Western Digital MY Book Issues...

Hey everybody. You all have been immensely helpful in the past, and I'm about to reach my tolerance for frustrating, which I'm sure is a common feeling for those of you who fix all of your own technology.

I'm trying to set up a Western Digital My Book (Blue Rings). This model in case anyone is curious. It's supposed to be really easy to set up: hook the drive to the router, install the software, locate the drive, format it, and you're good to go. However, I can't get Windows or the proprietary software that comes with the drive to locate the drive no matter what I do.

I have the latest version of the software, and the drive is spinning and powering on correctly.

I have used three different Cat 5 cables thinking that may be the problem.

I have also tried connecting the drive directly to an open Ethernet port, as that was suggested as a possible fix on the Western digital site, but that didn't help me find the drive.

If anyone else has experience with a Networked hard drive and could lend their expertise, I would be eternally grateful.

If the drive is active and pulling down an IP address it should show up as an active device in your router. Plug it in and access your router to see if your router is even recognizing the device.
