[WH40k] Wargames should be fun and played in a place that is awesome with good people
Posts
Out of curiosity, why would you need a stealth case? I got a couple questions about my army transport bag today, and I just said, "I'm going to the game store to play my war game after work, and didn't want to leave the plastic models in the car all day." Some places are not going to be as conducive to bringing in carrying cases as others, but if you've got a secure place to stash it for the day, what do you need to hide?
We've known direct sunlight is bad for plastics at least since the days of VHS. We're all smart here, I can't seriously believe we're arguing this, not on this forum.

I work with 10,000 engineers/software developers. I try to avoid conversations with most of my co-workers.
I only work with like, 6 engineers, so we all get along pretty well.
This is fucking stupid.
"Oh what a day, what a LOVELY DAY!"
Speaking of dip, Harridan is progressing:
edit: i'll put ice packs in there, hopefully they last 8 hours in the heat
The test linked above had the old plastics in the same environment and they were fine.
Obviously, leaving your expensive and painted models in the heat is a bad thing. But unless you can walk to your FLGS or can guarantee you aren't going to be asked to run an errand before or after your game, finecast models at some point will probably be left in your car, and on a hot day that could be disastrous.
Basically, finecast are more sensitive to heat than the plastics were. And while its not the end of the world, it is definitely a negative against finecast.
"Oh what a day, what a LOVELY DAY!"
I also could not bring them inside at my job. I am sure other people have these issues as well and it's not 'OMG plastic meltz idiotz don't leave in car'. There are circumstances where people need to leave their models in the car if they want to play that night.
Take responsibility for the the care of things that you own. Or you know, stomp your feet and pout.

can you just let my boss know I'll only be working 1 hour on League days? it's Monday nights. his e-mail is bob.barker@aol.com. thanks in advance.
I don't know if you even bothered to read my post some people have Jobs where it is a real concern and they have a real reason to leave models in the car. I've never melted a single model from when I worked that job however the finecast sounds like it would melt. Also it's really not stomping your feet and pouting you goose.
Also this memorial day a bunch of us met up at a chinese buffet before our big apocalypse game. Friend left his land raider in the car we were inside for only one hour, he comes out and it is noticeably warped on the side and front. There is nothing he could have done differently here. You can't really bring your models into a busy buffet and the store owner didn't open early as he came with us to the buffet.
It is definitely a problem, sure, but just buy some of the old pewter ones and stay away from Finecast™
There was a risk with plastic. There is a risk with finecast. Nothing changes in this regard
The only reason I believe this changes this is because during the test posted previously the only model that Melted was the Finecast one. Both the plastic and Metal test model (I believe the metal one was the same model as the finecast) where fine. This leads me to believe that the melting point is lower and how much lower is a serious question.
If the conditions are right, your shit is going to get ruined regardless of what its made of.
GW could package solid fucking gold in a blister, and sell it for $20 dollars and people would bitch that its a) not enough gold, b) still too expensive, c) PP's gold is better and cheaper, d) complain that if it was silver gold it would be easier for conversions.
Peeps just can't be happy
now to start constructing a tiny lead safe to protect my termie librarian that comes in on Friday (hopefully he doesn't melt on the UPS truck)
In other news, I made the raddest space wolf scout. He is the raddest guy, so super rad. He has a robot arm, a plasma pistol, and an axe.
edit: Nax lives in florida. pretty sure the dude has had some experience with melted plastic.
I'm angry about the price but I keep that to myself because I believe it is due to my financial situation more then the raise. But the fact that the resin models melt at a much lower heat then the plastic is a large, and real concern. This isn't people just bitching about the way the models look or the price. If the plastic has melted in my example in an hour, imagine what would have happened to one of these fine cast models. Same with people who have had entire plastic armies melt, never experienced or even seen this personally, but the fine cast would have been in much worse shape for the same time.
Yes both plastic and resin will melt in the heat, but it might be a problem if this new melting temperature is significantly lower than the general use plastic.
For example, if plastic starts to warp at 60 degrees and this new resin at 55, not really an issue.
But if plastic starts to warp at around 60, and this new resin starts at 30, then that IS an issue.
I'm sure it's not that bad though, so I'm not really worried.
lol at people expecting otherwise in a thread devoted entirely to one of GW's two major franchises that has been around for longer than many of the people that post here have been alive.
Also saying PP is cheaper is wrong these days
I don't really care too much about overpriced models melting, but dismissing the complaints about price gouges is just, I dunno
Soon enough they'll come out with something cool over the summer and people will either have quit or not be as pissed, then errbody can get back to posting 3 or 4 variations of rapelists and talking about the finer points of whatever happens at your FLGS.
And maybe one day they'll come out with new Tyranid models! A girl can dream
edit: just called GW customer service and they're sending out a replacement for my screwed up Huron Blackbeard Finecast™. Hope it doesn't melt in my mailbox
that's fucking ridiculous, why would you let anything sit in your mailbox? Take some responsibility and hire a personal assistant to sit and watch for the mail and bring it in. if it melts in your mailbox it's your fault, no amount of stomping your feet will make up for that.
pics of the scout, prz.
I once bought the D&D4E rulebook. I left it in my car the next day while I was working, because I was going to play DND that night. The glue in the binding melted completely and all of the pages seperated out.
Ya know what I did? I went and bought a new book because I made a fucking stupid mistake and made different arrangements for the future. SHOCKING
Edit:
So we've gone from complaining that the new models will melt while cooking inside a stationary car in direct sunlight and ideal situations for melting, to complaining that they will be destroyed during shipment? Really?
is this thread seriously moving into "You must be on crazy for not being a part of our angry mob" territory?
Maybe some of us are just tired of the whining.
but I also don't know who here works for GW
whatever floats your boat I suppose, but you won't see me telling other folks what not to post
Edit: Still have those badly painted Tyranids that I want to get rid of. 10 dudes with guns, 6 with four arms, 7 little pod things and some nodes.
What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable? ~ Mario Novak
I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
The fact that the melting point is lower is not a surprise, especially since hot water can be used to soften it enough to correct warpage and bending. If you don't want a problem, don't expose your models to temperatures above 55 degrees for extended periods of time. Bitching about it as an undue 'negative' is more than a little silly.
I don't think anyone here works for GW. There are a few people that work for related companies or game stores, but no one directly for GW.
- edit
I guess I should mention that there are a few of us that USED to work for a GW store. I worked there part time during university years ago.
Just because you don't have a rational response to an argument doesn't mean the other guy is 'white knighting,' especially when you're the one being more than a little of a cockbag.
Where do you live that even your house is 55 and below? I mean my house is above 55 degrees year round.
This isn't really to anyone in particularly but Look I don't think this thread is near as bad as Dakka/Warseer/BOLS. But just because someone posts something you don't agree with doesn't mean that people should jump on them and accuse them of making stupid mistakes/being a shill for the company. Some people need to leave their models in their cars while they work, to them a lower melting point is a reason of concern and they are not just stomping their feet and pouting (one of the goosiest comments in here). The people that are defending GW aren't company shrills or anything they just are either in a better financial place for the product, or do not mind paying the premium for the models.
What made this thread good was that people had differing opinions on all of this without anyone being a goose, can we go back to that?
