South Korea has a culture, and cultural precedents in Sumo, that lends itself to an acceptance of 'Team Houses' and living like that. Most of the West does not, our athletes tend to live on their own and practice with each other scant months out of the year. Even Olympians don't tend to train in 'group house' settings except maybe for a few months every few years.
Well, Olympians do have year round training facilities in the good ole US of A. The baseball farm system is amazing, especially considering that the kids wanting to truly standout are playing year round in fall and winter leagues.
As for vid-game houses, I think there are several problems:
1) There's not enough money in SC2 in the good ole USA to pay for an profit from them
2) Committing a large portion of your life to such a risky endeavor - playing tournaments for money, is not the way to a stable future, or sanity.
3) Cost of living is very high, again related to not enough prize money.
The best you could hope for is to get regional teams that would eventually coalesce into houses, again regional, so that people moving wouldn't be a traumatic situation.
SC2 would do better as a sport if it caught on in the same manner as BW. Local. LAN's. Local legends... Grass Roots. This "pull from above by Activision" puts the cart before the horses.
the not having a lan capability as well as internet connections being much better than bw times makes local play very unattractive (however beneficial it might be in the long run)
i used to go to lans because i didn't want to play on my phone line
but now that the connection i would get at a lan tournament or something is going to be the same (or worse, depending on the venue's pipe), the logistical merits of a lan aren't really there
although the social aspect is still there, so friends and stuff should but the reasoning behind modern day sc2 lans is meh
Plus have you guys seen how the Koreans in the pro houses are living? I really doubt anyone in the west wants to share a room with three other dudes and sleep on bunk beds in their late teens and early 20's.

I would say that is more a matter of culture and location, the Koreans live like that because they are used to it and it is likely what they can afford. Space is expensive in korea. In the US they could probably get a house for the same price. Or at least a large apartment without having to share rooms.
Man these forums are down far more than they are up.
Anyways I just got beat by a 1 base all in, marines, scvs, siege, and medivacs. I scouted it so I knew something was coming, assumed a siege tank timing attack so I went 3 gate. I held it off sort of but he pulled back, waited for siege and then I got fucking destroyed. What the hell do I do against that build?

Tanks AND medivacs?
Did the first attack come at like 8 minute mark, and did you try to expand?
(also, post replay and someone will look I'm sure)
This morning, I played two ladder games. In the first one, I held off a bunch of harassment while teching to 2/3 ups really, really fast and thought, for some reason, that my pure gateway force could take on a massive terran bio-ball (I didn't realize he had been keeping up/caught up on ups) and lost very sadly a game I should have taken easily.
Then, having only 20 minutes before I had to leave for work, I decided I would do one more quick game - and, to ensure quickness, cheese it up. I two gate proxied this poor terran who didn't do an early wall-off and scouted the wrong position first. I still feel like I just bathed in cheeto dust... I need a shower, badly.

Yes. Surely there are none here who live like that. Ha ha ha. Ha.

Cheese should (barring certain exceptions on certain maps) be a free win for the 'victim' if they properly scout. You can only proxygate someone if they do a shitty job of scouting around their own base.
To a certain extent this means cheese is more powerful at the lower levels of play, but I'm pretty sure we all know that cheese won't take you very far at all.

Yes, kind of. I mean, it would have been a free win for him if he had either walled off to start or sent his scout earlier or maybe if he had even just scouted my base first. I still feel super dirty for it though... probably because I almost never cheese, especially on ladder and he was super, duper manner about it.
I will find the article but some guy on TL.net found her in a video from liek a year ago awith a go going to see a tournament. She was tagging a long, didn't know much about SC but was a fan of Idra. I filled in the blanks, she ditched dude, stalked Idra and mounted him.

Is anyone else a bit taken aback that StarCraft now has groupies?

thoughts re: that interview
Holy god she's attractive
what's more is she knows it
Idra doesn't give a fuck about anything, ever
and the skinny asian kid with comically oversized sunglasses on indoors who was supposed to be doing that interview should not ever do any interviews with anyone again
also the point of looking at your wrist for the time is sort of defeated by not wearing a wristwatch
