I mean I am sure she will be a major player over in Batwoman, but still. They are outright trying to diversify the DCU and they don't use the hispanic lesbian crimefighter.

    That's two demographics!

Three if you count "woman" as one.

So everyone is younger and relatively new to the superhero game (at the very least Babs is), but at the same time Killing Joke still happened, or may not have yet? DC, you've kind of gone all in in terms of letting everyone know this relaunch is happening, no sense in being that coy anymore.

edit: Interesting Beat article in regards to Superman and Superboy's changes with Neil Gaiman's lawsuit regarding Medieval Spawn being possible legal precedence for a "new" Superman being owned by DC alone. Guess when we see the credits page for Superman or Action Comics, do we see "Superman created by Siegel and Shuster" or Superman created by Dan Didio and Jim Lee?" It's supposed to be a multi part article, should be interesting.

I guess some Flash site asked Manapul if he was going to use Jay or Wally in the flash book and here's the answer....
    (stolen from Kestrel1)
One of the fansites asked Flash writer/artist Francis Manapul if Wally and Jay were going to be around, and he replied "I'd like them to be" which isn't really a full confirmation, but it kinda says, editorially, they don't exist yet. Maybe they'll be in the next wave of #1's, but since Speed Force has been started and cancelled at least 3 times, I'd say that book is unlikely to ever see the light of day. JSA will probably come back at some point"

For some reason Gail's interview makes me feel worse about the relaunch. I can't exactly point to one thing she said that makes me think this, but I know the whole "they're younger and they have less experience but oh yeah most of what happened to them likely still happened to them" thing is like a giant warning light indicating how much DC has thought this through.

Yeah, I agree. This sounds like a clusterfuck. Then again, it's also sounding more and more like the post-crisis reboot.

This whole thing sounds like a rough pitch for a DC version of the Ultimate universe.

Wizard did something similar a few years ago, complete with a bizarre take on the Teen Titans.

Between her interview, her forum posts, and her twitter statements, it's pretty clear that Gail is super conflicted on this whole thing. She didn't like the decision to put Babs back in the tights, but they were going to do it with or without her. At least she still gets to write the character that she's defined for the better part of a decade, and at least we know Babs will be in good hands.

She mentioned on her forum that DC worked with her to make sure Secret Six will have a satisfying conclusion. However, she had no idea that Deadshot and King Shark were going to be in a book literally until today. She's also implied that DC mishandled the end of her BOP run pretty badly, and you can see it in yesterday's final issue, where it was clear Gail was writing it without the knowledge her run would be ended.

I think they've actually jerked her around pretty badly, and it's a shame that one of DC's best writers and basically the only prolific female writer in the big two isn't getting more respect.

I don't understand the logic being used by the writers in interviews that "picking up Detective #871 is hard for new readers/it's hard to follow War of the Green Lanterns across 3 books" yet "Barry and Bart are around but Jay and Wally, the character in the current Young Justice cartoon, aren't/there seems to be no JSA, Captain Marvel, Donna Troy, etc."

On top of that I bet that within the year there will be a bat-family or other type of crossover with books that will probably make people furrow their brows at their iPads, telling the device "oh yeah?" and "c'mere a minute."

edit: oh wow Locked on Target, did not know she had any idea about Deadshot or King Shark in this relaunch.

I'm wondering where James Robinson will go or what he will do.

I know the dude gets a lot of shit, and he really hasn't been up to par in the last couple years (I think his work on Mon-El was fantastic, though), but I really wonder what he will do if DC drops him. Also, I wonder what happened to his Shade series.

Another good writer that I'm bummed we haven't seen is Matt Sturges. And then there are a lot of really prolific writers that I usually identify with DC that are only writing one book each now (Fabian Nicieza, Judd Winnick).

I think she's gone as far as she can at DC. She's been there a while, but she hasn't developed any clout or joined the group of men who get to determine the direction of the entire line.

One thing I've noticed, just going by this board's response, is that if DC just launched the magic books with a specific magic event or emphasis for September or October, it might have been just as eye catching. I mean, the same creative teams, only still in the regular universe (minus Voodoo), I don't see how that would have gotten any less wow or surprise from readers. Because that seemed to get the most positive responses of everything since last Tuesday, real honest to goodness retoolings and new creators.

You could see the Fair Play tats on the cover. What I am dreading is that he got those tattoos in jail, or as a part of a gang or something equally character derailing.

Not that I don't think "Superhero Logo Tats" aren't stupid. Because they are.

I've kind of been waiting for Gail to go to Marvel, ever since she transferred her "HQ" board to one of Marvels heaviest hitters I thought she would end up signing an exclusive with them at some point, maybe soon she shall. It's easy to tell that Gail really does take to heart much of what happened and I got no doubt the writing piece by that one person at newsrama who looked up to Barbra being Oracle really hit her some and likely she showed it to some at DC or they were shown it by someone else. She certainly is trying to be a team player but easy to see that she's not so much on the All Star Team so much as she gets a place and told to go nuts to some degree while others plan.

There are certain problems I got with DC for some time now, Dido in charge is one, the guy really has no game plan and no real vision of how to do things. Plus with some of what has been said before about 52 and how Countdown was done right in his opinion I really don't think there are some that get along so well with him. Hell why does his name show up in Tiny Titans so much along with his picture? Why did he get named dropped in the final issue of Doom Patrol, maybe it's just one of those things or could be more to it, that said Dido isn't known for making the smartest decisions either, he pretty much lucked in with Johns being at DC, without him I doubt Dido would still have a job by now, he really hasn't shown himself to be committed to anything, he changes things on a whim if it doesn't go the way he intended instead of trying to find a way to make it work out.

As for Johns, what doesn't he do? He's working on TV, he's been working on movies, he's been working on games, he's writing for several books, he got promoted and he's suppose to do other things as well, how much more can the guy do? Even then some of what he does I can't say really catches me, some of his stuff is good and other stuff eh, not so good. He seems to have a boner for the silver age which worries me and probably why DC has regressed in many ways.

Jim Lee is one guy that might be sait to want to push forward however what has he really done in the last number of years that really turned to gold? He reminds me of a middle age man who is still trying to act and pretend he's hip and in touch with the youth of America.

It all just leaves me wary.

Gail Simone is a great writer and I think that DC criminally underuses her. Like, they have a real dearth of talent which they ignore in favour of pushing their really big writers, and Gail Simone should realyl be a big, big name by now in the DC stable.

I think she should come over to Marvel. I'd like to see her write several marvel characters, and she'd do better there I think. Within a few years she could be on the same level as Fraction and so on, really one of their top tier creators. She's good, she's experienced, she's punctual and she should get a bigger role than ashe has now at DC.
