Mighty Thor #6, also called The Case of Thor's Mysterious and Shitty Beard, or Silver Surfer and his Bag of Bad Dialogue.
Unrelated, but this reminded me of a gag I have about alt universe Harry Potter books, like if it was about "other" high school adventures. Harry Potter and the Broken Condom. Harry Potter and the Planned Parenthood Society. Harry Potter and the DUI.
Still say most of his Marvel work was pretty great
I think most of his work in the original Ultimate universe was pretty good, though UXM was hit-or-miss, for me. I didn't care for his Wolverine, Old Man Logan, or Civil War, though.
Can I bitch about the last two issues Herc being kind of terrible, with a few exceptions? This whole Spider-Island story has been really underwhelming. Spider-Powers + Hercules should be an easy slam dunk, but the whole thing just feels really meandering, and bogged down by the broader Spider-Island story.
I feel like Millar is just trying to further differentiate his comic from the film by doing things that the film's sequel won't be able to do. Like in his mind, what makes his comic better is the fact that it can push the envelope without getting an NC-17 rating.
But really, the film was way better than the comic because it had a sense of humor and exhibited restraint.
Ok so I think this is still appropriate to this thread. There's a thread over at D and D that was started to discuss the whole Starfire controversy and its turned into hating on the idea of a shared universe. A bunch of people there refuse to even admit that SU's could ever do something good. Its frustrating that I'll post a situation where the SU allowed for a better or just plain interesting story and they will just keep steamrolling over everyone's comments with "nope its bullshit crossovers"
Also a couple people keep saying the DC relaunch was a failure when DC got what they wanted(a hopefully constant increase in sales) and we got what we expected(some good books, some bad books and a lot of ok books).
Also people bitch about Superhero's large canons being a barrier to entry and in the next breath complain that nothing ever changes.

Goddamn it.
"nope its bullshit crossovers"
Yeah, that's the fucking point. And it's been that way forever. And ever. "By the end of [Balzac's] La Comédie humaine cycle of novels, almost 600 recurring characters appeared in around 90 novels, creating an unmatched fictional universe."
Also a couple people keep saying the DC relaunch was a failure
That is just factually wrong.
Also people bitch about Superhero's large canons being a barrier to entry
It is as much of a barrier as someone makes it.
in the next breath complain that nothing ever changes.
No. What they want changed hasn't changed. Because I GUARANTEE YOU these are the same silly geese who still bitch about OMD.
Grr.
I hate you for bringing this up, and myself for responding in the Bitching thread like an idiot.
Mystique is currently chained to a rich guy's bed as his shapechanging sex slave? What the fuck, Marvel?
I hadn't heard about that. What book is that in?
Wolverine #9.
Are you talking about the end of that issue, where
Mystique's body is sold to the Hand?
Because the Hand are an organization of ninja assassins that resurrect dead heroes and villains to kill on their behalf. There's no sexy involved there.

Had the exact same argument with those people in the Trailers thread a while ago. They claimed that Batman and Superman should never appear in the same story because the kind of stories they appear in have different tones. I wanted to pull my hair out.

Yes. But I was only reading a summary on Wikipedia, so maybe some guy added something extra in?
Yeah, I think that someone just inserted their gross fan-fic into the entry. That detail lacks a citation, and I wasn't able to find anything on google about the storyline except for another person referencing the wiki page. If something like this did happen, I imagine that there'd have been more of an uproar.

Yeah, I really liked her solo series (I own about half of it in trades) and the "Get Mystique" storyline was good enough to write a paper about. That's why that (falsehood) took me so much by surprise.
1. Re: last page - fuck Kick Ass. Seriously. Plenty of books have failed miserably at the "no but like what if there were real superheroes in the real world" schtick but kick ass takes the failure to new depths
I just thing she's one big cliche and a bit of a (how I hate to use these words but for once I think she's applicable) mary-sue. Like if someone came up to me and said "I've got this idea for a new Batgirl and she was trained from birth by assassins to be the ultimate killer right and she is the best martial artist ever like ten times better than Batman or the old Batgirl or Nightwing or whoever else and she doesn't speak because she only knows body language because it makes her better at fighting and she's all anguished and shit" I would tell them that this is a terrible idea and to please never speak to me again.
And then I read some of her comics and I find out that the execution is much the same as it sounds.
I dunno I guess some people like the whole "ohh yeah she's a tortured soul coming to terms with her past" but honest I fucking hate that, I'm tired of it in pretty much all media. So while other people can love her and that's fine, I cannot stand the character at all. And since I know nobody in real life who reads comic books and I am a person who has been told I need to share my emotions with others I am telling you guys online.

That's fine, as long as people can explain why they don't like something beyond "_______ sucks."
I kind of thought her father was more of the cliche than anything.

she's been able to talk for years. how long has it been since you read a comic with her in it? they did away with the unable to talk/reading body language business almost as soon as she got her own series.

But that's how the print industry has worked for like, ever.
last stand of the wreckers is defying that pattern!

That is the worst reason.
Hardcovers are more expensive
so if someone wants it right away, they'll pay more for it
easy way to make more money
holy terror is out
need to get that
All it needs is X-Man.
Please take my advice.

Jason Aaron is usually pretty good
So I'd expect Mystique to start tearing some ninja ass up pretty soon. She does that.

Incidentally, the Mystique story lines in Wolverine were pretty good, and the solo series she had for a while was also pretty well-received.

I didn't hate her
but she was literally faceless/meaningless
she's mute! she has crazy assassin memories! I have no reason to give a shit about her!

After she could talk, eh
Steph was the best Batgirl. I wish they'd make an animated series based on her.
This is another reason why I don't like her
Because next to Steph she looks awful
