Aria: Don't bother. Those shackles don't have a release catch.
Enrix: You mistake me for one of your clients or something lady? Let me out.
Aria: This was very good. The turian's been at Afterlife for a week. Usually, I spot them earlier.
Enrix: Spot what?
Aria: I know you're listening through that speaker hidden in Enrix's collar. I bet Enrix doesn't even know who he's really spying for, does he, Shadow Broker?
Enrix: Shadow what? I don't know any-- wait! What are you doing?
Aria: You don't play favorites, Broker. I admire that. But what I don't like is how you think anything twitches a muscle on Omega without my knowing it!
Enrix: Augh! Damn it, my face!
Aria: Feel free to waste as many lives as you want, sending your agents down to my world.
Enrix: Okay, listen, I'm working for a guy but it's not what you think, I'm not-- augh!
[Door opens and closes. Recording ends.]
[Note: Kalus Enrix's death has not yet compromised our other agent placed in the Afterlife Nightclub]
Just about sums her up. She's good, very good, but not as good as she thinks she is.
Why? By that argument, everyone sucks.
The Shadow Broker has details about TIM and tons of other people. So why exactly is this evidence? The datapad that the gangs were conspiring at her would be a better argument. And even then, she had an idea it could happen.
I just think it would be appropriate for Aria to show Shepard a little more professional courtesy. Not bowing down, but acknowledging that Shepard is extremely capable and dangerous.
"Don't fuck with Aria."
"Sounds like neither of us likes being jerked around."
"Indeed. As long as we stay professional, business should be fine."
man, i LOVE that fact that people are butthurt over aria brushing your air of omnipotence off like so much space dust
ya'll need to read between the fucking lines
does aria respect shepard? obviously. she thinks you're important enough to have you accosted not 10 feet away from your ship and summoned to her. that is the omega equivalent of VIP service.
does aria threaten shepard? hell no. but it's very important to her - after making a HUGE FUCKING ANNOUNCEMENT OVER THE CLUB PA SYSTEM - to not look weak in front of everyone. so she says "this here is my domain."
if your shep is smart, she easily grasps the undertone of what's actually happening and rolls with it. it's necessary posturing.
if your shep is dumb, then you get upset that you can't slap aria for making eye contact with your armored demigod.
we need MORE Unimpressed Aria in ME3, not less.

you guys are really bad at fanfiction
I'm applying for a writer position at Bioware. Granted, I've worked on the third of the writing sample I've done for several hours, and did that little exchange in about three seconds, but still.
Also, chb, my problem is that she's unnecessarily rude about it, not that she's standing up to Shepard. Aria's clearly more than a common thug, Shepard respects her, but that doesn't mean Shepard will just meekly roll over when Aria barks.

I thought Alucard was saying that when you're writing fanfiction you don't want too much blah blah and you don't want to let a double entendre slip by without getting into the sexytimes.
Omega is Aria's. The Normandy is Shepard's. If Aria was on the Normandy she'd show the same amount of respect that Shepard shows to her on Omega.
Maybe. Maybe not. The circumstances that brought her on board would likely dictate that. Frankly, I can't think of any that are really believable: Aria has her own ships to take her places, and she doesn't want to try to steal the Normandy from Shepard. Why would she be there?
I mean both Aria and Shepard are women who are in command. But Shepard is in Aria's domain, not her own, so she, being a clever little turnip, shows respect to the Queen.

sucking your dick because holy shit you're the goddamn Commander Shepard

Aria, in turn, says, essentially, "and don't you forget it, bitch." Not a terribly respectful attitude. Not asking for deference, simply professional respect, which Aria doesn't seem inclined to honor.

Yeah, except without the bitch part, because that's not there at all except in fantasized responses to her daring to assert her dominance in her room at the top of her club on her station.

she honors it pretty well in every other interaction
Mass Effect has been sorely lacking a rival character who is as much of a superdick as Shepard, or in the case of paragon, self-righteous to the point of endangering the mission
But Wrex, who puts a shotgun in your face accompanied by a series of very unkind words, he's totally cool
Aria insultingly asserts her dominance at the prospect of you possibly messing with your playground. Wrex threatens your life because you want to destroy what he sees as the salvation of his dying people.
Also, I have never called Aria a bitch, I just think she's being unnecessarily rude.

People are way way too used to Mass Effect fellating them at every turn.
For what little it's worth I have mentioned, multiple times, that Executor Pallin, who really doesn't like Shepard and takes several opportunities to drop putdowns, was one of my favorites in ME1.
I like the council better that most, and understand where they're coming from. Wish they didn't have their heads so far up their cloacas, but hey.
I'm all for people not liking Shepard.
Just want them not to be idiots about it. Or, just as good, to be able to shoot them. Both are swell options.
But Aria, as far as the game shows, is only surviving the meeting with Shepard because there is not a "Just shoot her" option.
(As for the ganglord and pleasant bit, I may be overly influenced by Pratchett and Hollywood, but when I think successful crimelords, I think Mr. Chrysoprase from Discworld, Alan Rickman in Die Hard, or Niska on Firefly. People who are very polite, sophisticated, even urbane until you tick them off, at which point they or more likely one of their employees beat you to death with a baseball bat and send your ears in a box to your family as a reminder. You know, none of the schoolyard posturing. That's for small timers.)
just because she says "you're on my station so remember who calls the shots here"
which happens to be TRUE
Not saying I'd want to.
Just saying that...
Look, killing Udina or Tim is obviously impossible. They have huge layers of protection behind them, take precautions, whatever.
Kind tough to phrase it proper, but I'll give it a go.
Aria, on her own merits, feels like a reasonably important person. Bit more important than Warden Kuril (and less suicidally stupid), bit lower than Wrex or Wreav, ton less important than the Shadow Broker. Probably about as tough a gunfight as Vasir, which isn't a light thing.
Not someone to ignore, not someone to start a fight with unless you have to, but in the grand scheme, not that important.
Unfortunately, the game seems to feel, without basis, that she's a Big Deal. It wouldn't be too bad if you didn't have to talk to her. But there she is, blabbing as if she's the A-One badass queen of the universe, when she can't even keep an eye on the brilliant criminal plans of the Blood Pack.
Anyone else ever read Chesterton's Club of Queer Trades? There's a guy in one of the short stories who professionally makes dumb comments at parties so someone else can look the wit by reading the devastating responses off a three-by-five up their sleeve.
Here, it feels like Shepard is the one playing canned bad lines for the essential meetings. It's cheap heat.

Omega is a huge deal, especially in the books. Omega is pretty much the Citadel for people who can't go to the Citadel. Omega is a gangster's paradise. And Omega is Aria's.
At some point I will recruit Morinth, just to see if Dominate is a decent bonus talent.
It's great fun, at minimum.
Of course, you don't have to, you know, keep the save for any length of time.
Just choose Morinth, quick save, and reload.
That's actually what I meant. I'd never dump Samara, come on. Although if Morinth wore actual fucking clothes as opposed to Samara's Tits McGee, I'd seriously consider it. Did no one at Bioware realize how horrible that looks? At first glance, it's just kooky, but after that it's damn unprofessional, and not in a subtle (ish) way like Miranda's catsuit.

Or they'll be overly polite to mask how ruthless they are. *cough*TIM*cough*

Aria sasses one line
Shepard takes 6000 ego damage
she honors it pretty well in every other interaction

You don't say?
I actually hope ME3 turns it down a bit through adversity, good writing for the supporting cast, and how it might handle the ending. Heresy, I know.
Edit: The end of that youtube video was awesome.

I think Morinth's proposition was a test to see how many people would do something honestly stupid.
With recruiting Morinth in the first place already being pretty dumb.

But yeah, it's decent.
It's super fun as an engineer with Morinth and Tali. Controlling most of the enemies on the battlefield is great.
