Honestly I think a lot of people are acting like the WiiU is coming out a year earlier than it actually is. I'm not really sure why people are trying to poke holes in things like the launch lineup or lack of info on things when the console is not coming out this year. There is a TON of time for more developers to announce titles - hell, we may even see another e3 before this is out.
It's fine to be skeptical and all, but don't declare them "DOOOOOOOOOOOMED" based on them not releasing every minute detail on a system that is still ~2 years out.
People didn't even give the 3DS a quarter of a year before declaring it doomed, so...
So were there any exciting new IPs this year that aren't shooters? Looking at the gametrailers front page, all the games except two have numbers attached to them, and the two new games look like boring shooters.
But yeah, while BF3 seems to be many people's game of the show, this year does seem particularly shooter heavy. Other than some random sports and racing games, the only non-shooters I can really recall were nintendo's games and AC

Pretty much, this year had a super heavy dose of sequelitis.
I can't really think of ANY original IPs. Nintendo even has a couple coming (hopefully) to the US and they didn't mention them. (But to be fair, Nintendo effectively ignored the Wii completely at this year's E3)
I remember Overstrike, but not much else. Sony had some quirky PSV games. There is that Vanillaware co-op ps3/psv game. Heroes of Ruins was announced before E3 and that's all I remember.

Haven't used it yet, that was just a publicity shot. Tomorrow or Thurs I will put it through its paces with their non game tech demos. =P
Make sure you post your thoughts, there are a lot of doom talk going around the net, but that controller and the possibilities of the Wu have me extremely excited.
PS3 + Vita and the Wii U are remarkably similar (with or without the 3DS). Similar enough to have cross-development, perhaps? It will actually help Nintendo if they aren't the odd man out this time.

probably not. though the vita has the requisite features on the surface, it likely wont have the same ability to stream without any lag like the wii-u.
I'd call Ninty the solid winner just for the tech presented *alone* in the Wii U, much less for all the other solid titles listed. I think a lot of the underwhelmed folks probably can't grasp what this thing may be capable of, but the amount of hardware just in the controller ALONE is mind boggling. Touch pad? Check. Drawing tablet? Check. Camera? Check. Wireless/bluetooth? Check. Full motion controls? Check, and the list still goes ON.
Really? If we're rating them by 'mind boggling' tech then the Vita is a hell of a lot more surprising. All the features you mentioned are in it plus it's actually producing those graphics, not just streaming them from an external unit.
If anything I'm concerned Nintendo are still using bloody resistive touch screens. If you're going to require a stylus, you should be able to play the game without using the face buttons (because pressing the buttons while holding the stylus is annoying). That really annoyed me in Pokemon Black, to a point where I don't use the touch screen at all because it's useless.
Buuuuuuuuuut at the same time, Microsoft didn't lose, because what they did deliver was actually interesting for the people it targets. Plus, their efforts to make the XBox THE multimedia device for homes is continuing to expand and they kinda have a really strong case for it.
The people that have never heard of E3 so never watched the conference and will only ever hear about these products when they see the advert on tv? Yeah, sounds like a smart plan. Or not. There's a reason why Nintendo have changed directions in the last couple of years.
soooo apparently ubisoft is showing an exclusive assassin's creed game for the wii u tomorrow?
Could be a good sign or bad. I'd lean towards the latter because Ubisoft never makes an exclusive unless they know it's going to be low budget crap (see: Ds or PSP games).
An upgraded AC1 would be a far better idea, followed by AC2, AssBro and AssRev ports. I'd suggest they just port them all and throw them in a bundle but including the original AC1 would be a really dumb idea to include as a first introduction.

The same people that would buy Darksiders 2 or Batman: Arkham City months after they're already out on PS3, 360 and PC? Ones that don't have those systems?

Well, originally the idea of E3 was to show off this shit to journalists and investors, who in turn would inform the public/their clients of what the hells going on. While it's greatly mutated over the years, ultimately it's STILL primarily a press thing.
They didn't do a bunch of Kinect shit for Mom and Dad sitting at home watching the stream on the web: they did it for the guy who's going to write an article in the New York Times or whatever about how Kinect will probably be a good holiday gift (or whatever), which in turn will be read by said Mom and Dad.
The same people that would buy Darksiders 2 or Batman: Arkham City months after they're already out on PS3, 360 and PC? Ones that don't have those systems?
Exactly. I doubt that there are a lot of "core" gamers that don't have either PS3 or 360... Do you think that late ports will appeal to enough people to make Wii U a success?
The best way to support a new console is to have new exclusive quality games on it. And an exclusive Assassin's Creed seems like the right way to do it - assuming it's not crap.

That isn't going to happen though. This is the HD generation, budgets are way too high to risk making an exclusive. So either the budget is tiny or, at best, this is a timed exclusive that PS3/360/PC owners will get a few months later and wouldn't convince anyone to suddenly buy a Weeoo.

For the record, Darksiders 2 was announced to be coming out in 2013 when it was first talked about. Today was the first time they talked about it being released in 2012, and that was talking about it being a WiiU launch title.
And the exclusive Assassin's Creed may be the next one after Revelations, which would fit the AC game a year mantra.

No it wasn't. Darksiders 2 was always meant to come out in 2012. Here's the release schedule THQ released in June last year:
Edit: And the next Assassin's Creed will be Assassin's Creed 3. I don't think we've had one of these for years but I'll eat my dick if Ubisoft makes THAT game Weeoo exclusive.
No way in hell AC3 is a WiiU exclusive. But I bet it will be the jumping off point for WiiU's AC games, as it will be a new main character and an easy entry point into the series because of that.
Does the WiiU controller have a headphone jack? I didnt see any on the screens I saw, and I just realized that if I have to move my game to my controller so someone can use the TV, I also will lose the speakers, and if I have to stay in the room with the console, neither one of us will be happy with trying to compete for sound on our devices...

Except for the 10 3D trailers they put on the eShop, games coming out soon like Mercenaries and OoT, and a bunch more stuff not featured in the actual conference, like this one:

Yeah except that the unit is getting it all streamed without lag from the base console, and hey, doesn't cost $250 on top of the consoles cost, eh? Also, it was shown to be basically the equivalent of a drawing tablet. Remember the concept of them drawing Zelda on the screen? I doubt you can do that on the vita, if anything the screen seemed slightly laggy with their Drake demo. Also, no camera on Vita, I think.
The biggest thing will be the potential applications in conjunction with the console itself, since it's actually the controller there's no lag and no other hardware to program aside from the actual console game (IE they would have to build it into a separate portable game for it to work at all in Vita's case).

Yeah, wasn't sure on that one. Still, the overall point really isn't the hardware matching, it's the cost involved extra along with the fact that it's not a controller working with the system.

Just saying that you have no idea if what you're talking about is the truth. NONE of us do.
"the unit is getting it all streamed without lag from the base console" - you don't know that. There may be lag, there may not be. I remember Kinect being "Lag free!" at E3 too.
"basically the equivalent of a drawing tablet." - I would be shocked. First off, if it IS, its going to be super expensive. Second, microsoft showed two girls putting on augmented reality dresses and a kid scanning in his skateboard in the Kinect reveal video. The kid scanning is now just STARTING to be semi-plausable because of Kinect Labs. Companies show what they hope they can attain with the tech, not what it's actually capable of, or what it will be capable of in the near future.
"doesnt cost $250 on top of the consoles cost" - you have no idea. With the WiiU actually still using current wiimotes and nunchucks as the PRIMARY form of control (I consider it primary, when Nintendo themselves has said at the moment there's not multi-tablet games in the works. So obviously they're counting on a lot of Wiimotes still being used...), we have no idea if it will even COME with the tablet controller. And we have no idea what the price will be.
I'm just getting really annoyed with saying things like "I have concerns about the battery life" and getting jumped on because YOU CANT HAVE CONCERNS YOU DONT EVEN KNOW, but then this stuff gets spouted like its total truth.

As far as WiiU is concerned, I'm just annoyed Nintendo is moving away from the bifurcated controller concept they started with the Wii. That was awesome.
