So when does Elf start to become the "boss killer" class people described it as earlier in this thread? I'm admittedly early in the game trying out all the different classes, but at least through the first 4 or 5 dungeons, my Elf's power shots do equal or lesser damage than I could easily do with any of the melee classes in the same amount of time just smashing the square button.
mid-20's?
once you can pick up salamander oil and clone shot her damage starts getting huge.
what does this mean? they took out that fat stack of loot that could pop up? that was fun to see tho. why would they do that?
No idea what Dyion's talking about - the loot fountains are still in there, but now you have to keep the cursor hovering over the spot instead of clicking.

Things feel much more rare since the patch. A or S rank loot (no prayer buffs), shiny trinkets galore from the hidden twinkles spawn much less (I used to average 3 or more per dungeon, now I'm lucky to see 1).
I mean, I know this game is about 90% RNG once you leave the town, but with over 110 hours clocked in, my experiences pre-patch were what I'd gotten used to. Now it just feels like there's a slight shift towards the game being a little bit harder and less free with loot and exp.

I haven't noticed any changes to the drop rate for higher quality items since the patch (granted I'm only speaking from ~38 hours pre-patch and 4 hours post patch) S and A ranked items are still in roughly the same proportion and you have to chain to get those better items more consistently. All I can say really is RNG is being RNG. Not that I'm particularly fussed, I've been praying to the RNG gods for 8 years performing arcane rituals to try to tempt said gods to smile favourably for once and stop giving crap I can't use.

Clone Strike and Salamander Oil are the two trump cards Elves have in boss fighting. A good level Power Shot and some Evade levels is also part of her kit in being able to hammer out Power Shots across the 'thicker' parts of a boss without caring if they're on the ground or in the air. The first time you light up a boss with Salamander Oil is when you know you're onto something.

Patch is, uh, okay.
As a Wizard player, I've definitely seen my treasure hit. Mostly C grade at best. Hell, the 'Treasure Hunter's Friend' runes are now giving empty chests that shoot fucking arrows.
Just met the Gargoyle Gate. No way in hell I'm soloing that, even with seven levels on the thing.

Just specced my Amazon into shockwave (got rid of all but 1 point in the skill that gives +dmg at low health). Oh my goodness. Why haven't I been doing this the entire time?
Time was, I'd leap into the air, spin across the screen and crash myself axe-first into a caster to one-shot him.
Now I slam my axe into the ground from the other side of the room and watch the shockwave obliterate him. Nice.

Shockwave is especially hilarious if you pair it with the skill that makes it stronger/travel further

Yeah, the GG fight is just brutal - good luck getting all that stuff together amidst all the chaos. I imagine it'd be a lot better with other players coordinating together.
The only problem I ever had with the gate was the first time through and not knowing how the deuce to load and fire the cannon. Once I learned you "attack" with the cannonball to load and "attack" with the torch to fire, it just became a matter of making sure to get as many blasts in as possible before it explodes.

I have, but I can't max it without taking points from other Amazon skills. Brandish? That's gotta' be full. Neck splitter? You know that's gotta' be full. Berzerk? Gotta' be full. So I haven't maxed it - but it's still pretty silly powerful. Makes beautifully short work of lines of foes, too.

Just got all the talismans! lv 34 and a half. 35 is the highest level you can get on normal right?
I also have a few quests left to do...if I go ahead and 'beat' the game, will those roll over to the new difficulty? Or should I beat them before fighting the final boss?
You still gain normal exp and levels if you stay in Normal. I think I was almost 50 when I finally started Hard for real. You just get your stats capped, that's all. So if you want to stay on Normal to finish up the quests, there's no reason not to.

I had that happen about 5 times before the patch. Laughed my ass off every time.
I can't seem to find a game I have a decent connection to, which really sucks. Also regretting that I got curse on my sorceress. It's conceptually neat, but I just can't seem to hit shit with it. I'm considering using the amnesia potion my dwarf earned on her to get out of it :P

No problem. Beat 12-3 on my own to win a hammer that boosts Grand Smash damage by 30%. Too bad it doesn't have any of the CC options my other hammers in my top 3 bags have. CC is so important in the late game when you run into Dark Pirates at least once a dungeon. And woe if you end up with the Pirate/Genie boss fight.
Hate those dark pirates. First time I met one it wiped like four life points off me. Now I treat them with kid gloves.

I really, really
Really
Hope that the Wood Golem is awesome on the final rank. I do like how on the higher rank you can keep hitting up boxes and barrels to embiggen your golem into a bigger brute and all, but it's not terribly aggressive or fast. Tougher, sure, but...
Why can't it pick up and use stuff? Or, I don't know, be poisonous? Or be really good at throwing guys?
I guess I'm just really hoping I haven't wasted all these skill points, y'know?

Tried a couple other classes today (Dwarf still best).
Amazon didn't feel great going through the first level (actually died once at Harpy...), but she feels like getting even a couple skills really helps out. However, didn't like her power smash attack. Really disappointed how you hit it, she does a big windup...then like jumps and smashes her weapon into the ground right at her own feet? You were standing there! There are no bad dudes in the physical space you occupy! The Dwarf smash (and even the Fighter's) just feels so much better to me.
Tried Sorceress for the tutorial and really didn't dig it. Maybe the casters are more fun if you actually play more than 2 whole minutes...I don't know. I guess I just like to get in and smash stuff too much to bother being a caster and waiting for mana and all that. DWARF SMASH!
Sorceress definitely shines in a group. She also does decent damage if you get the hang of using spells in the air.
Amazon is a glass canon. Her DPS is second to none once you can Incite Rage and War Paint on fools. She gets even more ridiculous when you throw in Iron Will and have one of the chaos equipment that recovers health per hit.
Can anyone confirm for me whether the Item Degradation Reduced By X% applies to just that piece, or all worn gear?
Amazon is really butts until you get some skills, but once she has them, and you figure out to play her, she is a fucking monster. I didn't really figure out what her deal was until level 5 or 7ish.
Iced the Kraken and Chimera like they were nothing; still getting stomped by the Red Dragon. I shot a couple of you folks (vagrant, El Fantastico, Custom, and Allforce off the top of my head) a friend request, so heads up.

Oh my.
Totally accidentally found the way into the Illusiory Lands waaaaaay too early. Hey there big fella. Let's not do that again til I get the other talismans, 'kay?
What actually happens if you don't have all 9 and go?
It doesn't stop you from entering or fighting, but you get told that the dragon is invulnerable until you collect the talismans. So there's not much you can do other than retreat or die.

Heh... Amazon... butts... errhum *cough*
Anyhow, I'm finding that ALL classes need a good half dozen or so skill points before they actually 'click in' and become fun to play. I just started rolling a Fighter after getting to the point that the only thing I can do on my Elf is to clear up the last quests on Hard or start pushing into Inferno, and I want to have multiplayer access to do that. First 2 stages were brutal. Hardly any skills available and it was a grind to get through the stages. Then I get enough points and levels to grab Shockwave, Bash, Slide Attack and it's a totally different game. The Fighter being a total badass and destroying everything that gets into range and then there's the block -> counter-attack from Bash. There's just something about just walking towards a boss, blocking every attack, dodging the ones that can't be blocked because you know the fight, then lay the smack down.
Oh and I got my delivery early... @Minerva_SC you can add me as a PS3 user as well.

Not sure if you figured out the answer to your first question, Kainy.
I believe it applies only to the item itself, not all items across your equipment. Otherwise I'd have something like 200% item degradation and my gear wouldn't be breaking as fast as it is in Infernal.
I tested this because I noticed the same item in my first bag would always break first in my chained dungeon runs. It was a belt with several hundred more durability points than another piece of equipment that had a 50% degradation enchant on it.

If true, this really changes my priorities. I've been trying my best to find decent items with % longer durability in the hopes that my badass bow would last me longer since my first gearset is deadly... if it only applies to the item then it's kind of shitty.
I normally tune some 3-4 bags for 'single use'.
Red Dragon; Arch-Demon; Killer Bunny all get a reserved gear bag with a 4th gear bag being my initial set, which makes the assumption I may end up fighting one of those fights. Those bags get the first pick in weapons and gear with the remaining 5 bags getting the overflow and hand-me-downs. They will only last me 1 stage and that's all I expect them to manage, mainly because I'm restricted to the charges of Salamander Oil and Toxic Extract. Not having a decent amount of either puts a massive restriction on my 'oh shit' handling and boss killing so gear durability becomes less of an issue. That may change if/when I do extended runs in the Chaos Labyrinth but for the most part, you'll see me using bags 5-6-7 (9 is a bit underpowered while 8 has only just hit parity with sets 4-7) which are designed for extended use only because I won't be using the oils and extracts as much.
Oh, anyone know off the top of their heads what the effectiveness of those health regen potions are compared to normal heal potions? I'm finding the instant heal potions are a bit overkill on my Elf so I was curious if the regen potions would give me more bang for the item slot.
