Hey everybody. You all have been immensely helpful in the past, and I'm about to reach my tolerance for frustrating, which I'm sure is a common feeling for those of you who fix all of your own technology.
I'm trying to set up a Western Digital My Book (Blue Rings).
This model in case anyone is curious. It's supposed to be really easy to set up: hook the drive to the router, install the software, locate the drive, format it, and you're good to go. However, I can't get Windows or the proprietary software that comes with the drive to locate the drive no matter what I do.
I have the latest version of the software, and the drive is spinning and powering on correctly.
I have used three different Cat 5 cables thinking that may be the problem.
I have also tried connecting the drive directly to an open Ethernet port, as that was suggested as a possible fix on the Western digital site, but that didn't help me find the drive.
If anyone else has experience with a Networked hard drive and could lend their expertise, I would be eternally grateful.
