If nothing else, I can't be too mad at the character designs, because for every jacked up girl, there's an equally jacked up guy to counterbalance. Gotta give them credit for objectifying both sexes. Equal opportunity and all that.

As much as I like Mystara, this is an actual new game. If Capcom actually decided to make a new D&D beat'em up, then we would be having a different conversation.

I've got no problem with the over sexualised character designs in this game (my personal opinion is that it's so obviously over the top it falls in to the realm of parody, whether intentional or not) but the equal opportunity argument never holds muster with these things as the sexualisation is always from the male perspective. Men get their pecks pumped up and women get other areas. If the men were muscle bound Adonis's in tiny thongs with their massive bouncing testicles and shiny wang popping out then you might have a point, but as it is I don't think it stands (and I also don't think it matters or needs defending, so my post is pretty pointless I'll admit).
I've had this avatar since the E3 that revealed the game for the Vita, so you know I'll be getting this. Even with the announced Capcom re-releases of the D&D beat 'em up arcades (which I'll also pick up, because you can't have too many beat 'em ups).
I do have some concerns that some of the original ideas and mechanics that were posted about in the game's early development won't make it to release, but I remain optimistic that the game will have replayability and at least some customization. I'm not expecting day-one DLC for $1-5 for little things like extra colours, or new hats either, mainly because that's never really been Vanillaware's or Atlus' style.
I just hope the game releases in North America relatively quickly after Japan gets it. I don't think I can wait much longer.

Really? By all means, show me the male character with a dick so big it's spilling out of his pants in the same way those ridiculous tits are.
What, you can't? Oh yeah, because what you said is completely false that's why.

It matters because it has long reaching effects on our society and people still insist on arguing that it's completely ok to do BECAUSE EVERYONE LIKES TITZ RITE?!?!

I can't find a clean image of the scene at 0.58, but that dude.
There's male power fantasy, and then there's anatomy even Rob Liefeld would never draw. That's what I meant.
But since you're likely to scream and bitch anyways, the windmill is over there. I don't care.

I agree, but like I say I view cases like this (and the Bayonetta controversy) to be a valid artistic expression because it is so OTT. It's games (and films, and music, and books) where the sexism is normalised that I consider to be harmful and which make me feel uncomfortable. To me, content that screams at you as a consumer 'I am ridiculously oversexualised', or 'I am horrificly violent' is making a statement, and shines a light on the more pernicious sexism and violence that is in evidence amongst its peers. Same reason one of my favourite bands is The Dwarves, despite their lyrics and imagery being incredibly sexist and offensive.
That said, that's just how I personally read media. I don't pretend to assume I know how other people would read the same content.
You mean the perfectly common Conan the Barbarian?
The dwarf and the knight maybe look common. Though the knight has a weirdly disproportionately small waist for some reason.
But that guy, and the amazon? Double-u-tee-eff.
We got normal looking guys and gals on one side, and 'roided up guys and gals on the other. Everybody is getting jacked up. That was my original point.
I like how the elf looks. About the only character art that doesn't bend my brain.

Well, they made Dragon's Dogma. Pretty beat-em-up in my opinion.

And the funny thing is, the very first bitching I ever saw about the character designs in DC, was about the "paedo appeal" card being pulled with the Elf. I swear to [god/dess] I am not making this up.

Was Dragon's Crown originally supposed to be Vita-only? If multiplayer is a big part of it, I'll have to pick this up for PS3.

So lemme get this straight: I've heard some conflicting information about online play with the Vita version; some say it's ad-hoc only, others say there's fully functional online. I'd pick up a Vita at some point for things like Gravity Rush, Ys Celceta and this, but I'm really hoping that DC Vita has online play. Can anyone clarify this matter?

I'm so getting this game, though. Muramasa was probably my favorite game on the Wii. I just hope the soundtrack is as good with this one.
Also, dat dancing mouse.
This makes me Lufia 1's Ending levels of melancholy.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
At least having RCR levels of customization would be sheer bliss, though.
Customizing my Zon's movelist is such a hype thought.
I was just thinking that when watching that video: It reminds me of the old D&D arcade game.
Which would be more exciting news if they didn't just announce days ago that those very games are coming back.
Oh well, still keeping an eye on this game at least.
I'd like to think this game is partly responsible, but maybe I'm overestimating Vanillaware's pull.
Also, Kamitani was an animator on the D&D games, I think.

And hope for cross-buy! :winky:
As long as I've ever heard, it was planned to be on both.
Though if it's cheaper on the Vita, I hope it does get cross-buy for the PS3, cause that will easily justify the extra $10 for me.
For some reason I was always under the impression that the PS3 one was the lead version.
It's more of an actiony Monster Hunter, really.
Let me check if the image is available.

Fuck.
That is the butchest looking male Elf that I've ever seen in my life.
I'm dead serious."
I'd say it might have been a cross between Monster Hunter, Breath of Fire, Warzard/Red Earth and the arcade D&D games.
