Well "casters" can lick my scrote. Their ridiculous style of play has completely destroyed the deliciousness of the rocket boots and made getting around the structures in my server a pain in the ass requiring me to craft gravity pots to get to my floating island base. The hotkeys for pots should be enough to make the rocket boots viable for them. Nerfing the boots and destroying everyones flying fun is awful.

I've never acquired the rocket boots so the change really makes no difference to me.
The one thing I hate about this patch though is torches / candles not working underwater. And the fucking glow sticks will disappear if you "use" them after a short period of time.

They are, but if you do anything aside from just holding one by having it selected in your item slots, they'll disappear after time.

I don't know about the Rocket boots, I only used them a little bit before the update and it seemed like they drained magic insanely fast. I mean, I guess now the rocket boots are like an upgraded cloud in a bottle, which isn't too bad, but originally, they just seemed to eat up too much mana for my liking. I was used to having a double jump, but switching to the Rocket boots, just moving normally (Which often involved double jumps) drained my magic reserves considerably.
I would think that a good compromise would be if the first x frames of thrust were "free" and then it started eating at your mana. Like, a quick free spurt to make the rocket boots usable for casters with the rest being dependent on magic
This hardcore more is just what I wanted, though I wish you could keep it at only dropping your stuff and not losing stats. Makes pvp way more meaningful. If you want harder hardcore, just enforce it upon yourself.

I feel so stupid; I was wondering, "Wait, how the fuck do I get to the orbs if I need a nightmare pickaxe to break the ebonstone?! I need the Eater of Worlds' shadow scales to make one!"

Alright folks. My server is still set to the our original map until tomorrow night or whenever you've mentioned that you've grabbed your stuff.
I'll leave it loaded until you drop me a message saying you've picked up the items you need from the world. Later Friday night, I'll create a new map and we'll start from there.
No rules as of yet, play whatever you want. We'll figure it out. It is a little cumbersome to coordinate with the world population every time we have to regenerate a new map for worlds. rebuilding super fort isn't the problem, it's just making sure people have grabbed their shit.
Also, if a couple more people want in the server, let me know, I'm not publicly posting IP's or anything as I don't want to deal with griefers and such. Current players, if you have friends you want to join, send me a PM on who and I'll send out the IP. If the IP gets posted, the password will change and you'll loose your invitation.
tl:dr: Grab yer shit. I'm starting a new map Friday later PST, if you can't get it by then, hit me up on steam, I'll load it for you if I'm around.

Maybe I'll actually try to play on a server this time, if my internet can handle it. I'll build me a little house away from everyone so I can die in the blood moon events. Also my character will be a crotchety old guy with a beard.

I forgot purification powder exists.
Also TNT is fun
Also you can make the spawn item for Eater of Worlds prior to breaking a single orb
I haven't played in about two weeks so I'm psyched to play tonight/this weekend. I'll have to relearn how to quickly move across the surface since my previous style relied heavily on the boots.
I also would like to play on a hardcore server for the PVP, would need to be a large map, and the change in the rocket boots would make having a sky fortress harder to find by chance and make battles more interesting. Still I can see the magic mirror being a bummer when trying to gank someone.

After ChaosHat convinced me to buy this game I spent two hours wandering around chopping down trees, mining ore, and hiding in a hole at night. I don't have even the slightest clue what I'm doing but it's pretty awesome.

Build a house for your guide. Then build a house to get other people to move in.
Did mud always fall if you tried to make a platform from it? It really put a cramp into my glowing mushroom lamp design.
It seems that the mud has become unstable. much like sand is now. but not entirely. ji think that 1 thick layers will plummet to the ground. gotta use a dirt support or place 2 bits.

Looks like I need to generate a new world.
Want to try out that guide voodoo doll, but my guide disappeared and never returned.
Just 8-10 hours of work plus a nap in between me and trying out new content...
How long should it take for jungle trees to start growing? I was under the impression that if I put a jungle layer above ground, trees would just grow on their own.
I want to dual-wield. So I can use two Sunfuries at once.
This is an awful idea.
I've been thinking that they should make all materials eventually collapse like sand does, only not immediately, and only if there's no background tiles 'supporting' them. Maybe it could mean floating islands eventually crash into the ground!
So here's something weird. Everyone talks about how the best thing to do, rather than just digging straight into the ground, is to find a cave system that opens onto the surface, and explore that. I never knew quite what they were talking about, because on the world I generated, there was no such thing. I figured you guys just meant, "Find some ground where you can kinda see a few openings further down, dig to those, look around for more."
Last night, I generated a new world to go looking for new content, and almost immediately found a cave system that, with incredibly minor alterations, ended up leading me down to Hell eventually.
And all I could think was, "They're right, this is easier."
I was unhappy reading about the rocket boots change, but after some playing I'm ok with it. The one second total of boost (and it doesn't have to be one continuous second which is nice) turns out to be more or less enough for me, and not needing mana to power it anymore means I can switch out my mana regen meteor armor for the hellstone armor (which, it turns out, now has a set bonus of 15% more melee damage rather than the extra defense). I also switched out the space gun for the one flaming magic missile spell now that I don't need the mana for the boots.
I'm trying to work towards the sandgun. I have the money for the parts, but the gun vendor won't sell them to me and I have all of one mandible so far. Antlions don't seem to be very common, and the wiki claims they only have a 10% drop rate.

Yeah, same here. It really puts a cramp in floating island exploring, but for regular gameplay I think it's fine. It's basically just a triple or quadruple jump.
Pleasantly surprised.

I'm upset that the rocket boots no longer make it easier for me to explore for floating islands, but for every thing else the change is perfectly fine. It does make jumping huge lakes of lava in Hell a little more interesting though...

This might already have been covered, but I'd love to see them make the (admittedly MAJOR change) of having two items equipped at once: one on the left click and one on the right click. I didn't get very far, but I don't think I found any items that really needed two mouse buttons to use. It'd add a whole new level of strategy with the combos you could gave:

What does a cloud in the bottle and grapple do that a pile of dirt can't do?

Does this mean placed torches burn out over time? So my tunnels and paths all lit by torches will be going dark soon?
