South Korea has a culture, and cultural precedents in Sumo, that lends itself to an acceptance of 'Team Houses' and living like that. Most of the West does not, our athletes tend to live on their own and practice with each other scant months out of the year. Even Olympians don't tend to train in 'group house' settings except maybe for a few months every few years.

Well, Olympians do have year round training facilities in the good ole US of A. The baseball farm system is amazing, especially considering that the kids wanting to truly standout are playing year round in fall and winter leagues.

As for vid-game houses, I think there are several problems:
    1) There's not enough money in SC2 in the good ole USA to pay for an profit from them
    2) Committing a large portion of your life to such a risky endeavor - playing tournaments for money, is not the way to a stable future, or sanity.
    3) Cost of living is very high, again related to not enough prize money.

The best you could hope for is to get regional teams that would eventually coalesce into houses, again regional, so that people moving wouldn't be a traumatic situation.

SC2 would do better as a sport if it caught on in the same manner as BW. Local. LAN's. Local legends... Grass Roots. This "pull from above by Activision" puts the cart before the horses.

all this plus the next game with shinier graphics to come along and sc2 will get dumped

you should do it for three reasons

    1) idra is a bro and plays really well and deserves to win more often

    b) laddering is fun

thirdly so you can say hi to idra's girlfriend for me

So I've decided to discontinue casting the TCL - the past few weeks of connection issues have made it kind of difficult (read: impossible) to cast. It also meant I was blocking out time throughout my week, which then wasn't being used.

Good news: I now have more time to work on my sig thing, or ladder, or cast SEA events (closer to home and without connection issues)

I've also let ZM know that I'll be interested in the PASC2 channel. I think we can definitely turn it into something great, as we're a pretty diverse community, both in playstyles/etc but more importantly in timezones. We can have a channel that is almost always running.

It's just speculation. Their reasoning is the usual "It makes too much sense so it will happen, and Activision lolol." And it's not even Titan, so the chances of it being out in the next... say... 10 years are unlikely.

I just wanted to comment on the cost of living issue of having pro gaming houses in America. Seoul is not cheap, it is similar to a big city in America. One of the reasons why they can afford to have so many Koreans living full time off of pro gaming is because they cram 20 koreans into a house that is equal in size to a regular house, if not a little bigger.

The popularity of sc2 in Korea is definitely higher than in USA so I don't see many pro gaming houses in America cropping up but I don't buy the whole "America is expensive" argument because Seoul's cost of living ain't no joke.

I think the reason you see korean's stomping everyone, especially us in NA at SC2 is just freaking practice. Their top pros are putting in way more hours than our "pros" and it's not even close. Combined with better practice partners and team coaches (the people responsible for actually directing your practice) you're just going to see their top tier dominate. Idra has basically said he doesn't practice any more and he's the best player from America, and arguably the continent despite his mental problems. I saw Tyler say in an interview a couple months ago that he was practicing like 3 hours a day. Incontrol does like a billion things besides play and it doesn't seem like there is really a big push to change things. If korean's start making their way into more tournaments outside korea everyone else is going to have a hard time justifying their sponsorship deals and contracts when they aren't winning anything anymore.

Teams at some point are going to have to start taking things pretty seriously if they want to keep up.

This got me curious and after a little time of computer cores crunching the solution it came up with the following candidate for oddest build ever:

    6 Probe
    7 Pylon
    7 Gateway
    7 2*Probe
    9 Assimilator
    9 Cybernetics Core
    9 Probe
    10 2*Move Probe To Gas
    10 2*Probe
    12 Warp Gate Transformation
    12 Chrono Cybernetics Core
    12 2*Move Probe To Minerals
    12 Gateway
    12 Chrono Cybernetics Core
    12 Gateway
    12 Chrono Cybernetics Core
    12 Gateway
    12 Probe
    13 Chrono Cybernetics Core
    13 Move Probe To Gas
    13 Zealot
    15 Probe
    16 Chrono Cybernetics Core
    16 Pylon
    16 Chrono Cybernetics Core
    16 2*Move Probe To Gas
16 4*Convert Gateway To Warp Gate
    16 3*Zealot

The zealots are warping in at 4:52 game time...off a 7 gateway.

The only way a SC MMO would work is if it's a prequel by many many years. They can't risk killing future story and destroying the RTS franchise, if they want to be the top competitive game (which I'm sure they do) in e-sports.

Whenever you use a build order optimiser to come up with builds you need to make sure you specify a decent amount of probes to be one of the conditions of the build. If you don't, it comes up with stupid unrealistic stuff like 8 gateway and other such things.
