Quick question about moving and renting a uhaul or whatever truck.

How do I get there and get the truck if I'm the only one with a license? I mean I could leave my car there I guess but I'd rather not. Is there any truck companies that will deliver the truck to me and then pick it up when I'm done?

Do you have any friends or family members in the area who could just drop you off?

Nope, the only friend who was available does not have their license. Family is all at least 2 hours away, and it would not be feasible to get them to do it.

What about PODS? They dump a storage crate off at your house, then pick it up when you've got it loaded. Then they either store it or move it to your new place and drop it off for you to unload.

It's probably more expensive then renting a truck, but it might be worth looking into.

You can leave your car there, I've done it before, not a huge deal if it won't be overnight.

If you ask nicely, the guy running the place might even come pick you up.

You could rent a car tower thingy as well, and just tow your car back to your place.

Ah the old apartment expressly forbade PODS or similar services.

But if bob is right I'll just leave my car there when I go rent. Sounds like a job for a phone call! Keep them coming just in case.

New and old apartment are only like 1/2 mile apart. Probably not worth it.

Half a mile? That distance you should be able to walk fairly easily.

Well not carrying furniture. But the nearest uhaul place is about 10 miles. So therein lies the problem.

Also short of a cab there's no other way to get there. It's 10 miles by highway. Fuuuuck upstate NY.

Ring the company, it's their job to be accessible, so they will explain the options

Will do. This has been the most painful moving experience by far jesus. It really sucks to live in a car oriented area with no access to people with lots of cars or at least the ability to drive besides yourself.

Just because there's some confusion that I am a giant stupid head or am super unreasonable that I can't get someone with a driver's license to help out.

All my friends that do have a license are working or just not reachable/unavailable (maybe they're on vacation who knows).

So if you think I'm a giant stupid head or I'm being stupid and this is a weird thread, there it is.

Coming from someone who just moved a full 2 bedroom apartment over 800 miles away- don't get a UHaul. Go with Budget or Penske instead. UHaul hasn't updated their vehicles in 20 years, yet still charge the same rates as other moving companies. We used Penske, had absolutely 0 issues and I got to drive a heavy ass truck with leather seats, xm radio and heavy duty AC. Also, you can negotiate the price of your moving truck/compartment down quite a bit if you just talk to the sales people on the phone - we saved ~30% and got a free dolly just by asking.

Budget looks like its sold out, I'm probably going to have to stick to uhaul (penske is $100 vs $50 for uhaul).

I'll see if I can't get someone with penske though, the uhaul place hasn't called me back yet.

UHaul is $50, but they try to nickel and dime you, so make sure you know their policies.

He's moving 1/2 a mile. I don't think the amenities really matter that much.

Yeah, I'm getting a uhaul too, they're charging me $20 for a van or truck compared to $60 from Budget.

I actually had this exact same question, hopefully they'll be cool with me leaving the car there for a little bit.

Yeah I've used uhaul before I know all about their tricks. Like trying to get me to pay for a dolly because it was never secured after the last person used it.

There is a local storage place around here that has their own trucks so I'm going to try those too!
