I was always something of a solo player. I'd fill the bank, but I never did play directly with the other PA folks.
Maybe I'll break that trend this time.
Wewt, it'd be awesome to get more people in. I play like an absolute fiend during my home weeks. I just got started a work week so I won't be online, but once I'm back home I'll be busy getting my main up to VA and will then start breaking in a shiny new toon or two (prolly a Fed tac officer and a Klink) if you need someone to roll with. If you wanna hang out with me while I work on getting my main geared once he hits VA then that's cool too. I'm always down for a team.
On that note, I'll also be looking to run STFs and start PVPing on a regular basis so don't be shy guys!
Having alot of issues actually getting PvP to work at the moment, Lots of people are queing so up pops the little box saying engage or leave, i hit engage. it tells me its waiting for the other players and then nothing happens. The countdown stops and the window wont disappear and im kicked from the que. Im not even getting the message that says not enough players accepted. Just nothing.
Oh and I cant join any Fleet Action as it just wont let me join the cue. Which sucks because I like them!
Yea...I guess anyone thinking about getting back in right this second should know that they just released a huge code update, and it has caused a few bugs (all of which we told them about on tribble, lol).
It will get better over the next few days though, they are patching rapidly.
Oh, Vivox voice chat? I dunno, last night I was teamed with my brother and we seemed to have one issue after another with it. Very touchy, then it stopped working totally. We went back to using Skype. We'll see.
The patch today fixed most of my biggest complaints - the autofire bug was pretty critical.
Foundry enemies are still doing bizarre things in the damage scaling department. One Klingon Warrior will do 7-15 damage on hits directly to HP, the next will do 35-45 bleedthrough with the same attack. It's making ground combat in foundry missions an honest to god nightmare.

Okay. Lunge is now the greatest thing ever, now that it has the infamous Kirk Flying Kick animation. I use it in every fight now. Just start firing, and then leap forward with both feet first. So Badass.
lets put it this way, I no longer try to avoid ground missions like the plague they used to be. There's a few bugs and such as with any other major patch, but the dev team is working on them.
Now, if we could just get some more stuff to do at max level everything would be perfect.

If I have an existing account but have never subscribed is there a way to get a referral thing to get a few free days for me to try this out? I have been looking for STO to get improved for a while, and definitely want to check out this new ground combat. Not sure if a standard referral would work or not?

you could try, blast me a pm with your email and I'll send you the referral link, then you can try and input the code on the sto site and see what happens

I've still never done the KA stf.
And if you're lucky, you never will.
Seriously, fuck KA. It makes the tedium and frustration of "The Cure" look easy by comparison.
They really need to focus on three big things, now.
1. More content for the KDF when leveling. This is actually really easy to do.
They've got a bunch of empires that have formed together for the purpose of curb-stomping everyone else into submission. This isn't the bland old Federation. They could be doing alot of stuff with this concept, instead of just having us duke it out in Klingon missions. They haven't even explored the Gorn, Naussican, or Orion cultures/any missions with them yet.
Odds are this will get addressed at some point in the future. As many people have pointed out that the developers have free reign to include soft canon as they see fit. Which means that everything you see on a race page in Memory Beta is/can be pretty much canon for the game, if it's implemented.
2. PVP in this game is horribly unbalanced, and the community at large are a bunch of raging chuckle-fucks when it comes to PVP.
Noone gets that you're supposed to use cover, not just get in melee range of a character and spam the FOTM OP crap. This is why PVP is currently dead for ground combat. The ground update will help fix things, as trying to rush down a long corridor now is basically a death sentence.
But overpowered weaponry (From featured series, no less.) needs to be brought in line with everything else, and the devs need to start promoting PVP incentives more before it ever gets brought back to life.
3. More stuff to do at the end-game. There's a war going on. Why can't I go liberate a planet as a Federation officer, or go pillage the crap out of some poor planet of farmers? This is, admittedly, being worked on. And I hope they get sector control right, because if they don't, that's probably it for PVP in this game.
Some end-game instances that do not have the equivalent difficulty and pain of yanking teeth out would be nice. They could modify older ones into group missions, if they're desperate for content (And I don't think they are.).
Alot of end-game instances. The PVE crowd tends to just kind of dick around once they realize they can't do the Cure without exploiting the worker drone AI, or KA without a degree in mathematics.
The ground combat is much better but it's only really better to me because its about 5 times faster... not because shooter mode is some great thing.
It's actually kind of cheaply done.
But still, it makes the game more palatable so that is a plus... now if only I could find some more missions to do at CP4.. there seem to be so few main arc missions available at Captain thus far.
supposedly they're going to be rolling a lot of STF changes and such in the next couple of weeks. Basically making it easier to do them on normal, and then giving you an "elite" option that'll probably make everyone cry in a corner somewhere. There's talk of some more missions, repeatable and another episode set as well.
Hell, I just found out you can group up and do the exploration missions together.

I hear ya, my Engineer's lack of a Borg Shield is starting to make him be mocked vy his Tectical and Science officer counter parts who have the full Borg set.
Personally I want to run the STFs through with my Klingons. Poor guys have been sitting there idle since no one really does Klink....

I'd be down for it. My Klink Science officer has never done any STFs.
Hoorah for Borg runs. I'm gonna be ready to start doing them very soon. I'm one level away from having access to Borg level missions. I'll be down for STFs when I get back home next Friday.
This is USS Bellerophon to USS Ludwigshafen, standing by to wreck shit.
I wish I had a spaceship in real life so I could say this. (and I totally fly the Boston or some shit now. I have the most boring names ever.) But, yes. Tomorrow, thousands of Klingon families will weep.
So a buddy of mine has said he's gonna give a month subscription a whirl after trying the ground pvp changes and digging on the shooter mode. Is it cool to invite him into the PA fleet or is that a no-no?
Sadly, I bet you guys will be on during the day today when I am not around.
Also, leveling my Tac is going very well. The Breen purple set is pretty boss as I discovered yesterday. Doing the Romulan and Breen episodes took me from LTC1 to LTC5 or 6, so I really recommend doing them every rank to speed up leveling. I am going to do Devidians tonight or tomorrow and see how much xp I get from that.
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.
The only thing that makes me hesitant to doing the feature episodes is that the cool gear you get is level specific. The Reman shield looks pretty sweet, but I'm stuck with never using it again since it's Mark IV and I have much better stuff now
Funnily enough, my alt is now becoming my main since I feel like I "messed up" with my actual (first character) main: he's a Vice Admiral, but with things like no diplomacy or crafting levels, and I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing at that stage anyway (had played intensively right after open beta, then stopped once I reached RA, then started for a bit just to grind to VA, then stopped again). Replaying through everything again feels better than trying to figure out what to do to at the end.
You can get that gear any time again. Click the down arrow by the minimap, click Visit Bridge, and go to your ready room (directly connected to the bridge unless you set the TOS bridge, in which case you have to take the turbolift to the crew deck). The console on your desk lets you replay any story missions. The Reman feature series is buried in a submenu under the Romulan front.
I remember my first character. I got to LTC and had totally fubar'd it up and stopped playing. When I started again, I made another character, my current VA who came out tons and tons better.
Now I am leveling a Tac since the Season 4 ground combat update lets me realize my dream of having a Starfleet Spec Ops style team. All my BOs and Capt are dressed in all black Sierra outfits, and armed with rapid fire rifles, minigun, and sniper rifles.

Speaking of the feature episodes, where do you go to access those for the first time?
They should be in your regular quest giving tab, just from different people than Quinn.
Currently there is:
Series 1- The Breen: Ambassador Surah is your contact
Series 2- The Devidians: Franklin Drake is your contact
Series 3- The Romulans (Cloaked Intentions): Admiral T'Nae is your contact.

Oh. Well then I've rolled those super hard already (in the case of The Breen, 3 or 4 times). I thought they were something extraneous from the regular stuff. Neato.
feature episodes should unlock when you reach a certain rank (LT Com I think) when you hail Starfleet you should see the first mission in the series, (Skirmish for the Devidians) then Just carry on doing them.
Me and my BO's like to get up close and personal by having an all pulsewave (aka space-shotgun) combo. Each shot gets multiple people and with 5 people firing, enemies drop quick. Especially when they beam in a tight group right next to us.
Also since the update Tactical officers are useful again because of grenade damage being higher, so An all grenade team can just blow up everyone. Or give them Plasma grenades when you fight Borg as the Borg don't adapt to fire damage.
I can't wait to try out those space shotguns when I get home.
I have to completely redo my ground boff team. The all engineer turret rape team isn't getting me killed, it's just incredibly inefficient now. I'll be swapping in a tac boff for that delicious grenade spam and if it's as good as I think it's gonna be, I may just do a nade spam team because hey, why not? I have 0 issues with being a cheap-ass.

I wish the space shotgun was a Starfleet issue design instead of the shady black market design. I like my away team rolling in style.

Have they fixed having to go in and rebuild your skill trays everytime you get in a different ship? Cause that annoys the hell out of me.
No, I just experienced this myself. It's super annoying.
