I'll be reserving my hotel the second they're up (or as close to it as humanly possible) because I'll be staying at the attached hotel again come hell or high water!
Same. Next PAX I want to be one of those weirdo Canadians that will be serving free Tim Hortons out from his hotel room. America needs more Hortons.
Quantities may be very limited.
I will make extensive use of your services if you have Iced Caps. Extensive. I actually hear Timmies are slowly creeping into America via Buffalo and a few in NY.
Also to be one of the cool kids I decided to change my avatar too. Sadly my days as The General are no more.
Apparently there's a Tim Horton's in Columbus, OH. I didn't get a chance to go when I was there though.

As much as I would like to be used extensively, I don't see how I could handle Ice Caps. It's not just a matter of having a slush type machine, you also need that concentrated black petrol goo substance which provides the flavor and I am sure it is closely guarded by veteran hockey players who need a job after their retirement.
Hotel Pro Tip #1 : Wait until the Penny-Arcade Hotel listings are released. They have very decent deals going on and if anything is like last year, some of them will have shuttle services. They tend to be released October-ish. Note that the best spots go away quickly, like... 1st hour quickly.
additional pro tip: last year hotels were up before the home page actually announced that hotels were up (possibly even a day or two before, if i recall). so after registration starts, check the actual hotel link as regularly as you can, don't just go by the paxeast homepage updates. this might not happen again this year, but if you want the westin (you know you do), it's worth trying.

I just had it setup to refresh every 5 seconds. It still didn't seem fast enough...
EDIT: If I remember correctly, the variant I used was tab exclusive, so I could have different timers for different tabs. I only had the one timer going to refresh the hotels page, but I was able to use other tabs with the timer turned off.

Making eye contact is just something people should be doing on the reg. That and not being a creeper.
Eye contact..GREAT something I'm awful at. XD I'm so shy that my eyes tend to look towards the ground..
A handy trick I learned back in my shier days was if eye contact was too tough, look at someones eyebrows. To the other person it looks more or less the same as you looking at their eyes.

Oh. Yeah, that could work. I have met a friend there last year and I could barely look at him..Because of my shyness.
Glad to see the PAX East thread has started the madness again. I think if I go next year, I'll be skipping the Gym leader hunt. That consumed waaay too many hours. I haven't touched my game since PAX East ended.
Grr. I lost my Pokewalker sometime over the last week too. Togepi is going to be really bored....

I didn't even try looking for them. I saw one or two wandering during the con and we'd stop to chat, but we wouldn't battle. I figured they're ambushed enough. Though I did end up battling pretty much all of them (and losing).

And yet they were the most glorious losses. Amazing. My life was changed.
Sad to hear you won't be battling, FoggyKnight! Yours was one of the best teams I fought!
That guy with the ridiculously long scarf at PAX. Say Hi!
Love Pokemon? Going to PAX Prime/East/Aus/South? Challenge the PAX Pokemon League!!!
You guys should see the perspective from the other side of the table as an E4-we make it look easy, but it is actually quite difficult. It's very taxing to go all Friday and half of Saturday like, "Hardy har-har, we have nothing to do but stand around and look pretty!" ...Then of course our vacation ends and all of a sudden the floodgates are released.
In all seriousness though, you gym leaders truly are awe-inspiring. I fought a grand total of 15 people, that's probably not even half of what some of you did in a day. I salute you all, good peoples.

I was so close to beating you! So close. I have no regrets, though. Yours was the most intense battle I had, as it was the closest one I got to actually winning. Shuckles ftw. (And hats off to your intelligent team, as well.)

Tell me about it. I spent all Saturday last year looking pretty and it's just exhausting.
Seriously, though. With my meet-up duties and taking pictures and the general PAXiness (that's a word, right?) of it all, I never did get a chance to battle anyone or even conduct any trades. I hope to get around to that more this year.

As a gym leader I fought almost 50 people Friday and Saturday. I was really over it come Saturday and didn't even partake on Sunday. Oh wait, a sad looking kid guilt tripped me into playing him on Sunday...damn anime kid eyes.
This is partially my fault though. When I decided to be a gym leader and looked at the other gym leader's teams I saw that they were trying to cover their weaknesses and such. I originally had a decent Fighting team and cheerfully gave it to someone else cosplaying as a fighting type pokemon or something...can't remember clearly. So, I picked grass and figured I'd be like the first gym leader in the game. Nice and easy. I just didn't expect that about 30 battles in and only seeing 4-5 different pokemon tops that 1 hit killed each of my pokemon it would become so mind numbing.
If I do it next year I already know of a decent diverse team to choose so it should be a bit more fun for me. And I won't let myself get stuck battling for 4 hours in a row.
Rdr, every time I walked by, you were surrounded by people. And you looked so numbed...next time I offer to bring you something, take me up on it!
The LadyDan and I will be visiting Boston later this month, and I'm pumped to get back in the city and experience some culture I couldn't during PAX. Rainbow, if you have any tips for navigating or suggestions for spots, we'll take 'em!

haha yeah..it was cool the first couple hours. The guy dressed up as Umbreon had put in more time than me and was way more numb. I don't even know if he did it Saturday/Sunday. He battled pretty much all of Friday.
I still haven't done the touristy stuff in Boston. This past pax I was in town almost a week before but I was kind of experiencing Boston from a person living their's point of view because I am strongly thinking about moving there. Maybe next year I can do the MMT and hit up the tourist stuff.

Navigation in Boston = ha ha ha. No but really, all of the original Boston roads were made where the cows decided to graze..... That, and I'm so directionally challenged I will do you a favor and simply not answer.
As for the Umbreon guy (my friend Aleck), he was battling all weekend, non-stop. He even came in dressed in full neon green on Sunday. It was intense, but he said he enjoyed it and wanted to be a leader again next year.
It'd be great just to chill with everyone in Boston! Just keep in mind that the T shuts down at 12:30am, and the BCC is in the middle of nowhere.

Last PAX we arrived a bit earlier just for that. This place has so much history and interesting things to do that we only scrapped the surface.
The museum is quite impressive. Definitely world class.
Remember that Cambridge is really close, Harvard is a nice place to visit.
Restaurants run the gammut. I suggest you check out the old Epic Noms thread for suggestions. Pay special attention to the "nice couple's evening out" section.
We could talk about this for a while but it would just be thread flooding (actually I'm in a hurry and can't "Wall of text").

Aleck, that's right. Ya, we battled next to each other for like 2-3 hours on Friday. Pretty cool kid. Glad he had fun because it didn't seem like it when we were sitting next to each other.

He was definitely annoyed at some people, but I got the impression he couldn't wait to do it again.
Here's my shame - I never really played a Pokemon game.
I had a DS only for the first PAX and I barely ever got time to use it. All I had was Tetris which was so hard to get, but we never found the tournament for it.
I bought Pokemon Black just for Pax EAST 2010 and though I booted it, I quickly realized I had no idea what I was doing. My pokemon was out of energy and I could not find a way to replenish it. I never got around to trade a pokemon at PAX, which was a personal achievement I wanted to... achieve.

I'm with you here, man. I never played a Pokemon game. Don't have a handheld (doesn't really fit my lifestyle). But, I'll see you in a Tetris tournament anytime.
Really, though, I just consider it the flavor of nerd you are. We can't be into all of it. There's just not enough time.
Gameshark, I know some are. I'm not. Work won't let me. But I recall at East this year meeting someone from Scotland who had attended just about every PAX, be it East or Prime. Impressive, especially considering the distance involved.
I used to go to Prime, but East has made itself just as awesome, if not more. Now that the PAX experience is just down the road, I don't even put Prime on my radar.
flatline, that's a cool idea. There are so many people, not many would notice per say I think, but certainly a few would.
Agreed. The obvious extension to my original idea would be to engineer your costume such that it can 'shed'/transform from one evolution to another right there on the con floor while people applaud wildly. Obviously you'd have to be pretty skilled at costumery, and it would probably make the first evolution a little bulkier and less elegant, but it would be pretty cool I guess - especially if the effect could be reset fairly easily (i.e., you didn't have to destroy the entire outer layer to perform the transmogrification).

As much as I would like to be used extensively, I don't see how I could handle Ice Caps. It's not just a matter of having a slush type machine, you also need that concentrated black petrol goo substance which provides the flavor and I am sure it is closely guarded by veteran hockey players who need a job after their retirement.

Ahahaha! Yes, sir! *salutes*
Don't worry - looking at the ground is better than at someone's cleavage.
Unless you're tall. In which case, it's the same thing. :P
Don't worry. A little time at PAX and that shyness thing won't be a problem. The trick is bringing that attitude home with you.
A handy trick I learned back in my shier days was if eye contact was too tough, look at someones eyebrows. To the other person it looks more or less the same as you looking at their eyes.

LOL I am nowhere being tall at all :V..
I can see this. A forum conversation would be a lot easier than a conversation in person if you were shy.
Still, try to work past that at PAX, if you can. Everyone's really friendly there.
