this is so strange, that people are assuming it's no better under the hood than current systems based on nothing
I've never heard of being first out of the gate as a bad thing except for the dreamcast, and it sure as shit wasn't because the ps2 had better looking games.
It's stupid. Sega had come off of a failed Saturn and the Genisis crashed and burned late in its life due to attachments. Nintendo is nowhere close to that.
It could have survived if people weren't blindly, stupidly loyal to Sony. Passing on a superb launch and system to wait for the crap launch that was the PS2 was mind boggling.

Turns out we're disallowed from having negative opinions because corporations always know best.
Have all you want. Try to base them on facts and not you know bullshit and dooomedtendo
Counterpoint: You're shooting his arguments down based on as many facts, ie zero facts.
DS: "Nintendo is doomed!"
Wii: "Nintendo is doomed!"
The fact is that people have been predicting the death of Nintendo as we know it for years. None of them have been right.
Moderating insatiable Nintendo lust is not proclaiming doom.
It's like that PA Spore comic. If you're not madly head over heels into the hype zone for the Wii U you're somehow saying Nintendo is doomed? Fuck off.

How are all of the Developers going to afford to make games for these consoles that will be stronger than the WiiU?
They have been making these games for PCs now for years.

Except for the controller, which could have just as well been released for the Wii, today, just as a console they seem to have played it safe. Which is unusual for them.
The controller is a bit WTF but it's not absolutely out there like the Wiimote was.

Hard to pick between Sony and Nintendo as the winner, although I think WiiU has a better chance in the market than Vita. Like GiantBomb was saying last night, Vita doesn't necessarily have a big market. We'll have to see, I guess. It sure looks pretty. Maybe Nintendo can have OLED in the final Wii U controller.
I am baffled by all the people marking Nintendo down for only showing games in existing franchises. Welcome to E3 guys, that's what EVERYONE does.
Reggie interview
Single touch screen. Have to be in the same room as the console. 3rd party talk; they're catering to them now with the power.
That seems incredibly short-sighted to me if that's the case. I understand it not wanting to be confused as another Nintendo handheld, but there's no way it should be limited to that small a distance when the size difference between it and the 3DS should be enough to prevent that confusion. It should at least be able to be used anywhere in (most of) a house. I could see situations where the main entertaiment center is not the ideal place in the house for something like that Reversi game shown in the trailer, so the Wii-U controller should be able to have some distance between it and the console to accommodate that.
Also, in case it hasn't been posted, no Gamecube for U.
It's probably just using Bluetooth or whatever, so you have to be within range for it to get a signal (as it isn't over your Wifi network or whatever). I'd be surprised if it doesn't work as long as you are within like 30-40 ft of the console.
I'd call Ninty the solid winner just for the tech presented *alone* in the Wii U, much less for all the other solid titles listed. I think a lot of the underwhelmed folks probably can't grasp what this thing may be capable of, but the amount of hardware just in the controller ALONE is mind boggling. Touch pad? Check. Drawing tablet? Check. Camera? Check. Wireless/bluetooth? Check. Full motion controls? Check, and the list still goes ON.
I mean, imagine playing football while calling plays against your friends on your own screen so that they can't see, or so that it doesn't obscure the TV? What about having a split screen game where you don't even need split screen, seeing everything your character does on your small screen while the other displays your friends? Have it take your photo to add in games, then edit with the touchpad like an artist would?
Come on now, that's just some impressive shit.
Sony took an easy second with Vita, mostly because the price is competitive for the hardware it's packing. It will easily force a 3DS drop, for sure, but they still lack the main component the DS line does.
Kid appeal and characters kids enjoy. Don't believe me? I literally got *mobbed* today at my kids school just taking the dang 3DS out to take pictures, and the mob wasn't *small*.
MS was a *huge* disappointment for me this year, and I'm a big fan of the 360 this year. I understand though that the Kinect is making huge amounts of money for them, far more than the Move ever will for Sony and thus they will push it hard. I think it could be even better but they really need to find something that makes it click for the non casual, which from the looks of it their working on. It's amazing tech, especially for voice recognition but they need to keep pushing it.

Considering it's Nintendo though, I'll bet the farm that they will impress when the time comes. The question is if third parties will or not.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. Basically all Nintendo showed was the the controller (which I think is rather neat). They showed us none of their own games or any significant 3rd party efforts on the system. All we really got were demos around the controller and some demo footage to show it's significantly more powerful with no actual details as to how much. To declare anything on the system at this point is rather silly.

The names for these systems get sillier and fucking sillier with each new release, jesus christ. Wii, Kinect, WiiU, Vita...a few more generations like this and eventually new platforms will just be named with onomatopoeia. "Man, screw the Microsoft Plop. I want to get down on that Sony Hurrgh or maybe Nintendo's Pppphhhrrptt, unless they cater to casuals again".
The WiiU's controller concept is intriguing but if the OXbox's controller was considered too huge (and it was), I have to wonder how long this one will last before seeing a redesign. I'd give it a year, maybe two before we get a revamped, smaller but multi-touch screen version.
Re: Vita - I know I'm all alone in this, but really, the PSP Go's design was just about perfect in my mind (the physical design, not the DigiDist only reliance). Taking the original PSP and making it larger was a step in the wrong direction, I think.
MS's Kinect-a-thon conference was a bit of a bummer, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll debut their new console at next year's show.

Let's keep in mind, however, that the lack of lots of 3rd party stuff (or more complete stuff) is not an indicator of 3rd party disinterest. It is likely an indicator of keeping a lid on the details of the product until Nintendo was ready to reveal it to the industry which includes competitors.

Hard to pick between Sony and Nintendo as the winner
There is no winner, you can't "win" E3, that's stupid.
There is only a loser
and that was clearly Microsoft.
I was thinking about this earlier right after the Nintendo conference.
We're in a very fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on how you look at it) situation: There are three console makers in the industry. What this creates is a 2 out of 3 situation when it comes to what these companies do. For the last few years, we've seen the 2 out of 3 measuring against Nintendo; Microsoft and Sony stuck to traditional video games, and it gave the impression that Nintendo is doing shit wrong. Now, while that impression wasn't true at all (since, business-wise they were a smashing success), the impression does matter.
With that in mind, what do we have this year? Well, last year there was a swing in Sony and Microsoft messaging to try to replicate Nintendo's success. They took two different approaches; MS wanted to innovate non-gamer friendly gaming, and Sony took the direct approach. This year, Sony and Nintendo ended up having a shared message - remembering the 'core' audience (whatever the fuck you want to call it). Microsoft suddenly became the odd guys out, because they stuck to the non-typical-gamer stuff.
So, the impression is Microsoft 'lost.' And after seeing Nintendo's keynote, I agree to an extent.
Buuuuuuuuuut at the same time, Microsoft didn't lose, because what they did deliver was actually interesting for the people it targets. Plus, their efforts to make the XBox THE multimedia device for homes is continuing to expand and they kinda have a really strong case for it.
soooo apparently ubisoft is showing an exclusive assassin's creed game for the wii u tomorrow?
If I can thank Nintendo for anything, it's that they have broken the mold of ALL of E3's news being unveiled in the keynotes. Ever since Brawl, seeing these out of left field announcements later in the week is liberating. Like the presser they are giving right now. Not that anything new has been announced... yet... but it's still nice to not have all the news done immediately.

Who does Fable Kinect target.
But actually I agree. Lately losing E3 means good sales for the next year.
Unless you lose by trying to sell your console for $599.

That tend has gone too far. The keynotes used to be the best part of E3, but these days they're so watered and full of filler that we hardly got ANY surprises this year. I can literally count the number of times I was legitimately surprised on one hand.
1. Minecraft on 360/Kinect
2. Bioshock on PSV
3. PSV price not being crazy.
4. Luigi's Mansion
And all of those are not particularly exciting things, IMO. Remember when they announced and showed of Shadow Complex at E3 2009, or when Left 4 Dead 2 came out of nowhere? These days they either talk about everything way in advance, or just announce sequels to games that I would honestly be MORE surprised if they hadn't announced.
It feels like there's no mystery left.

Well, Nintendo has been using the Roundtables for their big announcements lately, I think (see just now, Pikmin for the WU). It's a more... controlled atmosphere, because no one is on video. It also makes it feel more intimate because of that. At least to me. I don't know why.

So were there any exciting new IPs this year that aren't shooters? Looking at the gametrailers front page, all the games except two have numbers attached to them, and the two new games look like boring shooters.
