Low-profile touchscreens

So I'm looking for a cheap, low profile touchscreen in the tablet PC size range (so I guess, 10 - 14" max?). I don't need the actual processor side of things, since it's for a stationary application, but basically I'm working on a concept where I'd like to have thin web-client access while I'm working in a Laminar flow cupboard.

The environment isn't hostile or dangerous, but it's not practical to fit a keyboard/mouse in or around it.

Has anyone around here dealt with these types of requirements? The main issue - I think - is depth, and cost, since it's likely I have to finance the prototype myself.

What about a touch screen kit? Back when the Asus EEE came out there was a boom in kits that used overlays to add touch screen support. They dim the screen slightly, but you should be able to get one in whatever size you want to use with an existing monitor. Most resistive touchscreen monitors are overpriced for the pos market and capacitive monitors cost more than an iPad from what I've seen.
