I feel like Adroit Hands would be a waste on the casters. Sure, I know you reduce the cooldown time on items and weapon swapping for elements, but I feel like if you're needing to swap twice in such a short period, you might as well switch to the weapon with the element you'll be more effective with, rather than swap for one enemy, and swap for a second enemy.
Like, that's 12 points that could go into other skills for better killing efficiency that will be better than saving 2 seconds on weapon swapping twice.
But awesome. I have slow, will max that out. I spent a couple of points on the skill that gives more mana for hitting basic attack, but that's fine. It's just 2 points. I mostly wanted to know which of his nukes are worth taking because he has so many.
Wizard must haves are Slow, Slow, Slow, and also Slow
...
It may not sound glamorous, but the main thing you bring to the table as a Wizard is Slow. That is way better than it sounds though because Slow is an absurdly powerful spell and it works on bosses. You also do a lot of damage, but nothing you're going to do will match the potency if slowing a boss down so much that they can barely move or attack.

I... I've never seen Slow in use before with all the pug Wizards I've played with...

It lowers the cooldown after using a spell, it's not even about switching staves. (Fire staff will get you through 99% of everything anyway, especially with Fire Ward)
Wizard must haves are Slow, Slow, Slow, and also Slow
Blaze will be your best boss killing spell, along with Fire Ward. (Actually increases fire damage you do)
Spirit Up to increase max mana is a must have, and the skill that increases mana regen speed is nice. I don't recommend taking the skill that grants mana on regular attack hits, but 1 point into the skill that restores mana on kills doesn't hurt (15 mana per kill is better than 0 mana per kill)
And then some obvious ones like Levitate, Adroit Hands, Evade (makes your teleport invuln frames longer), and Deep Pockets
As for the other spells, I don't really like Golems, Fire Blast or whatever is flat out worse than Blaze for single target damage, Storm is decent as a full screen crowd control, and the Lightning spell is kind of whatever. Extinction is apparently very good at super high levels, to vanish enemies with absurd health pools.
Finally, Meteor is a very cool spell, but it takes like six seconds to cast and during that time I could have dropped my full combo on a boss and murderized them.

Also Golem is worthless, most places where you can get wood immediately afterwards contain fire areas, pretty much invalidating it. It also takes extra damage from fire, i.e. worthless on dragons.
Minions aren't even that good early game, they're just amusing :P I wish they'd beef up their survivability by about a factor of 2. Then they'd be more useful as the distractions they are.

True on the Slow for Wizard.
Not only does it have a short cast period, it really lasts. Just about any boss that loves to teleport/leap around Iike a mofo drops to like a third of its normal speed and you can bring down a remarkable amount of hurt on creatures that otherwise depend on their speed to be so deadly in the first place.
I can't help it though, I love the Wood Golems. I know they're not particularly strong, and the skeleton mooks the Sorceress summons are embarrassingly faster and stronger overall, but there's something fucking awesome about turning any damn thing into a walking minion and still getting all the goods in the process.

I kind of wish there was a bit more attack variations with the elements.
Ice Staves are functionally identical to Fire Staves, except for doing a different elemental damage, doing less damage overall, and freezing. The actual attacks are all exactly the same though.
Lightning at least has some different shit going on for it, though I'm not really a fan of the attack set on Lightning staves either.

Not entirely. Their hard-O air attack hits on the way down, and then spreads into a splash that can hit a target multiple times. The hard-O on air fireballs hits once going down and then does one explosion that hits once. So ice staves do more damage on larger targets(bearing in mind appropriate enemy resistances) than fire staves. This is especially important because you're going to be in the air when you're not using book spells in order to abuse the levitate air damage bonus.
Man, I can not beat the Red Dragon on Normal. I've apparently maxed out my level and still can't do it. I've tried it with Bots (Kind of useless, though they do always grab the shield) and pugging. The closest I've gotten is like 20% of this health left. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. As a dwarf is there a better way to hit him then air attacks? I can't find a spot on hte ground where I can punch him!
Also, I thought I've heard people talk about swapping weapons for a BASH -> Weapon Swap -> BASH, but I can't seem to do it. I had 2 axes in my bag, I hit O and try to quick select the next axe, nothing happens. What gives? I was hoping to chain O attack the dragon death.

Unfortunately, it's not as cut and dry to be all O -> weapon swap -> O -> weapon swap -> repeat. You can do it twice in a row fairly easily, but then you'll be stuck waiting for the cooldown on the weapon on the ground to finish because you can't speed that one up. The perk to taking Adroit Hands for that kind of build is to speed up the timer on your inventory. Once the weapon on the floor is ready, you can pick it up and your cooldown on weapon swapping should also be finished so you can O -> weapon swap -> O again. That downtime in the middle lets you get one good Frenzy off.
Unfortunately for dwarf, there's no easy way to handle the dragon in the escape tunnel. Your uppercut on the last hit will do damage, so you can punch 4 times to get it out and avoid wasting time frenzying. Eagle dive will also hit a couple of times, but you'll have a tendency to shift above the dragon's hitbox. Honestly, stay in the treasure room and punch it's claw/head as much as you can. You can kill him in the treasure room as long as you're decent at dodging his breath and stomps. If you keep dying, all you're losing is a bit of money, which comes in spades in higher difficulties.
Move the red dragon down to the very bottom of the screen, and he'll no longer do his fire breath. Then all he can do is swipe, bite, and jump, all of which are relatively easy to deal with.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
Harpy chicks are maybe the cutest thing ive ever seen.
You won't be saying that when you're being mauled to death.
Speaking of deadly cute things, damn Killer Rabbit just lucked out of being legit killed. I had him on the ropes when the majority of my CPU team got thwomped, and couldn't finish the darn thing off before time was up. I was able to take down Medusa on her first appearance and got some quests done during the night, so no big deal.
If you keep dying, all you're losing is a bit of money, which comes in spades in higher difficulties.
Tell me about it. Just hit level 60 and I'm sitting on 1 million gold without anything to do with it. I don't die much and I don't pop consumables like crazy. Class items, sure, but bought consumables? Not really. Morgan just doesn't stock the items I want. Heal Potions L with 3 or more uses, Strong Draught Ls with two or more uses, same with Defence Tonic Ls... Maybe the odd Emergency Ring with 3+ uses.
I spent a good while just watching and learning the Red Dragon fight (yeah yeah, Elf is ez modo) but here are its attack patterns in the treasure room:
If a target is in melee reach and is in front of jaw, lunge for a bite.
If a target is in melee reach but cannot be bitten, go for a claw swipe
No target in front of the dragon, but is in melee reach, tail swipe
Nothing in melee range and not on the lowest planes, breath attack or jump and try to squash a player
Nothing in melee range and on lowest plane, jump and try to squash a player
'That' is all there is to it. Every attack in Dragon's Crown is telegraphed in some way, such that you are given an adequate amount of time to react and hit that evade button. It's just a matter of learning how to read those signals and not get lost in the chaos.
As an example, if the dragon uses its breath attack, focus on double jumping + air evade and not getting hit by that breath. It is the dragon's most powerful attack. Once you land, keep out of melee range, get to the bottom of the screen and focus on not standing in the fire. The dragon will soon probably jump so watch the shadows and keep evading to avoid getting insta-killed when a dragon lands on you.
Make sure you jump or evade the landing shock since that does a decent amount of damage and knocks you down. Concentrate for the next few seconds evading falling debris, and then you'll have a nice window of opportunity to counter-attack.
Once you get the opportunity to close in and deal melee damage, attack from the FRONT and be prepared to quickly backstep out, or evade through to the other side when you see the dragon pull its head back for a lunge. Why would you attack from the front? The telegraph animation for the bite is a lot easier to read and time than the tail swipe. It also forces the dragon into a more predictable pattern rather than having to second guess if it's going to turn around to face you, or if it'll just tail swipe you, knock you down then jump on you.
Started a run at the Castle of the Dead last night with my Level 32 Amazon. Completed 4 Quests and got the last 3 Talismans I was missing by the time I was fighting the Pirates in Ghost Ship Cove, only for my power to blip out and then come right back on. I was PISSED. An hour and a half gone.
Of course then the wife whips out the ole "It's just a game". I was not pleased.
I would be pissed if I lost the last run I did. Full 9 stage chain on Hard mode, B route for all bosses except the Ancient Capital which was Harpy because we wanted to conserve our resources. Was playing with a dang nice Sorceress. Should have gotten the PSN name before we killed the last boss.
Someone give me a dwarf build, including common skills. listed here because almost every site is blocked from work here. I'm debating restarting a new dwarf instead of keeping the current lvl 19 with 1 point in lots of things

The build I really like (and seems popular) is to focus on power smash and cycle between two weapons. This focuses on upping the dwarf Grand Smash skill and the common Adroit Hands which reduces the global cooldown for swapping between weapons. You will have some short, unarmed downtime between weapon smashes.
Power Bomb is great for trash mobs. Not sure how relevant it is at end game once you get a more of those powerful versions of mobs that seem immune to it.
Beyond that, I really like both of the defense up skills (Rock Skin and Toughness). I'm going to focus more on the passive one Toughness as I really hate getting knocked around by enemies, and put the min skills needed into Rock Skin to max Toughness.
I used to really like the Eagle's Dive, but I dropped it with a recent respec. The damage can be nice especially with Powder Mastery, but the recovery time is very long and (to me) not worth it. You drop bombs as you soar through the air.
I would drop one point in Frenzy; I'm debating myself if it's worth more as I cycle Grand Smash. And the same with Lethal Fists I had once invested heavily, and while I still punch between Grand Smashes, I'm not sure it's worth it.
I like the bomb, barrel, and fire braclet skills. I'd say pick one (probably bomb or barrel as those are rangish options) and Powder Mastery.
I like Deep Pockets to 2 (not sure about max) and Evasion to max are needed as well.
I used to have some points in those health on pick up stuff, but it's really not needed I think in the long run. I will probably put a point or two into Nutritionist, but that's it.
Edit: I'd stick with some points in everything for now and see what you personally like. You can earn a limited number of respec potions once you unlock Hard mode, so it's pretty important to play around and see what you like. This is especially since the cycled Grand Smash and Adroit Hands need some high levels (for the Normal difficulty) to get going.
I'm so glad this thread isn't just another ridiculous debate about the art. If people wanna add me on PSN I'm free to play sometimes! Name is TSB_Heathurr
I'm level 90 - went in to the Chaos Lab level 9 last night to give it a shot.
That did not work out. Any advice on dealing with his ice spires? He basically beat the fuck out of me.
The 3 Life Point prayer is nice. I think I wound up tithing to Althena 2-3 times just killing the Demon King. Mind you, I only had 1 other assist, and it was PC controlled. An elf who seemed to know her stuff between firing Power shots and kicking for arrows. The whole fight is super chaotic, you're just bound to die a few times between gravity wells and nukes and the overall number of minions on screen.
I'm down to help out whenever you like, Chance. I'm an EST time zone player if that helps anything. :P

What are the requirements for the respec potions? I really want to remove the points I have invested in Holdout Dagger, Backstab and Maintenance, which would buy me a new rank in Power Shot at the very least. I'm a bit mixed about dropping the three points I have in Deadly Boots since it's so cheap, but I really don't think much of the damage from kicks in the long run, so getting back those points could mean I get some more Toxic Extract or start fleshing out my common skills.
My current (planned) skill build is looking like this:
Power Shot Lv10(MAX) Power 320 Shockwave range 170%
Rapid Fire Lv3 Shots in Volley +3
Spacious Quiver Lv5(MAX) Arrow max +15
Clone Strikes Lv4(MAX) Multiple shots +4
Toxic Extract Lv5(MAX) Number of uses: 50
Salamander Oil Lv5(MAX) Number of uses: 50
Elemental Lore Lv7 Spirit magic elemental Dealt damage +70%
Battle Hardened Lv5(MAX) Damage taken -50% while aiming Knockback resistance: 83
Nutritionist Lv5(MAX) Recovery Amount +50%
Adroit Hands Lv7(MAX) Item use cooldown -50%
Evasion Lv3(MAX) Number of evasions +3
Deep Pockets Lv3(MAX) Number of Bag slots: 10
Spent SP: 153 Remaining SP: 2
There's one alternative point distribution there, which is to drop Adroit Hands to 25% and bump Elemental Lore to max, which is a 18% damage boost compared to level 7.
I challenged hard mode Ancient Dragon at level 60 last night, and failed miserably. Simply couldn't get enough free time to hit the darn thing once it started summoning adds without getting whittled down by AoE damage or those effing crossbow using skeletons interrupting my shots. A somewhat humbling experience given that I was using my best gear that had around 56% damage reduction, another 15% damage reduction against Dragons and about 22% magic damage reduction. The bow is level 54 S rank with +15% damage and +20% additional damage as Ice. So yeah, I strutted in, thinking that it was going to be a done deal. And I get destroyed once while solo, and the second time when I brought in 3 NPCs. I may need to reconsider my strategy, or try to grab some PC assistance...

I have Extinction on my Wizard for just such an occasion. *Whap* dead.
Managed to unlock Infernal difficulty on my 3rd attempt. The price was heavy though, two of my better 'salvaged' corpses were scattered into the winds as a result, which is leaving my personal NPC roster a lot thinner. I'll probably need to run around in network mode and pick up some more bodies.
A route bosses in Infernal are level 72... I'm level 62. Maybe I'll finish off my quests first.
Definitely starting to believe the old rumour about Luck and the Wizard. I haven't gotten a single S rank treasure from chests or bosses and I just unlocked co-op for him. Previous characters had gotten at least 2 or 3 by now.
It's rare enough to see an A rank treasure! Let's hope that now that I've got some higher level bosses and access to runes for THF, I'll see more A-S Ranks.
Aaaugh the patch rebalanced the cooking! I can no longer get +7 attack from carrot soup >.< Carrot soup was my backup food when there's nothin' better around.

Blah. I was most interested in "lightning hands" people are talking about, what skill is that?
That's the build I'm actually talking about. The Power/Grand Smash the dwarf has is a multi-hit aoe lightning attack. While it takes a sec to charge up the attack, you are invincible during it. So by maximizing Grand Smash and Adroit Hands you are maxing your time pooping lightning.

So when does Elf start to become the "boss killer" class people described it as earlier in this thread? I'm admittedly early in the game trying out all the different classes, but at least through the first 4 or 5 dungeons, my Elf's power shots do equal or lesser damage than I could easily do with any of the melee classes in the same amount of time just smashing the square button.

That did not work out. Any advice on dealing with his ice spires? He basically beat the fuck out of me.
Added you, I'm ModelZX.

On Infernal the only thing I hate more than crossbows in the hands of enemies is the Dark Pirate.
Fuck that guy. If a dwarf doesn't grab him or my petrify/freeze axe doesn't proc on him, he will just decimate my life points.
I have Extinction on my Wizard for just such an occasion. *Whap* dead.
A route bosses in Infernal are level 72... I'm level 62. Maybe I'll finish off my quests first.
It's rare enough to see an A rank treasure! Let's hope that now that I've got some higher level bosses and access to runes for THF, I'll see more A-S Ranks.

...consarn it.
Between levels 1-20 I got three S rank treasures with my Wizard
Yay RNG!
