So, they made Mezo Drow part of the $200 pack, but are still waiting 60 days to release normal Drow for....exclusivity? I don't get it. They're still exclusive.
How many character slots will a free account get? Two? I thought I read in the FAQ or something that the $200 gets 5 slots, and the pack is supposed to give 3 additional, so I am assuming 2 is the base.
And regarding this, did they have the Cash Shop up and running in beta? If so, anyone get a cost for buying additional character slots?
That's not bad. Pending how much I am enjoying the game, dropping $5 for 2 more character slots would be worth it.
Is there a max.? Right now there are only 5 classes, but I expect that to change over time.
Also, I asked earlier but the conversation moved on. Do people plan to try and play on the same shard? Or does everyone just plan to do their own thing?
My gaming group decided to start on Beholder...but it should be moot once the shards are merged...if they get merged.
Definitely be careful on this line of thinking. Who knows how long that will take. It took Arenanet months and months to get their shards to where they were intended to be, and I figure this game will probably behave in the same way. Except that in this case you'll be locked out from your friends on the other shards.
Agreed...hence the "...if they get merged" part. I'd definitely go in assuming it'll be a while (or possibly not at all if the game catches fire) for the shards to merge, so choose wisely.
So yeah, I'll be on Beholder.
My gaming group is putting together a starting troupe of about 50 or so players. That decision is pretty much set in stone on my side, but given that Penny Arcade doesn't have an unofficial guild forming, and you're looking for possible people to group with, I'll at least be around on Beholder.
I think the reason Neverwinter's calling it's open beta a beta is because they don't have things like tons of classes and so on. Essentially the game lacks what they view as key content and as a result is in-complete.
Which would make it an "Alpha," not a "Beta."
An Alpha build is a build which is not feature-complete. A Beta build is one which is feature complete, but which has not been polished / balanced into final form.
It's really hard to define what beta and launch is because the definitions for each kinda meld now-a-days.
That's because the developers have been purposefully eliding over the difference between the two. Essentially, when this type of game goes into an "open beta" period, it's what anyone being really honest with themselves would call a launch.
That doesn't make it a bad game, or make the people who are doing it bad people, it's just slightly sleazy marketing, with the added benefit of:
It certainly also works as a great defense against people pointing out flaws, but people who take 'beta is beta' to the extreme of denying any complaints validity are idiots who shouldn't be listened too regardless.
Well, sure, but it would be nice if the companies weren't giving them ammo.
Also 'lol you disagree with me so you must be fanboi for game' is a goosey thing to say in any situation.
In other news, still trying to figure out what class I'll play. Don't want to play Cleric in case Bard is a healer when it's released. Wizard looks kinda neat but is probably a bit low on the priorities. Great weapon warrior doesn't interest me.
Anyone know if the crazy amount of clipping and distorted armor looks has been improved for dwarves? I played one for one of the weekends and it was just absurd with how bad the armor clipped and was shaped weird to fit their body.
I'll still probably go with dwarf rogue or fighter, but that shit was annoying.

Also my point was pretty much that I don't find the dis-honestly sleazy because now-a-days the words are thrown around a lot. I can understand people calling it dis-honest. I just don't care.
(Also on a tangental note you might care about. Mistborn has a Pen and Paper RPG).
My group that I will be launching with is planning on using Dragon.
So it might be like TERA, where after a bit I reroll or transfer to some place where people are actually playing.
If you expect that your group might dwindle, why not try to convince them to roll on Beholder instead? That way if some of them stop playing, you'll already be on a server with other people you may know.
I want to play Rogue, but will probably do Cleric or Guardian Fighter. Which I'll decide on the 30th.
Color me surprised. I expected Sword and Board. Ha.
Rogue is my true class, but in MMOs I tend to play Tank or Heals so I can get groups. In SPRPGs I am always Rogue.

Npt feature complete being an alpha is a line of thinking that doesn't work with MMOs. No MMO is ever feature complete as long as there is still a team working on content. If a MMO is feature complete enough and is playable, it is past alpha.
...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.

My group follows another, Tenacious chases Sinister Swarm around. So they will roll where the other friends are.
It is a toss up at this point. PA has a pretty diverse group, some even come with attention spans.

Blasphemy!
I understand. Was just a suggestion. If they aren't sold on a server but just picked a name, trying to convince them to come to Beholder just means a larger group for you to play with.
I won't really feel like I can get invested though until a class I really want to play get's released.

I am interested in seeing what the warlock will be like, but will probably play the rogue at launch. Or control wizard, fun blowing things up, but road kill when it gets overwhelmed.
Yeah, I feel that this game is probably going to be one I want to play a year down the line after fucking around with it for a week. You know, when shifters/bards/whatever I feel is cool gets added.
Which is probably great news for their continued employment.
One day I have hopes my warlord will bash heads and buff friends. Until then I'm just going to play it casually and maybe try my hand at building some content.

What I'm curious about is if the game will be robust enough that you can have the 'non healer' leaders such as Bard and Warlord as your healer equivelant while still keeping them true to their table top role.
There really isn't a healer role I think. The cleric's heals seemed more like maintenance rather than "heal-bot" potions just heal for a lot and are on short cooldowns.
And from what I read about the changes to GWF in the last closed beta, they really kind of gutted the class. Kind of large dps reductions across all traits.

I know the latter, really bummed me out, as I came out of that 3rd beta thinking the GWF would be awesome once they tweaked the traits up a bit. I totally wasn't expecting a tweak down for pretty much every damage increasing trait they had.
To be fair, a lot of traits got nerfed for a lot of classes from BWE3 to BWE4. I know the control wizard had a lot of their +damage and +AP building traits reduced, and the rogue took some hits, too. I think all in all, they felt player damage was a little high across the board.

On the cleric, even with the healing beam going? I was using the aoe heal and the target damage/heal bit most of the time and then switching to heal ray when big damage was happening.
Did they reduce the damage? Or was it having the base skills without the points in them did less than previously?

I recieved and email saying I can start playing thursday. I see no reason not to just roll on Beholder, unless we did have a plan.

Why not create two separate characters? One of group play, and one you can just have fun with when you're soloing.
