prophet" has been my single player name (and I finally dropped multiple ones with RB3) with "Hyper Combo Finish!!" being an in-joke with the guys I used to play local with (from Marvel vs. Capcom 2). I was pretty upset "Cthulhu and the Coupon Clippers" didn't fit.

And I'm *finally* going to get The Color and the Shape. The only Foo Fighter album I like, but man does not that define the nineties. I have no clue why I haven't grabbed it yet but it's about time to fix that.

Whoops I just spent 20$ on songs last weekend to catch up on old songs I always wanted to get. I could have gotten twice as many!

Any idea when this sale ends? I don't see it in the announcement.

No one responded to this so I was forced to delve in to the dark, dense jungles of the rock band forums. I've crawled back out to say that there isn't an official answer yet. HMX has confirmed that the "this week" phrase in the announcement was just for when it was rolling out, not the duration. The closest to an official response is HMXHenry continually pointing people to his twitter message, which said "until stocks run out".

Now of course speculation and overreaction are in full swing. Either the sale is permanent, or they are holding off on announcing the duration (an odd thing to do, after all). If the sale is permanent, people are wondering what this means for Rock Band as a whole. Speculation includes: are they discounting tracks so they can roll out RB3 versions like they did last time (highly unlikely after how well that was received!)? Will the next generation (console and RB4) not be supporting legacy dlc, explaining a massive discount? Or something more ominous, is this foretelling a dramatic drop off of support, such as Blitz being the last RB release, or the discontinuation or DLC?

Of course, theres always the logical option, that old DLC wasn't selling anymore and this was an easy way to boost revinue.

    Thoughts?

Packs are on discount as well as albums. You just need to get out of the sale tab and into the browse tab. They don't list packs and albums as being on sale.

    I already spent $70 on this...and I'm not done yet. :(

I wouldn't put it past them that they're permanently pricecutting legacy DLC because it's sales have slowed down if people prefer RB3 DLC now.

There's so many variables though. All of the sale DLC is from the Viacom era. It should be noted that the swath of DLC they put on sale is DLC every single Rock Band title can buy (minus the songs Lego blocks), so if it is a limited time, it's a smart sale in that 100% of the Rock Band userbase can participate in it across all 3 platforms.

Also until I get more money in, I think I'll full-complete the Boston DLC first before going after Grateful Dead. Although now I realize that I'm only missing one song out of one of the packs (China Cat Sunflower), so might as well buy that as a single.

late edit: well what the hell. I apparently actually bought China Cat Sunflower at some point, but it wasn't on that Xbox for some reason. wut.

It's literally the same songs from the export.

    http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=231755&p=4883425&viewfull=1#post4883425
Since there are bound to be a few additional questions about next week's Green Day DLC, I wanted to pop in with a few preemptive details here. I'll be responding to further questions as they pop up in the official discussion thread as usual.

Q: Why are you releasing songs that were previously available on Green Day: Rock Band?

A: As we've done with several of the Track Pack releases in the past, we wanted to release these Green Day songs as DLC to make them available to as many people as possible. GD:RB was released over 2 years ago and may not be readily available at retail any longer, so offering songs as DLC will give all RB3 and RB Blitz players access to these highly requested tracks.

Q: Will you be releasing more songs from GD:RB as DLC? Will you be releasing more new Green Day songs?

A: Yes, we will be releasing the full GD:RB set list as DLC at some point in the near future. Keep posted to future DLC announcements if you'd like to grab songs from Dookie, American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. We don't have any other new Green Day content on the schedule, but that doesn't mean we can't revisit once Oh Love is out.

Q: Will the GD:RB songs have RB3 features now that they are available as DLC?

A: The GD:RB songs will function as DLC just as they did if you had exported them. That means pro drums in all songs and harmonies where applicable. None of these tracks will have keyboard charting since 1) they are pre RB3 files that would have been incredibly difficult to update and 2) from what the Music Licensing team has told me, only one of the GD:RB songs had keys recorded.

Q: Will "Oh Love" be playable in GD:RB?

A: No, "Oh Love" is being submitted as RB3 DLC, which means it's not compatible with pre RB3 titles like GD:RB, RB2, RB1, etc.

Q: Is this Green Day DLC compatible with the same tracks exported from GD:RB?

A: Yes. If you snag this DLC, it will be playable online with your friends that have exported the same songs from GD:RB. They are compatible in online gameplay and they share the same leaderboards.

Re questions, concerns, nervous conclusion jumpers worried about how we're going to roll out the rest of GDRB: the current plan is to release all of the remaining tracks in one week in the near future.
My only questions are why no pro guitar, and if they had some upgrades would they work with the exports too? Other than that I'm cool with people getting a chance to pick up Green Day even if I have them already.
Charting pro guitar is a lot of work, especially considering the small number of people supporting it in the community. If there was a larger audience for pro guitar it'd be a different story, but 2 years out from RB3's launch, there aren't a ton of people banging down the door for upgrades.

Additionally, if there had been Pro guitar upgrades, they wouldn't have worked with the exported tracks, which wouldn't have served the hardcore community the upgrades would likely be intended for.

tl;dr rest of it is coming as a big dump

They could get a new wave of uptake on pro guitar if they made a deal with a guitar maker to do another batch of real guitars that also contain the necessary MIDI tech, like the special Squier Strat had.

I've been looking for a RB3 Squier Strat for a few months, now, and haven't been able to find one, here in Canada. Actually, I've never seen one in any store, ever. At the time the Squier Strat came out, I didn't have the money to justify the purchase. But now I have a great job, I'm making more money, and I'd love to buy one of those guitars.

The Mustang is kind of interesting, too, but I'd rather get a proper guitar, since I already play a bit (I already own a Godin electric, which I use with Rocksmith, a Yamaha acoustic, which sounds heavenly, and a Squier P-Bass.) Plastic buttons don't offer the same expression options as proper strings on frets.

Maybe if they found a maker who can manufacture the guitars well enough, but cheaply enough, while doing it in smaller batches, they could do well. Maybe make it a mail-order kind of deal, where you select the color/finish when you order, and they make it on order. I know that stuff made on order tends to cost more than stuff that can be automated and mass-produced, but there's been so many advances in manufacturing these past 10-20 years, not to mention how the Chinese can keep manufacturing costs so low, that the whole thing might be feasible.

    Creativity begets criticism.

I'm a little surprised they didn't release what will end up as the first three singles off Uno for album promotion if nothing else.

I suppose there's licensing costs involved but it's basically free promotion. Actually screw free promotion, it could have been promotion that the label gets a cut of instead of pays for.

Not that I'm arguing too much, just means I get next weeks DLC basically free due to the Blitz Goal code
