Help with Vista / IE 7

First off, this is a problem I'm having at work. Vista and IE 7 are what I have to work with and there's no changing that. I have Firefox as well but need to find a solution for IE.
The problem I'm having is getting IE to start a new session with my organization's website. There are a variety of ways to screw up a session with this site and end up getting a "Page cannot be displayed" error. The site (which I'd prefer not to name) is imperfect (to put it kindly) and I expect that. What's driving me nuts is that clearing temporary files and cookies is not enough to be able to load the homepage again -- so far the only solution I've found is to completely reboot my machine, and that's stupid.
I've read some threads online about people having trouble clearing temp files for IE 7 but I don't think that's my problem. I can see the folder and it's empty with the exception of an MSN cookie that I don't think is responsible. The browser is set to check for a new version of the page with every visit.
Again, the site is finicky, but I'm fairly sure this is an IE issue. I don't have the problem in Firefox.
This isn't much better than restarting your machine: but does the problem persist if you reset (turn off, then back on) your network or internet connection?-

Interesting suggestion, I hadn't tried that. Didn't seem to make a difference though.
I'm baffled. What is being cleared by a reboot that I'm not clearing manually?

you can not load the home page at all, or IE fails to remember what your home page is when you start the program again?
also I feel your pain
they have me running IE6 at work right now. I keep saying it's kind of a large security flaw for a bank to accept when we're all fretting about the security of the CFTC's swap reporting archives, but they won't even push out an update to IE
Try running it in safe mode (the browser, not the PC)
Start menu -> Type IEXPLORE -extoff in the search box and hit enter.
We have a winner! Well done!
So... why did this work? Is there a particular add-on that would be the culprit?
Yep. Now comes the fun part... find the one that did it. Load each addon one at a time and see if the problem returns... when it does, axe that addon unless you need it. If you do... tech support time.

PS3: MistaCreepy::Steam: MistaCreepy::360: Dead and I don't feel like paying to fix it.

Fortunately I've only got six to go through so that theoretically shouldn't be to bad. However, in an unfortunate bit of irony, I can't get the issue to recur now, no matter what I do. Maddening!
Thanks though! I'll repost if I ever nail down what was happening.
