Someone explain to my work that I will have a hard time PAX East planning and helping peeps now that they've blocked PA.com. :(

I'll find a way on during work hours but kinda sucks.

Nice to see us congregating and getting excited for East 2012. It's gonna be awesome!

I don't want to suggest anything illegal on the PA forums, because that would be in bad form.

Ya I am going to try to find a decent one that won't raise alarms at work. Hope it works out. :)

You people are giving me some serious PAX itch. Which is brutal, because the next east is a long way away yet.

However, if I can make it, I will. And this time, I'm doing it on my terms. Hell, I don't think many of my friends will make it out anyway. That means hitting the pre-PAX dinner and meeting more of you (Like Frugus, my fellow Canadian), and seeing the town a bit before things start.

Another Canadian! How's it going, eh? I hail from the center of the universe myself (Canadian joke). You're more than welcome to join the posse we've got! I could use another hoser besides myself.

I always enjoy the conversations I get in when those yanks find out I'm from up here. They make me feel like I'm an unique exotic animal. Perpetuating stereotypes is another thing I'm quite good at too. Live in an igloo? Yep. Eat maple syrup with everything? Yep. Obsessed with hockey? Yep. (Okay, that last one might actually be true.)

Oh god no. I can't handle stuff like that anymore. I've been doing too many healthy things to my body, it rejects that sort of treatment anymore.

Hey Gameshark. Yeah, I'm from the Capital. I believe Frugus is from Montreal? Correct me if I'm wrong here?

Yeah, hanging out at the next PAX, assuming work lets me go then, sound good. As I'd suggest to Anaway, wait until the events, panels, and the like drop, figure out what's of interest, and who else wants to see those.

Didn't deal with too many "You're a Canadian?" kinda conversations, although while in line for the Game Design As Mind Control panel this year, I was chatting with a PAXer from Scotland. Found out we were both tabletop RPG nerds, asked her, "People here often put on awful fake accents from the UK and area during games, do you ever do fake North American accents for games?" Yes, apparently they do.

Hey, I fake Draconic all the time. Apparently my accent sounds like yappy dog compared to what it's supposed to be, so it's mistaken for Kobold a lot.

The Pre-PAX Dinner is a traditional get-together held the Thursday night before PAX at a restaurant in Seattle or Boston. You buy tickets in advance (the dinner almost always sells out), and you spend most of your Thursday night meeting and greeting and eating with your new best friends. There'll be more threads about it in the coming months, but you can get a feel for it by watching the PAX Prime dinner threads.

    Yup. I love my bagels.

And though I do enjoy the occasional poutine, yeah, that stuff is a bit too harsh for any human.

I can't help myself to some sexy italian poutine though. Damn. I wonder if the guys down under ever heard about it.

Can't say I do much Draconic. My dwarven is good, but I'm more commonly a GM, so I have to switch often between a wide array or terrible accents.

[hardcore nerd moment] Don't kobolds speak draconic? It kinda works. [/hardcore nerd moment]

Great idea. I didn't make it to the dinner last year, but I did the pre-PAX board game night. Another excellent way to meet people. There's also the Pub Crawl. Rdr might be able to let you know more about that. Although drinking age is 21 down there I think, so that one might be out for you. And I'm sure there are going to be more going on as well.

If I can make it to 2012, I'm going to get more of the pre-PAX events in. Also gonna see the city a bit this time.

Just looked up Poutine on Wikipedia. Hmmm. It evinces in me a feeling of both lust and profound wrongness. I think if it is warmer than 14F outside then this foodstuff is a crime against both oneself, and the whole of nature.

    I'll have two.

That was the joke, because the description in the 3.5 MM says they speak Draconic with an accent that's yappy-dog-ish. Though I know I'm wrong, I tend to think of it as a dialect of Draconic rather than an accent.

It's something that you can commonly get anywhere that serves poutine around here. It just may not be at the top of the menu list.

Okay, I admit, that one went over my head. I never read the 3.5 books. I've failed. But I'd get the Burning Wheel jokes, and maybe even a few of the Pathfinder ones.

There's always the board game night. Or other events. I almost forgot that there's also women only events, if you'd be interested in those.

But yeah, if not the pub, do something else. Don't worry, despite what RainbowTunnel might say, no on is going to make you play Monoploy.

    1) Don't worry, I had to look it up in my book in the first place - I didn't expect anyone to get it. I was really excited when you did, though!

While there are certain aspects of PAX that are certainly enhanced by the nectar of the gods, you can still have waaaaaaaaay more fun than is legally possible by not drinking at all. Didn't drink at all in Boston and it was probably the best PAX to date.

And come on noob, just accept Monopoly isn't happening - deal with it. Now let's stop talking about the boardgame that shall not be named and talk about a REAL mans boardgame,

Why cant it be time for paxeast 2012 already?

So do we know for sure that its set for the weekend of april 6-8?
Also I have all these credits for free hotel cash and so If i wanna use them I would have to wait 4 months before the event to book my stay so im wondering if its worth it, cause id like a place thats closer to the event ya know... ugh good thing i do have plenty of time cause as soon as I get back from boston I have 10 days to play my daughters 2nd birthday. It would be so awesome if after they are done with boston they came down just a little bit more to the south. Like NC =)

Hotel deals are usually available around October (at least it was the case last year). I do not know if your promotion will be compatible with the PAX offers however. To be honest there is not much information on the subject right now so there is little room for suggestion. Unless someone else has some inside scoops :)

I can tell you that I tried to reserve some hotels in advance that were close to the event and it was not possible because most of them were already reserved for the deals. I stayed at a Hotel that was further from the event last year and it was totally doable, though there are some disadvantages (some less obvious than others).

Its not a big deal if I cant use the cards I have but it would be nice, I guess Ill just have to wait and see how things go, Im just so impatient and want it to be tomorrow that im back in boston getting my nerd on. lol

There's a Nintendo Monopoly set, which I still need to buy. And then find people to play with.

There should be a speed chess tournament. Chess is a game, RIGHT???

We'll have to make time for this at PAX. Me, zerzhul, you, Dan, gameshark and maybe one more so the game doesn't last forevers. :)

Then I could actually have a conversation with you or something!
