I think the scope of the game is going to be much larger than what they might have originally planned. I was under the assumption it would be a spiritual successor to D&D : Shadow over Mystara. With the way they've been talking about it, it will probably be more akin to Odin Sphere and Muramasa in scope.
This was always going to be a retail title unless RD was making the classic 2D game joke.
I was half joking, half serious. There have been so many conflicting reports on this game that I had no idea if they were planning for it to be a 1-2 hr brawler or something bigger like Odin Sphere.

I've been hunting for any mention, any update on this game...
I've noticed something odd on the official site-namely, the Amazon and Sorceress art seems to be...missing. Just, not there. Along with that, the placeholder boxart also lacks those characters. Then there's the lack of the trailer, which is mysteriously unavailable, and the fact that not a single screenshot on the site shows the combat, just the backgrounds. Not a single sprite in sight.
Kind of wondering if in the course of securing the new publisher those characters are being redesigned or something, given the, uh, curious appearances those characters had. Certainly reworking the appearance of two playable characters could easily explain the delay.
That could be the case. However, I doubt that's the main reason for them going dark. Vanillaware has been bad with putting stuff out there. Just look at the debacle with getting Grand Knights History localized.
Eh, they've had the pictures obscured on the NA site for a long time now. The original art is still up on the JPN version. Likely they just didn't want to go to the expense of adding an age gate for sensitive American eyes.

I don't know. I'm half expecting they'll chop the roster down to just the Elf, Warrior, Dwarf and Wizard classes.
Time isn't the issue with Vanillaware. It's management. They seem to be bad at it. They're a small team and try to stretch themselves thin. I'm hoping with Atlus helping them out they'll be able to put this out next year.

They're great at quality assurance, if nothing else. They just need to be careful about giving IPs like Muramasa to hacks like Ignitiion.
Having only just heard of this game and watched the trailers I can safely say this may be what forces me to finally put my hand in my pocket and get a PS3.
I always feel like Vanillaware games would be way better if they were just feature-length movies that were half "people getting in fights with demons", half "looped animations of eating food".
Yeah, I've been wondering what happened to this. Vanillaware has been quiet about it for a while. I'm also surprised that anyone who's played Muramasa would be shocked at the Sorceress' design--did they just happen to miss giant-chested-fox-girl-assistant from Momohime's campaign?
So much of that trailer is amazing and I'm a huge fan of both Odin Sphere and Muramasa... I just don't really understand the character art. They went so excessively far up the path of sex appeal that it came around to grotesque.
Obviously some people don't mind or don't see it and I know this is just my opinion, but I feel like they will really be losing customers because of it. Hell, they lost me.
I'm not sure I'll ever understand why over-sexualized character designs freak people out so much. I just kind of shrug and/or appreciate the view. Are you afraid your parents/friends/significant other will think less of you or something? Can't you just play as the Elf and ban anyone from playing as the Sorceress?

It's also kind of Vanillaware tradition, going way back to GrimGrimoire.
some people find that a character's design being "she's a huge pair of tits" is more off-putting than actually looking at the design itself, and choose not to support companies who make such design decisions

Do you guys think that the original creative direction will be intact? Will we get huge, semi-randomly generated areas, with choices that evolve the way the game plays out? Corpse collection and recycling?
Or do you think it will be relegated to a more River City Ransom level of customization?
Or maybe even reduced down to a level of the old D & D arcade games?
Amazons in fantasy art are very usually wearing little and sexualised. I'm just saying that considering the art influences it's not inconsistent with the world's style.
But do they only have one titty in DC, like in the myths?
Because this would totally justify relegating then to the A section of T 'n A.

That reason was because Ignition was making up info about the game.

Any thoughts?

I'm not a fan, but it's their thing.

I am fervently hoping for the first outcome.
