It really is amazing awesome now. It basically instantly kills most mobs. Even Borg.
You know, I'll probably pop online once this goes lives assuming the following conditions are met:
9am PST... We should be game ready in about 20 minutes.
Yay.

There's a couple bridges that have random colored panels as well. I don't know why they don't do it more. I'm fine with the blue-on-blue UI, since giving it full LCARS color might make it too obtrusive, but a lot of interiors could do with some color.

It is awesome now.
I was playing the romulan temple thing on Tribble and I'd whip out orbital strike every time we got mobbed with a tight cluster of enemies. 12 enemies murdering us, then a little circle on the ground, then WHAM, all I see is a orange beam and a giant scroll of bridge officer points
well why can't we summon volcanoes inside a starship dammit I noticed on Tribble they cut down its cooldown so it matched Gravitic Field so you could have someone just constantly rooted and burned to a crisp (including borg who dont adapt to fire)
The new Qo'Nos is tits awesome.
It's grungy, dark, fits the faction theme (A group of pirates, merchants with loose morals, barbarians, and badass warriors.), and is everything the Federation HQ zone isn't. It's also built more for social features, then the Federation HQ, which is basically just a bunch of rooms where you do stuff.
You can find and enter a bar (And some of them have Klingons singing in them.) market places, an arena, visit Targ pens (Complete with cool sliding fence door. How the Targ's don't get out, I don't know, but it's still awesome that the level designers managed to make a door like that.), and all sorts of other fluff related stuff.
This is a good thing, because the Klingon faction desperately needs this stuff, if it wants to attract a larger demographic then the "hardcore PVP" crowd, and the "I enjoy suffering intensely while playing this game" crowd.
As an example of how much different this zone is from the (very) utilitarian Federation HQ zone, right when you spawn in to the new zone, the Klingon equivalent of a preacher is nearby, preaching to nearby players about how fucking awesome Kahless is.
And for those who don't know who Kahless is, here's a hint, most of his stories end with Kahless kicking someone's ass or doing something badass. Sometimes he kicks an army of someone's asses, even. Even when he's romancing the one, true, love of his life, he still ends up murdering 500 dudes, with, the previously aforementioned one true love of his life. He's like Brock Sampson on PCP.
To the writer's credit, alot of players are crowded around him at the moment, too.
Overall, this zone is a hell of a lot better then the Federation "base" zone. It feels like an actual city. Rather then just a place where I want to get my business there done, and get the hell out.
The signs to each location in Qo'Nos are written in Klingon. For those of us, like myself, that can't read that shit, if you get close to a sign, it changes to English instead. This is a nice touch, as it wouldn't make sense for Klingons to have Earth signs up in Qo'Nos. But it is confusing to alot of the newer players who are wondering why the hell they need to go and purchase "An Idiots Guide to the Klingon Language" to know where the mail-room is. Some of the replies on general chat are fairly hilarious about this, at the moment.
The Klingons also have their own, well defined/pointed out crafting facilities at Qo'Nos. Instead of being "R&D", you go to the Forge, and forge yourself some badass weapons. Because you are a member of the Klingon Empire, and you are awesome.
There's apparently a second zone to the city, but I haven't found it yet. I'll check it out later.
Shooter mode is awesome. I suspect it'll make the ground STF's much more doable, too.
Combat seems to be edging back toward's a much more polished version of what it was in early beta. IE: Fast and furious gun-fights, where cover is key to surviving. This is a good thing.
I can't really comment further on shooter mode, since I haven't checked out the finer parts of it yet. Hopefully things are relatively balanced in the end-game/PVP now.
Anyone wanna do a STF tonight. show those Borgs who boss?
I might be down for that.
I'll be home around 6:30 PST
Otherwise I'm going to Que for fleet actions and see if there are actually enough people to complete one of them for once.
Fuck, I alt+tab literally all the damn time. This could suck a lot. There should be a way to integrate AIM into it. Or gtalk or whatever the hell we're calling it now.

It isn't bad, really. Not super-powerful, but it is very easy to use. Join a group, push to talk, that's it. I'm not sure if you can pull in people from outside the group though, or make channels.
We should try it if we run any STFs. I've never really liked having to run a seperate voice program.
In other news, a captain with full purps can pretty much turn this game into Call of Duty Black Ops - Star Trek Edition.
Some of the hilarious kills i've pulled off (Blasting a guy in the face as he turns the corner, kicking his buddy back through the doorway, and opening up on the entire group, Scarface finale style, killing all of them before they even knew what the hell was going on.) have to be seen to be believed.
Also try to bring several different damage type weapons so we can try to have everyone with a different gun to lower Adaptation
Interestingly if you dont have the remodulator it makes the fight last far far longer than it did before the patch.
Also Space-shotguns are hilarious.
After Steam decides it isn't so busy that it'll let me use it as my proxy to get to STO (why can't I get my free download from cryptic at sto.com with my lifetime!!!!! fuck steam, I'm ready to uninstall it, and only use it when i wanna play heroes of might and magic, or Blood Bowl..), I'm planning to get some serious time in, and set up my toons to be legions of death for our explicit STF runs in the foreseeable future, and to help defend the upcoming borg invasion.. I am psyched for all that is coming down the pike, and you guys can expect to see a lot more of me actually playing, instead of just logging in to do the quick and dirty dailies..
Redownloading STO now, so should be up and running in the next hour or so.. So , yay? (Again, fuck steam and thier summer sale bogging the server down so bad.)
Anyone in the moods to run around as a klink, and just rampage in FPS to level up a little tonight, maybe? I have 3 Klinks all in ltC-Captain range.
I think I've got 12 new games so far, and I've been downloading constantly for the past few days. I'm probably the reason why your STO doesn't work.
Steam\steamapps\common\star trek online\Star Trek Online.exe
Run it from there. If you have trouble logging in straight from that launcher, then it's your PC, ISP, or Cryptic that's the problem.
Might just be a lucky streak, but I haven't had any trouble with alt-tabbing so far. I've been using windowed maximized mode instead of full screen mode, though, so perhaps that's the difference.
If I understood the patch notes correctly, adaption is now a per-player thing instead of an overall team thing, so I don't think you'll need to coordinate damage types quite that much. I haven't had the chance to go against the Borg post-patch yet, though, so I could have misunderstood it.
I rescind my previous statements against the summer sale, etc., and just simply face palm for my own incompetence.
How is it these days, worth the resub?
We had a team of PAers do the Infected and Cure STFs tonight. Infected went pretty well, especially since we had folks who'd never done it before. The Cure was a bit rough, but thanks to Nak we were able to get to the boss without him going complete ape-shit on us for messing up his plans. We had to 4-man the last boss, who definitely needs some tweaking with this new ground mode. We were able to get him down, but only because Kacee was able to glitch him into not shooting, moving, or putting down his shields. Saiph and I did the "red shirt charge" to take out as many repops and such as we could. A long and glorious battle.
Overall, the new ground combat is a lot more fun in my opinion. When you shoot something, it doesn't take 20 shots to kill it. Should be a fun system to play with for a while.
That alone might be worth the resub. Nak still plays, then, and the PA fleet is still together?
The fleet is definitely still around, and Nak is around sometimes, although he just had a baby. I think there has been a bit of a lull since the winter, but I don't think many people have completely dropped out. I haven't, although I haven't been on much in the last 3 months, with moving and weddings and family commitments. Mostly, though, I think it was just the content lull leading people to wait until they were a bit more jazzed up.
Maybe I'll break that trend this time.
I've got a few; PM me your email.
Seeing some of the little tweaks like that which they've made to improve the experience is definitely making me look forward to trying this game again more than I had been two days ago.
